If you look at Mindy Kaling's background: rich family, privledged background, ivy league education, no part-time jobs, handed her only jobs in Hollywood out of uni. You realise she has a lot more in common with her version of Freddy than Velma.

I love it how this "modern and more mature" reboot is far more juvenile than the cartoon with a talking dog.

Yep. I love subversive female representation in media. Daria, Jessica Jones, and Game of Thrones are just a few examples of shows that have done this well. The women in these shows are nuanced, flawed, and complex. They're human. There are also shows that implement diverse casting with good results. In my mind, race-switching one Targaryen branch in House of the Dragon makes sense. In their vast intercontinental empire, Targaryen intermarriage with non-White rulers would be perfectly feasible. Yes, it's a change from the book, but it doesn't detract from the story. Velma is the complete opposite. It's horribly written, exploitative troll-bait. It's the worst of cynical tokenistic woke-ism that shits all over good representation.

What’s really crazy, is that the Mystery Inc gang knockoffs in Velma get away Scott free at the end of season 1. When half of them should be in jail, and the other half, in therapy, as they’d be in a worse spot than when they’d started. For instance, Fred should have had a meltdown and gone insane by what he’d experienced in the last week because of Velma. He was seen as a disappointment by his dad, and watched his mother die a gruesome death.
How to make scooby doo remake good: Shaggy: a stoner who thinks his pet dog can talk, but it's not. At the end, he stops being a stoner, bought a puppy names scrappy and found a reason in life. Scooby: on everyone's pov, it's a normal dog that barks and always happy. In truth, he is shaggy's coping mechanism. He is, ironically the heart of the group using his adorable qualities. Fred: a brave, well intentioned dude, but his friends always jump in to help due to his lack of knowledge regarding social norms (he grew up as a privledged white family). Daphne: thinks she's know everything, but humbled and a graceful loser if proven wrong (either shaggy told her the bleak reality, fred told he to never give up and find other way to solution, or velma points out her fallacy). She's just lacking attention in her childhood and was driven to prove herself. Then she learned the value of friendship and loyalty. Velma: an actual knowledgeable character, but hides her lack of sex appeal through harmless sass and sarcasm. Later she learned that life is not just about getting men, but to be the best person than before.

Literally me too. I watched Scooby Doo when I was younger and I loved those shows, but I had other shows that I loved more. But seeing these characters change so drastically (talking about character assassination, not their appearance) just disappoints and offends me man. It’s honestly sad and pathetic.
I am
Probably because it is insulting everyone who isn’t Mindy Kaling
Gotta love fanfic writers having jobs writing stories for beloved IP's and having none of the love for any of it. Sometimes feels like every 'modern' movie/tv series is just a cringey fanfic writer's self-insert, angry at the world because they are so creatively bankrupt.
Velma is so hated, it's impossible to find any positive reviews of the show
They're not writers, they're activists with an axe to grind.
Exactly
First Ariel and now Scooby Doo. The wokeness is destroying the things that made our childhoods special.
@@ricky7973 they should just leave it alone is it not to much to ask. If the actually can't do it why bother cuz end result only make they own life worse time 100.
I think the activists are the ones paying the writers, who need food and shelter. And they get the money from the higher-ups in order to promote "the message".
Only one axe to grind? Methinks they probably have several judging from the amount of garbage they keep pumping out
Velma is a show for Mindy Kaling, by Mindy Kaling.
I figured it was for 50 year old stoners who still watch the original Scooby Doo. Edit: And plenty of people in the comments correct me. I stand corrected.
@@bunnywithakeyboard7628 L take
100% True based on the trailer.
Yes a self insert by one of the most sheltered people ever. So she can get back at the white patriarchy that “held her back”.
@@bunnywithakeyboard7628 A lot of people watched the original Scooby Doo, and the 90s era Scooby, and the early Scooby Doo movies, and just about all of them hate Velma.
Mindy K. Is usually in love with rich white men. Why would she be so mean in this project???? Shaggy is black and he’s is stupidly in love with a lesbian??? How dumb is the new shaggy????
You have wonderful description of the dumpster fire known as Velma I don't think anyone could have put it better than you Great job can't wait for your next review .
The real Velma was never mean or anything. She was always happy to help her friends and to also receive their help when needed. No one was mean to anyone in that cartoon because the very point was that it was a lesson about teamwork and the value of using everyone strengths to overcome the mysteries. The only thing the new serie does is that It gives us a good glimpse of how the authors are thinking. Edit : English isn't my language.
Yeah. Why is she black now?
She is also heterosexual and white
@@FFGG22E what does that have to do with anything
@@MiyuwiTV Changing a character for no real reason for diversity points
They occassionally had their falling outs or quarrels but they always quickly fixed them and it was never to the ludicrous extend like in this show.
Sad thing is, Velma probably represents these writers' lives.
Sad thing is those writers might think it’s ok to be that douchy/annoying and that they are on the right side.
They self inserted themselves like fanfic writers? Makes it even sadder they got the job then.
Good
Same goes for She-Hulk. The entire show is their therapy session to work out their personal issues.
These woke shows are all self inserts
It’s really disappointing to see that the show which made the childhood of people from the 70’s to the late 2015’s took such a dark, misleading and a non-required 360 degree turn.
If Hollywood green lights trash like this, they’ll approve just about anything.
I love how they chose to keep the dog out, because they knew Scooby would out shine Velma's one dimensional character. 😂
I heard they were not allowed use him at all, in an adult comedy. If only they had protected the other characters that well.
It’s like the Captain Marvel interviewers not being allowed to ask about the cat!
@completevideohere why don't you just say it's a pizza advertisement you human bot?
You can tell how good a person is by how much they care about animals (it's true, look it up)
Wait they dont even have the dog??? Its scoobny doo. What the fuck are they gonna do without the DOG bruh
The most terrifying part is someone probably enjoyed this show.
Yeah, the biden administration.
It's mandatory viewing for all new ANTIFA, BLM and LGBT cult members
It's not that bad really. It's not like the show makes Velma look cool for being like that. In the second episode they literally show Velma's mom leaving the family because she hates Velma so much lol.
I honestly don't think so, even my uber woke friends HATE it
i like this show, its create fiasco, chaos and turmoil.... the amount of meme and hate its generated is unsourmountable. yeah, this shitshow is definitely fun to watch...... BUUURRRRNN
The fact that they tried to reimagine a popular old show, banking entirely on its fans, then went waaaay out of their way to piss specifically them off with highly pointed attacks, says all you need to know tbh.
Scooby-Doo works perfectly as a children's cartoon. Mindy Kaling said they cut Scooby-Doo out because that was what made it a children's cartoon. I have to say to Kaling, "Why did you make an adult Scooby-Doo cartoon in the first place?" I believed it also shows in the final product that Charlie Grandy and Mindy Kaling wanted to make an adult cartoon first and a Scooby-Doo show second with the show second. I also know that there are plenty of adult parodies of Scooby-Doo out there.
You can tell Velma is a self insert of a kid who got bullied at school and is working through therapy via the show
I'd say more like Prince Harry given so much but still the victim with a massive and to grind. I doubt the maker Mindy is it ever wanted in her life and many other people involved and this is their interpretation of those who do.
I doubt Mindy was ever bullied that badly. Did she have a blonde rich boy in her high school making salutes and unable to cut his own food? I think she's just a nasty entitled piece of work, surrounded by an industry that loves to ruin things. I have no sympathy for her or her trash products.
I hereby propose we refer to this sort of IP sabotage as "Spitewashing" 😂😂😂
Narcissism is the key trait.
The creator is a very bitter old woman who never got as far as she wanted and now is lashing out with this garbage, I’m sure some of the HBO folks buckled because she used all the terms against them, still. For a company who has made actual works of art they should have known better. Morons.
The fact that almost everyone is trashing this show gives me a glimmer of hope for humanity.
its just that things are changing. And people start to speak their own minds after years of being told to stfu ( racist , sexist etc etc) It was about time tbh
Wait till feminists force everyone to watch it
"Almost" Show me one person who likes it
@@TheBlueArmageddon idk if tweetards count as human beings, but they are living beings who like this stuff, but hey, they don't have human rights so idk
I'm going to destroy that glimmer, it appears it's a ratings hit for HBO Max so probably expect a season 2.
Velma is part of the "I can't believe it's not intentional" genre. A work that is so bad that it looks like the writers are intentionally trying to make a bad show for whatever reason, but it's not; the writers are just bad at their job
Even if it wasn’t based on Scooby Doo, it’d still be shit. The characters are beyond annoying, the plot makes no sense, the episodes go nowhere and there’s no over arching theme or point to any of the plot. Each plot gets picked up and completely abandoned even within each episode. It is literally the cartoon version of The Room, but without the Tommy Wiseau hilarity.
Mindy changed Velma into a self insert. All of the audience reviews talk about how Velma is unlikable. That’s funny.
@Anyway, Who Cares? Critical drinker doesn’t need to build his profile on KZhead though? He’s pretty successful for a review channel
@@sickemrex287 🤡
There's not a whole lot in this world that could be considered more insulting than to take a beloved legacy character going back decades and turning them into a shameless self-insert. That takes signing one's name on someone else's artwork to a whole new level.
@Anyway, Who Cares? you should do a review of the show espousing its virtues. maybe people just need to see a review like that to understand what a future classic it will become.
@@AK-Drakoin the Drinker is also an accomplished writer so he knows what’s he’s talking about when it comes to stories.
The old cast always felt familial and close because they didn't TRY to force a chemistry. It just popped off.
That's because the writers of the OG series were actually good and cared about good characterization. Something too many modern 'writers' don't know how to do.
Even in the movies, when everyone went their separate ways, and eventually met up, they act like they haven't missed a day in each other's company. Kaling really nuetered her series right off the bat.
Yeah, that's something I realized while watching this review: I never questioned why these characters were together, even though their differing backgrounds invites scrutiny. I did question Scrappy-Doo, however.
Imagine: kzhead.info/sun/qLCxcr2yfJybjXk/bejne.html
Seriously, how can anyone still be friends with each other in this version of the story? It seems like they all hate each other, I definitelly would not want any of these clowns by my side.
The show is ultimate and complete garbage. Unwatchable.
I love how woke artists always try to give black characters white features 😂
Got to give Mindy Kaling credit for one thing: She'll single-handedly be responsible for the Scrappy-Doo episodes no longer being considered the low-point of the Scooby-Doo franchise. Unless "Velma" is disinherited from the franchise (which it already is for me.)
Scrappy-doo is king! How dare you!!
I used to like the ones with Scrappy-Doo when i was a kid
@@sleepyrasta14820 puppy power 👊
I never understood why people hated Scrappy so much, he’s adorable, annoying at times, but he’s a baby, so what are you gonna do.
I'd chalk that up to an innocent mistake. At least Scrappy *could* be entertaining. Velma is just mean spirited bile.
As a kid (white male) I was always looking up to Velma, because she helped me realize while growing up that the looks and muscles aren't everything and one can also achieve much thanks to brains. And now look how they've massacred my... girl.
My girl! Look how they've massacred my girl! *sobs*
Mindy Kaling should be happy she won't wake up with a horse head in her bed.....
I ain't white but Velma helped me start liking girls who aren't just good looking Ironic because now I feel like she's ugly inside
@@dizzyheads I really don't feel like the "the character has to match my race in order to empathize" is a good argument for race swapping old IPs. I always love *good* heroes that have to struggle, no matter their colour. The hero's journey is a transcendent literary device through time and medium, colour and creed.
@@Dak1549 I don't think that is why they said they aren't white, pretty sure they are just throwing their support for the OP since there is this common thing of people having their opinions invalidated online with irrational accusations of "oh well you're probably a white male so your opinions don't matter and/or are all wrong/bad/skewed by your privilege".
The Hollywood industry blaming you for their trash has brought me to your channel, and my agreeing with you reviews of shows I saw before I had seen your reviews called me to subscribe. Please take my subscription and wield it wisely!

We're at the crazy time in history where porn parodies have better plot and acting, than most modern Hollywood movies and shows.

As an aspiring writer, I usually get quite anxious on whether or not my work would be good enough. Then I learned a show like this was greenlit. Now idk whether to feel relieved or insulted that this is the competition
You want to produce your show in 2023? As long as you reach the « anti white scenes » quota you’re good!
Same here. Whenever I see these bombs and look at my writing, it inspires me to do better so not to write trash like these people have done.
Now you won't know if your work is good and people recognized it or if it's shite and the people who approved it are just braindead xD.

Alright. Right now, as of April 24th 2023, I am going to mark this video as proof that Velma, the Absolute worst and most Gobblesmackingly bad show, to be The worst ever made.
What I'm seeing is someone who is telling us "I cannot create anything on my own, so I will take something of yours, make it mine, then insult you whether or not you dislike this fact." What I really find reprehensible is when people act as if there are only two races of people.

Well, the show was originally written as something not even related to Scooby Doo in the first place. The studio basically forced the show's creators to add the Scooby Doo stuff to it.
