In This Lesson:
• You can use photo editing software to alter images to make them look more visually pleasing and professional.
Photo editing software
Adobe Photoshop
▌Graphic designers, photographers and other creative professionals use expensive software such as Adobe Photoshop
GIMP (GNU)
▌However, you can use similar tools for free with GNU Image Manipulation Program (or GIMP).
▌GIMP is an open source software that can be used on different operating systems to change images in any way that your imagination wants!
▌The GIMP program is another creation tool that you can use for presentations.
The advantages of using GIMP program:
Retouching
• This enhances the photo to make it look more beautiful. You can correct flaws in the photo.
Example:
• We can make the following:
- If someone has red eyes from camera glare, you can change them to the original color.
- You can make their skin look smoother.
- You can change the color of their jacket.
- You can change the background.
- You can make the sky seem brighter if the photo was taken on a cloudy day.
Blending
This combines two images to make them look like one .
Example
• This is useful when you present an idea for something that doesn't exist yet or show what something might look like.
Special effects
• You can use different filters to add special effects to an image.
Example
• You can make it look like something is moving in the photo with motion blur, or
make it look very old with the artistic filter gallery.
The effects of GIMP program
• GIMP is an efficient and light program, so it doesn't take up a lot of space on your hard drive.
• It's a widely used program, and there are online resources available to help you learn how to use it.
• Although it has a large number of tools, you can customize the interface to show only the tools that you need.
• You can download the GIMP software. It is open source and there are many websites that allow you to use GIMP to edit photos online.
• GIMP supports different file formats, and you can convert the image to different formats, such as PDF, gif or a jpeg.
To create an image for a presentation
1. Combine two photos from free image bank online and save them to your computer.
2. Open GIMP, select the first image as the background and the second image as layers.
3. Add layer Mask to hide pixel and adjust settings.
4. Paint the image with black and white until blended.
5. Save the image then export it as JPEG image.
