The Niva was perfect - it's still an amazing 4x4, the Riva was a low tech car with poor quality control, so it has less to recommend it.

The lada wasn't a bad car to drive! As we know it's based, underneath, on the fiat 124 witch means that even though there were a lot of tiny mechanical changes to the lada it still handled and went quite well! The skinny tyres and rear wheel drive made it perfect for Kimi to learn car control in the slippery roads of Finland and gave him some of the skill he undoubtedly used to win all those races over the years!

I happen to like those lada's (and their fiat predecessors) And that croma from MS, is that the van the right one or should it be the older one of the trio fiat croma/alfa 164/saab 9000.
Rover Mini Metro was epic fun. Drive to Wales from London the long way once and it's still one of my memorable drives. In fact my current car is inspired by that drive. Light, small hatchback, that weighs 950 kilos with agile handling. Guess you cant tell what it is? Its 67 horsepower and a ton of fun
1971 Vauxhall Viva 1600 with extra wide tyres (brand new ex a Vauxhall 2.3 VX that my dad had written off sitting at traffic lights when a car skidded on ice and hit him). My dad did a deal with the scrap yard to let me swap them after the insurance indpection. Rubbed when I put full lock on but ideal to keep an 18year old on the road. It had a cassette player with auto change at end of tape. My mum borrowed it and could not figure out how to stop it so had to listen to Queen's A Night at the Opera for a week. Took her two days to find the volume control. Who would have guesses it was a better ride that Nigel Mancells.

at least that's better than most of the cars on this list, except for the Chevy Bel Air, Mini Cooper, Renault Sport Clio, Audi RS6, and probably the Fiat Croma.

That is the wrong Fiat Chroma. Schumacher had an earlier model.

Charles Leclerc's first car is a 1969 Fiat 500. Apparently he still has it. I asked him about it in a Facebook live Q&A several years back, before he became famous.

This seems very reasonable considering how the concept of cars initially started. Ones that have a golden balance over chassis weight.
Small correction to Kimis case. There was never sold or imported a Lada model named Riva to Finland or Europe. Riva was an UK model solely. And what comes to Kimis Lada, no he did not buy it. He got it free from his moms friend because it had a broken engine. But Kimis dad (RIP Matti) who was a "carwow" man himself got a working engine for Kimis Lada. The model was a Lada/Vaz 1200 L. So this is cleared now😃!

Ayrton Senna's first car was not that jeep, but a Ford Corcel II (somewhat similar to Ford Cortina mk.4) with 90 horsepower, which was soon replaced by its wagon version of the same car as it was considered more spacious to carry your kart.

6:49 Not of my friends have cars that are less than 100 hp.... Although I know a few people with a Honda Fit (Jazz).... _Finding_ a car with 60hp sounds like a challenge to me. My grandparents drive a Toyota Camry 4 cylinder, and a GMC Sierra with the 5.3 V8.
If you don;t know this Lada (or Series 5 ) had the shortest gear ratio. I passed my driving license on one of those .
My dad had a fiat autobianchi for his first car and it blew up when he went on a railroad not just the tires
max getting a clio makes sense as redbull were using reno power units at the time i believe and they would have brokered a deal of some sort
Hi Mat, I believe you have the Schumi's Croma wrong. In the video you used the much newer model of Fiat Croma. However, there was earlier model before - much more nicer and at the time rather modern car (with all-digital dash).

I'm sure Max got his Clio RS as a company car from Renault who were Toro Rosso and Red Bull's engine supplier back then. If I'm not wrong even Lando Norris had Megane RS in his drive last year when McLaren ran Renault engines.

I had the distinct displeasure of driving a lada in the early 90s. No power steering (parking the thing was a workout), rock hard suspension, loud, slow and butt ugly. It was however very good in the snow unsurprisingly.

A Lada is perfect for Finnish gravel roads and for Finnish winters, unless you get a Volvo 240 or an old E class MB. 😂
Saab 900 was Finns favourite back in early 90's. Front wheel driven compared to back wheel driven Volvo and Mercs from same time. Now it doesnt matter anymore since there are sadly no snowy winters anymore. Gravel roads have turned into motorways and people drives stupid big SUV:s or Teslas.
@@madsbuhris Was same in Sweden to be honest. back then, it was either Saab, Volvo, BMW or MB. Since 2002 I'm living in Scotland and 90% are either Ford Focus, fiesta or massive SUVs nobody can drive as they think they own the road, cut corners and can't park properly. Also 1cm of snow and the very SUVs owners get stuck and everything goes to stand still. 🤷🏼♂️
