  • I just bought an old 12’ Sears fishing boat. This is exactly what I needed to watch. Perfect timing. Thank you! 🙏🏻

  • I've owned several aluminum boats in my lifetime and I even camouflaged a few that I hunted out of. I never repainted any of the others, because the factory paint was still in good condition. My last boat, a 14 foot Proline V-bottom, has no paint at all. This is the way it came from the factory and since I no longer hunt, I like it. When I first bought it (used) I replaced the wooden seat tops and they now have side by side pine 2X10's left natural and painted with clear a spar urethane. I just buffed the aluminum a little to make it shine and it looks great. After looking at many boats since then, I've come to realize that I'm the only person on my lake that has an unpainted aluminum boat!

  • Good video! I already did my old Lund, but I followed the same basic process as you showed. I like the Krylon and Rustoleum Farm and Implement paints; very affordable, easily available, and very durable. For small aluminum boats, a decent looking paint job doesn't require paint that costs $120 per gallon.

  • I'd have used a pressure washer before the stripper and to remove the stripper after it did it's work. Nice video!

  • This is pretty much the same method I used on my boat. Mine is a 16' and I painted the inside a matte gray and the outside a semi-gloss red. I also chose to leave the bottom unpainted as that was where the most wear would be. It's been good to go with no scratches since 2021.

  • Orange strip is great stuff for an Aluminum boat. Gluvit or Total Boat aluminum epoxy will seal up the bottom seams and rivets. Just in case. Primer, paint, done. Never, ever, ever use Flex-seal on your boat.

  • If you sand the bottom to bare alluminum dont you need to protect it with something? Im working on a similar project and was hesitant to work on the hull .

    @ThePlantGuy@ThePlantGuyАй бұрын
    • There are coatings you can apply to delay oxidation. Oxidation will definitely dull the shine so if that is important to you then you should coat it. However, I find it's less expensive on small boats to just take a fine grit sand paper to it ever year or two to restore the shine. But if you don't, oxidation won't reduce the integrity of the hulls strength and it still looks pretty good after many years. Thanks for watching!

  • Would Rhino Liner work on the inside of the boat? Might get good traction for getting in and out.

    • My friend bought a boat with that stuff sprayed inside the boat whoever sprayed it did not prep the surface correctly and it started to peel in areas something to think about

  • Just wondering if perhaps I should consider getting a can of Gluvit for the rivets and seams. Yes it will definitely increase the cost of the project as Gluvit is not cheap. 😏

    @srsorbo@srsorbo22 күн бұрын
    • Definitely worth considering since rivets on an old boat often leak.

    • I've used it on my old starcraft that I refurbished...bone dry in the boat, and that's with some rivets replaced with stainless bolts and nylon washers... its runny stuff, but works good...I applied to all the seams too for extra leak protection, inside and out.

  • Why not just hit the boat with a pressure washer after the gel eroded the paint?

    @MrTrever86@MrTrever86Ай бұрын
    • Honest question. Not sure it would be enough, but in think it would eliminate a lot of the manual scraping

      @MrTrever86@MrTrever86Ай бұрын
    • I think that could work. But the amount of paint material that comes off a boat is more than you might think. I wanted to contain it and throw it in the garbage. if you have an area you don't mind making a big mess, go for it. It would save some time for sure. I also don't have a pressure washer, hence the scraping. Thanks for watching!
