So much TRAGEDY at this SECLUDED Cove in Cornwall
We tell the story of the ships wrecked in a secluded cove in Cornwall, where a cluster of rocks, barely visible above the water have claimed several ships over the centuries. These deadly rocks are called the Manacles.
Those that died were buried in mass graves in the nearby churchyard of St Keverne. At the beginning of this video we explore the churchyard to identify the graves of the poor people that lost their lives in these tragedies.
In the second part of this video we walk from St Keverne to the Manacles to see the ferocious but fascinating cluster of rocks for ourselves. What will we discover along the way - a beautiful secluded cove!

We are Sarah and Andrew and we film our walks around Cornwall and publish on KZhead, usually weekly. Sometimes we stay in accommodation in Cornwall and upload our vlog. Sarah is fascinated by sea glass and likes to collect it so there may be the occasional sea glass video too. The channel is a hobby and we both have normal day jobs!

Do we do meet ups?
We regularly receive requests to meet up from viewers and subscribers, but unfortunately we do not have availability to be able to do this.
The channel is a very time consuming hobby, fitted around our employment and family commitments. Setting aside time for meet ups, means that we are not able to film and edit our weekly videos that you love to watch.
If you happen to bump into us while out and about, we will be more than happy to have a quick chat!

We love May, June for flora and fauna, July and September for spectacular scenery.

Really enjoyed watching this..we used to go to Godrevy to get winkles every Good Friday..with mum & dad..use to eat them with a pin & a saucer of vinegar on the doorsteps at home in porthoustock..way back in the late 40s early 50s..very happy days..thanks so much for making it possible to get down there again..xxxx

Hello Sarah and Andrew! So lovely to see you again out and enjoying the beauty of Cornwall 🤩 We walked past this area last year, and I agree that in a strange way, this not-so-ancient industrial ruins also have their own beauty like the old mining engines have. We were there probably at a lower tide, and the Manacles were visible as a rugged predator's jaw with molars in a long row. I can hardly imagine the horrors of all those people drowning. And funny remark about The Quarrymen and rock music. I am sure you know it, but I just have to say that The Quarrymen was the original name of the Beatles 🎶🎸🎤 And they played indeed rock music 😃 Thank you for this beautiful and serene video and all my best to you and your family 🥰 Torunn.
I hope you find the following about Dean Quarry of interest. The rock that was quarried is of a very hard type. In the early part of WWII German aircraft were attacking the coasters (small merchant ships) with their guns and killing/wounding the crews. What was required was a cheap and lightweight form of protection which could be fitted to the superstructure of the merchant ships. Knowing that the Dean Quarry rock was very hard and used for road surfacing, the idea of using hard bitumen sheets containing small pieces of the rock was developed. It was known as "Rock Armour" and saved hundreds of seamen's lives.

My Ching ancestors were all from St Keverne in the 1700s-1842…..That’s why I am finding all of your adventures so interesting as well as your research from the books that you have been reading on the area. The Ching ancestors migrated in sailing ships and came to live here in Nelson, New Zealand.

Yay! Beat you to it, for a change. Friday 11-August-2023, Wife and I and our 2 spaniels parked at Coverack. Walked the coast path to Porthoustock, Up the valley to St_Keverne. Then back to the coast path and back to Coverack.( with a quick diversion for a Roskillys ice Cream) We remember that path with the odd hand rail on the steep track. We didn't see many people either, though Coverack and Roskillys were packed. BTW our best wishes to your mum. Hope she recovers ok.

I don't know if you have been further along the coast there to Porthkerris? It is the well known divers cove where diving clubs go to explore the deep waters there. If you drive down past the car park and turn left and either drive or walk you come to some strange old industrial buildings and an old MOD building. We went a few years ago and there was a building that had windows facing the sea and you could see inside and there were large heat lamps radiating heat onto trays with piles of something on them. We had no idea what was going on and there was nobody around to ask. We later found out that this is where the Cornish Sea Salt company manufacture their product. We went back this year for a look and all the windows had mirror glass installed so you could not look in. I think they may be afraid of industrial espionage. A fascinating place to explore.

Classic CWT adventure, full of surprises, and wonderful sights & sounds ~ thank you! It just shows that in Cornwall, if you're prepared to put the effort into going off the beaten track, you can find blissful reviving solitude (Portheras Cove did it for me a few years back). I had no idea that The Manacles was so treacherous (reckless sea captains clearly didn't help). Just love a post-industrial landscape like that jetty and its buildings...so atmospheric! Glad you both had this refreshing break, and all love to your Mum, Dad and the whole family x

Even the history of the old quarry and the jetty which I notice the sea is slowly reclaiming back or is it just me. Hope your Mum and Dad gets well soon. Wonderful video, I live on the peninsula, but have never ventured farther than Coverack or St Keverne. Curious to learn more about the Manacles I went on Google. Another You Tube video popped up by a chap called Gavin Parsons, on a sunny day during a low spring tide, he filmed them from the air, the sea is crystal clear and you can see the rocks on the surface, but also where they spread out underneath, hiding their true menace. It is well worth a watch. Best wishes to your mum, I hope she recovers well.

Hello Sarah and Andrew. So sorry to hear of your Mum's heath issues Sarah and best wishes for better times ahead. Love this part of the world and have stayed in Coverack a few times. The tales of shipwrecks are always harrowing and not helped with scoundrels as sea captains. The walk along the coast to Lowland Point and beyond is always done with very few people, even in the holiday time we are obliged to go in. Back from Dean quarry and up the path next to it, is of course a short way to Roskilly's and a morning walk can be rewarded with a nice lunch there and then back through the farmland to Coverack.

saw your video last night on my Roku. Those track-like things underneath the cement tipple were conveyor belt rollers. The 'tracks' are the frames and you can see the 3 rollers to keep the belt in a U shape to keep everything contained. Bulk conveyor belts rode on them. the belts themselves are long gone. Reference 24 mins 2 seconds.

That walk down ‘the fairy glade’ from St K is amazing. We discovered it last year and its truly magical. We took the long way coming out in Porthoustock.

I am fairly sure that along the many rocky shores of Cornwall (and other shores around Britain, but Cornwall"s smugglers history is probably the most infamous) has borne witness to several wrecks. Some due to poor seamanship, some due to unforeseen reefs and sand bars. Some due to lack of lighthouses, and of course, some deliberately drawn onto rocks and into shallows by smugglers who misled old-time sailors by lighting supposed safe sailing routes, thereby luring ships away from safe passage, in order to rob them of their valuable cargoes, often leaving wrecked crewmen and / or passengers to drown in the breakers. (unverified source: novels etc from the 19th and 20th centuries) 😮,😣😯
Hello Sarah and Andrew, I am very sorry that your mum is in such a bad way:(. I wish her, and your family all the best and hope that your mum gets better soon. I know how difficult it is when you are helping to care for her and how much of burden it is. Take your rest breaks when you need to, and enjoy the sea and the nature, and put the videos on hold for once. I think all of your viewers will understand if you don't have a video every week and you need time for yourself. Done this walk several times various different ways Godrevy Cove gem👌We find the Lizard area easy to get around than the rest of Cornwall this time of year We are lucky to live here 🏖️I have fished of The Manacles boat and kayak it’s eerily spooky 😱Great video guys wish you all best 🥰
Have you been to Tregoning Hill,Ashton near Helston to the site of the first china clay mine in 1745? Still the remnants of it with a public footpath up to it with great 360 degree views.
