  • Fair warning for those who want to replicate some of these aesthetics- cleaning products and some food items are often sold in opaque or dark packaging because sunlight can breakdown some of the useful compounds. Use like for like- dark or opaque containers unless it already comes in a clear container.

      @andie9179@andie9179 Жыл бұрын
    • @@andie9179 sometimes they’re hard to come by, but i know some grocery stores that have smaller bulk sections where they just sell dry beans, grains, coffee, and other snacks in bulk where i live. even if it’s just food that you bring your own containers to fill up, it really makes a difference in waste. I live in California so I have access to places such as Sprouts, Whole Foods, Smart and Final, etc. But you can always just search up “bulk bin stores near me”. If you have the benefit of being able to access stores such as these or other bulk stores, you can start by weighing the container you need to fill and label it with that weight so you can subtract that amount from the cost when you fill it up. if you don’t, you can make smaller changes outside of your home. like when buying groceries, bring your own bags to separate items or don’t bag your fruit and vegetables at all, and avoid buying pre-bagged items. and bringing your own bags to load at the end of trip really helps. Try getting items packaged with paper, aluminum, or glass (easy to recycle). and although it can be tedious, you can try to find products sourced more locally, because even if it’s packaged in plastic, it took a lot less waste to get to the store. farmer’s markets are also really helpful! i understand not everyone is lucky enough to have access to bulk stores, especially bulk stores that sell detergent or other cleaning and household products. one small thing i’ve done lately to try and reduce my footprint is just simply not grabbing a bag to put fruit or veggies in. i just grab them from the pile, as many as i need, and put them in my cart as they are. and i reuse plastic bags for trash cans as well as paper bags, or sometimes i’ll just take them back to the store and use them again.

Things going from a perfectly good box to a clear, glass container for no other reason than it looks nice. But realistically, this actually takes more time and energy than it needs to for the sake of pretty things. In all honesty, im surprised that products don't just come in a glass container with a removable cardboard insert for a label in the store, so people don't have to spend hours to reinsert items from one container to another. Like the one lady where the soda labels all had to face the same way. It's an orange fanta can, love, are you afraid that you will forget what pop you got in the fridge? XD

    @Peppermint-Snaps@Peppermint-Snaps2 жыл бұрын
    • No, some of it can be for mental reasons. I know this kind of stuff makes me actually want to clean, knowing I can make things all pretty. And it reduces boxy big clutter, which drives me crazy. And I always make sure the soda labels are facing the same direction. It’s irrational but it makes me feel nice. It’s really all about what the person wants in their house. Not really what other people see as beneficial. If they want it in their house they can do it :)

  • This gave me a few organizing ideas but the sloppiness to rush the presentation reeked of desperation. Also, there were many times the full quantity didn't fit in the container the person was using and so now they have two things filled with the same item taking up space (and not talking about where the container is meant to intentionally hold a small amount either). I understand taller glasses for liquids to take up less space but if the full amount doesn't fit, that's a failed objective

It helps me use everything and not waste anything at all. Plus clear plastic container is easily spotted in any place because in my brain as I'm sure other ADD or people without it would think ( if it's out of sight it's out of mind) The clear containers help me see quickly what I am running low on and what I have plenty of and not buy more of that. Hope it helps someone

    • There is a massive issue here with the massive number of single-serve products. Buying 10 individually packaged single serve drink items instead of 1 larger drink container, for example. Which in turn has an effect on taking up more room when being shipped, which produces more fuel emissions, etc. Recycling plastic is not a 100% effective endeavour either. The vast majority of virgin plastic produced is not recycled.

    • the VAST majority of Americans use the original packaging the product comes in. The only things people commonly pour into secondary containers is pasta, flour and sugar. But the whole point is because flour comes in giant bags, you pour it into a smaller one so you can have it handy and easier to use. The people you see in the videos are bored rich people who are obsessed with the look of their laundry room and kitchen (because they are most likely stay at home moms and have to be there all day)
