[35] Abstract Alcohol Ink Art Tutorial
Abstract alcohol ink tutorial using Ranger colors Teakwood and Stream, and Pinata metallic Brass. I used 91% isopropyl alcohol and 9 inch x 12 inch Grafix opaque white craft plastic. I also use a Revlon brush style hair dryer (on the cool setting) with the brush attachment removed to move the ink.

Loved watching this ,and hearing a fellow Southerner do art.
It's comforting when you say that you used to feel like you were chucking it because you can't get it. I'd be very very happy to get what you think are not done or look bad to you and I'd be THRILLED to have it like that LOL
Ah the conundrum of trying to get "accidental painting" to do what you want ... there's always the element of surprise.
Lol Especially with a medium as liquid as alcohol ink and a blow dryer in the mix.
So very generous of you to share your expertise and skill. Love from Amanda UK
oh that's totally the look I'm going for.
Thank you for watching! I hope you got enough useful information to help you get this look in your own paintings.
You are so right. I thought the same way about not ever being good enough, and not wanting anyone to see my stuff. Then, unbeknownst to me, my husband put some of my paintings up for sale on eBay, and something that I didn’t even like, sold! I couldn’t believe it. Somebody actually liked my stuff enough to pay for it! So, now I just do for me to let that creative whatever out, and who cares if anyone else likes it! I love your painting. I’m new to alcohol inks, so when I saw your tutorial, I had to watch, but your encouragement is just fantastic! Thank you so much! ( P.S. - I’m not a flower girl either.)
Isn't it funny how the things we create that we like the least are often the very things that other people think are amazing?! I am so thrilled for you that you are just being happy and creating the way you want to. That's the place that we all need to get to! 💜💜
I love your work. I’m a beginner in alcohol inks and find your tutorials are very informative and easy to follow. I also appreciate you providing the links for the materials needed.
Just watched this, very useful and informative. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge and be so generous. I love this painting! And it is not easy, gosh I am practicing since several weeks… I’ll get there soon I hope. 😉
‘Don’t ever feel like you come up short to someone else’s art’ That is beautiful and wise advise!
Shannon J 💜 It’s too bad that it is such difficult advice for all of us to follow, myself included! Lol I still fall into that trap of wishing mine would turn out like “theirs” instead of loving it for what it is and being happy about its originality. Thank you for the compliment! 💜💜
@@LorrieBrewer I understand what your saying, I've been there with Watercolor painting. No one finds mistakes on our art but us (as in the artist). This is Breathtaking Beautiful and your not even done yet. When do you put the Stream ink in?
😃 You have probably finished watching the video by now and don’t need an answer to when I put the stream color in lol. It’s difficult for me to find time to respond to comments quickly sometimes. If you still have questions about it, just let me know! 💜💜
Their all “Happy accidents” as Bob Ross always said!
I love your sense of humor lol
It's a little weird and warped sometimes lol
I have watched a couple of your videos & I am new to alcohol ink mediums. I really appreciate the info you provide. Your turorials/videos are detailed & it's your artwork that drew me in. I appreciate the explanations & I've learned what I've needed to finish a complicated project I've been working/playing on. :-) your painting reminds me of the sand limestone here in So CA & the deep ocean crevices were the water flows through & you can view the magic deep within them. You are AMAZING! Thank you!
Thank you so much for such a lovely comment! I have sadly never made it down south in CA. Sacramento is as far as I have gotten. From the pictures I have seen, it is without a doubt a place I need to go one of these days.
You are right. I tried inks many years ago, but nothing to help me. Just found all these lovely videos now, so inks dusted off, and I’m ready to roll😊. Thanks.
{ really like your style- i feel like its what i want to try to learn as I love the veining and marble like work God put in nature- thank you for teaching us!!!
So the secret is layers, patience & moving your air source ... & taking chances! Fabulous result!
lol Patience may be the number one secret (along with lots of practice). I am glad you enjoyed this video! Thank you for the comment!
I have been doing Acrylic Abstract paintings for over a year...LOL, I find that SO much easier than Alcohol Inks. I feel like a failure when I see all these gorgeous works of art. Mine look awful! Have tried my airbrush (not a good idea), the rocket bulb (I like it, but still could not get it looking great), and the hair dryer (which I have been using wrong). After watching you today, it gives me the inspiration to try again. Thank You
Beautiful. I realized that I use too much ink. Thanks for this tutorial
That was fantastic, thank you for taking the time to explain it all,I’m new at this so your video has helped me so much.😃😃
I just got supplies to start experimenting with Ranger alcohol inks… this was fun to watch and helpful! Beautiful piece. Thank you 💜

The fascinating thing is that your authentic personality really comes to light by your art. Those mistakes you were talking about, are wonderful and show the real you behind that work. I truly love that piece and appreciate your honesty !
😊 Thank you so much! This comment means a lot to me because I have been told that I should stop pointing out and apologizing for my mistakes. My personal feeling is that every single artist throughout history made mistakes and had screw ups throughout their careers lol. We just only see the perfection in what most create because they don’t want to share the “not so perfect”. For me, personally, that just makes me feel like a failure and that I’ll never be good like that. It makes mistakes seem so much worse and more frustrating to me. I don’t ever want people to see me or my work as perfect. Lol Neither one are! I think sharing some of my own struggles helps keep all of you from feeling like giving up if you can’t get it the way you want it fast enough. I am so touched that you took the time to mention how much you appreciate the way I do my videos! Lol I just try to be me, whether good or bad that day 😃💜
Thank you so much for your response ! Exactly ! That’s how I feel about that too. Whenever I watch videos or tutorials about that, I feel like I‘m doing everything wrong, since I do exactly what those people do, but my paintings don’t come out the way theirs do. At some point it get‘s really frustrating. If you wouldn’t have pointed out those mistakes, I would’ve probably thought, that this was your goal and that your painting came out the way you wanted it to, because to be honest; in my opinion it’s perfect. Also when you say things like “sometimes it doesn’t come out the way you want it and the paint does what it wants“ or “don’t give up if it doesn’t work out the first time“ it really means a lot to me, because sometimes I‘m really about to give up on that, but your words and your beautiful paintings give me the strength to keep continuing ❤️
💜 I can’t tell you how much that means to me! Teaching people how to do this is important to me, but keeping people inspired and helping them to not give up is just as important. Both of your comments have meant more to me than I can say! Believe it or not, comments like yours are what keep ME inspired to keep on doing videos! Thank you!!! 💜😊
Beautiful! I’ve just started playing with alcohol inks and realise that I’ve been way too heavy handed. I love the wispy look of this piece and am amazed how little coloured ink you actually use. Thank you for sharing your technique ☺️
I love this one 👍🏻💐👍🏻💐
Finally, I found my teacher. Thank you so much for your tutorials. I've only watched 18 mins so far, but I now know 180% more than I did before. I'm excited to use what I've learned so far on paper!
Trisha Deboer 😊 Thank you for that lovely comment! I hope the videos continue to be helpful to you! 💜💜
Thank you for sharing your insights about the creative process and our perceptions of our work. It applies to all types of art, for sure.
Thank you for your advise . Glad that I chanced upon your video
Thank you for taking the time to watch and to comment! I hope you got some useful tips and information from the video! 💜💜
Thanks for the info on Hair blower. I appreciate your generosity of information and time. I will be replaying this video to make note of the information given. So glad I found your videos! This artwork is gorgeous!
Beautiful, love it … I think it’s really sweet and kind of you to offer to help others and to offer to share things you’ve learnt from all of the hard work , time and money you’ve put into your art , so I really appreciate that. I’m only just getting into this ,I have a lot to learn so I’m hoping you don’t regret offering help 😉
This turned out so neat!
I just started alcohol ink. I watched this video, and your words ring so true!😊✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️
So pretty! I love it!
Hey Lorrie! Hope you’re well. When you said that if you look at your work and hate it, there will be someone else that’ll love it. Also, you said, don’t judge your work with someone else’s, is exactly what I needed to hear! Thanks, also this piece is beautiful!
Thank you on all counts! That's actually some advice I need to re-mention for some. Too many people are getting frustrated because their paintings aren't coming out like mine. I have to remind myself of that occasionally, too! 💜💜
Absolutely Gorgeous piece ✨
The best ticher! Now i am realy understand, how make soft line. Many Many Thanks! 🌹🌹🌹
You are welcome 😊! I am very glad this video was helpful to you! 💜💜
This is absolutely stunning
Thank you so much for the great tips/ techniques! I do love your style
I love this video and have learned a lot from it. I'm new to alcohol inks and can see a lot of where I've been going wrong - which doesn't mean from here on I'll be going right! It's a beautiful art but, I think, one of the hardest to learn to control. One of my other hobbies, which I'm not good at but enjoy splashing around at, is watercolour painting and a huge problem I had was watching speeded up demos - my brain insisted I should be painting at that speed; I'm sure you can imagine the result! - so I'm always pleased to find really good demos like this, at 1:1 speed and with great explanations. Thank you Lorrie.
Thank you for the lovely comment! I am glad you enjoyed the video. I totally agree about how watching sped up videos makes you feel you should be doing it much faster. That’s one reason I try to keep most of mine at regular speed unless they just get way too long. I’ll be back to posting some new videos very soon!
I love your "mistake" I want to try to make one just like it. Your instruction is so helpful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience!! I'm getting ready to try this medium.
