  • I love this review, as I do your videos on gear in general, but here let me highlight a wonderful thing you did here that I wish content creators did more often: the generous reference to Gerald Undone. We who look up gear reviews are usually interested in a variety of perspectives, from the lab review to impressions in the field to specialized uses for this or that type of photography/videography, and no individual channel can do all of these things equally thoroughly. It's great that there are different channels specializing in different things, and that you show generous recognition of the need for collective coverage here. It highlights the value of your work without diminishing the work of others.

  • Thanks Allison! Your high level review was just the right perspective for me at this point. As a photographer, it’s always been important for me to have every advantage. As a complete beginner to video, it is important for me to have access to as many feature options reasonably possible, so I can have the ability to create and experience as much as I can.

  • Definitely a video shooter's dream camera, especially for run and gun. I mainly shoot photography and ended up buying the A7S III. It's just that good imo! I even ending up shooting some photography gigs on the A7S III. That being said, the 3 biggest selling points for me were the internal 4K 10-bit up to 120p, flip screen, and nearly unbeatable video autofocus

    • Im so tempted to buy this camera - Im just not sure if I'll come undone using slog3 and trying to grade it. Its extra dynamic range in video Im after - the ability to recover highlights or push shadows a bit higher.

      @markshirley01@markshirley012 жыл бұрын
    • @@markshirley01 slog3 is capable of capturing incredible dynamic range, though relies a lot on good exposure for optimal grading results. That being said, I've found that even Standard profile and the newly added S-Cinetone produce amazing color quality while keeping excellent DR. You definitely have some options ;)

  • I have this camera. It's excellent. I like the S-log 10 bit. The stabilization is also useful, though I mostly use standard, not active mode. Low-light capability also crucial for the kind of stuff I do. Lenses are quite expensive though, even when you buy Sigma instead of Sony. But that's true no matter what camera you have. Great video. I love your background and lighting setup!

  • A big zoom range is important to me. Allows me to frame shots that would be impossible without the reach. I recently upgraded from my 15 years old Canon S2IS with 12X optical to a Lumix FZ80 60X optical, and 120X optical at a lower resolution, and adore the camera. That Sony looks like a top quality camera. Enjoying your videos.

  • 4K 120fps is the best. Absolutely amazing!! And it is the first Sony camera with colors that look good without a lot of work. Silicon Power has a good 128GB UHS II V90 card for about $70USD on Amazon that we like. It is the one you need to record 4K 120fps (the super expensive CFExpress is not needed for this frame speed). If you get other brands, make sure the SD to microSD adapter is UHS-II compatible (you can see because it has the 2nd row of pins). We got screwed by Kingston. The CanvasReact cards work, but the adapter is not UHS-II, so you need the right adapter if you buy the Kingston. You will get 1 hour to 1h 20m record time at 4K 120fps depends on the settings.

If so, do you change any of the default settings? If not, how do you normally color your videos? I just found your channel and really liking it so far! Thanks!

  • Next year I plan on buying the Red Ranger Gemini (low light king) and shooting the low budget independent movie I'm writing. Most of the scenes take place outside and at night. I bought the Sony Alpha 7S III so I can location scout around town and get a good idea of where to shoot and where my scenes should take place at. My Zeiss CP.3 Lenses with Sony E mounts should be here tomorrow, I can't wait for the weekend so I can get some good footage of my city and watch it on my Pro Display XDR.

  • I own two cameras: the Panasonic G85 and the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II. The G85 has been relegated to backup and webcam status, but it's certainly a fine camera in its own right. The E-M1 Mark II is great for me for a couple of reasons. 1) Phase-detect autofocus 2) Easy to hike with, including the lenses 3) Blistering burst speed, perfect for photographing sports and wildlife 4) The best in-body image stabilization system in any camera...except perhaps the E-M1X and E-M1 III 5) Detailed Cinema 4K footage However, there are some things I don't love about it. 1) Unintuitive menus...the camera behaves in unpredictable ways sometimes, and it's hard to figure out why. 2) No 10-bit 4:2:2 video 3) Only 1080p up to 60 fps...no 120 fps and no 4K 60 fps 4) Pre-amp is only "good enough," not great 5) UHD and 1080p quality are not nearly as good as the Cinema 4K I don't think being limited to 8-bit 4:2:0 is reason enough to dump my E-M1 II for a GH5, which is not a great autofocusing camera. If I were a professional videographer, I would lean toward a 10-bit 4:2:2 camera like the GH5 or even the a7S III or a7 IV. I might replace my G85 with a GH5 at some point, but I'm not in a huge hurry. Photo and video are just hobbies for me. I made a little film with the E-M1 II and G85, with a couple of 1080p clips left over from my original E-M1. I think it turned out pretty well! kzhead.info/sun/mtupiMWIoHyBqWg/bejne.html

  • Thank you! Fantastic video. As a long term Canon shooter (550D/T5i, 7D) I switched to Panasonic and kept my Canon glass for use with an adapter. However, for documentary work Autofocus and IBIS are key features, along with crispy 10 bit 4K, and for fiction work, RAW capabilities. Still divided between A7S III and R5 because I have a bunch of Canon glass and I do shoot stills as well for both personal and commercial work. Have you tried the R5 at all?

Tired of my videos looking lousy even though I spend hours planning every single shot and weeks editing. Talking about editing, I have heard that the videos coming out of this camera cannot be edited on Premiere Pro nor Final Cut Pro, is that true? I cannot find any information about that and that would be a total no go for me as I am only using those two. Thanks in advance 🌼☀️

  • I have an old but very expensive Canon and have been using that but I just started using my new GoPro 9 and I’m wondering if I can get away with using only it for my videos and the big camera for my shots. The big camera is soooo enormous though that I’m thinking I may have to get the a7s iii just because of it’s size compared to what I now have. Thanks for showing this. It really does make me want to get one.

  • Hi. Do you get a jittery image on the A7SIII EVF when filming in the 4K S-I 10bit codec. It literally only occurs with this specific codec and is totally smooth with no issues in all other codecs. Main screen is smooth, just the EVF view. I’ve got the latest firmware, reset the camera and tried different lenses with the various stabilisations turn on and off. Wondering if this is just my unit or a more common problem nobody is talking about? Thanks.

I had the luxury of just having the money to buy it with high quality lenses and to then level up by working with that gear and honestly it's one of my best investments ever. My personal goal was to become a pro content creator, what I am far from being but on the way to become and that camera is really helping me to be so. I would totally recommend that camera to beginners who absolutely want to learn a lot very fast and to become pro, if they can afford it. Before with the A7S 2 or the A73, I could just tilt the screen a bit without having it rest on top of my left hand. Now I need to use an external monitor if I don't want the goddamn screen to be brushing against my left hand all the time. I don't know why people love the flip out screen so much. It's awful.

  • Hey Allie. Thanks for the video. I'm considering upgrading from the a73 to the A7siii or fx3 soon. I had a question with regarding getting exposure correct when shooting slow motion with a wide aperture prime lens with no ND filter. Even on the a7iii, I'm finding that when i'm shooting 1.8 (wide open) on my prime lenses that i have to jack the shutter speed super fast. When you're shooting a wide aperture (say 1.2, 1.4 or 1.8) what max shutter speed do you find usable specifically in an outdoor situation WITHOUT an ND filter? thx !
