There is a tension adjustment in the sliding cars on the rails. Perhaps the “bad” one is too tight?
It's actually missing one of the little ball bearings giving it to much play. Not a huge deal it's still moves free enough for me.
That's how I plan to build mine too. Might use different top rails though.
if i were to do it again i would have made the carriage base out of lexan or plexi.
How hard is it to keep the router in line using a set up like that compared to just a straight sled made from wood?
it's a two hand job but still pretty easy.
I don't think you can find the rails that cheap anymore. Still not an overly expensive project though.
No I'm pretty sure it was a sale when I bought them.
Would you be willing to provide your list of build materials (minus the plywood)
Vevor guide rails from Amazon, any size you want to use. Cheap CA glue, wood screws, and #10 bolts to secure it to the blocks. Just bring a block to the hardware store to match up the bolts. I'm not sure if they are all the same.
@@CalicoWoodworking thanks man! I just now went on Amazon and got the 2200mm and 1000mm and a 12x24 lexan for $250 with tax. Your design inspired me. Thanks again
I wish I went with a lexan bottom. I'll probably make another carriage before I need to use it again.
Nice thought provoking project. Which guide rails did you use? I’m curious whether there’s any chance of deflection in the middle if they’re really cheap. All kinds of possibilities occur, like perhaps T-slots for the base so you could vary the span. Anyway, fun video. Your garage looks like my first shop forty years ago. Wonderful memories.
I used the Vevor 2000mm and 1000mm. I router isn't heavy enough to make these bend. I suppose I could use a lot of down force and make it flex a little but they are very stiff.
@@CalicoWoodworking I don't see how it is under $100. Maybe you can provide direct links?
I actually just went on Amazon and checked. They are a little more now. When I bought them in October I get the only set for $55 and the short set for $38. Now the 2000mm the cheapest i can find is $95 but the 1000mm I did see for $39. So a little over $134 you could still do it. Or wait until they go on sale again.
@@CalicoWoodworking yeah, I figured you got it on sale
I bought the same recently. The longer ones will bend fairly easily. They should be shimmed on a solid surface or mounted on something straight or else they will deflect
It looks like the price of those Rails have gone up a little. I'll still probably build one though.
It's worth having. Even if you don't use it much.
