    • Yes, this is a great song with all the versions. * The Spector version did a few things that Lennon liked. - He lowered the pitch of John’s voice which Lennon preferred. - Spector took out the girls singing in the chorus which Lennon wanted removed (Lennon thought they were not good singers). - What Glyn Johns did which was a step towards what Lennon wanted was to remove the intro with bird’s wings flapping but Glyn Johns’ drumbeat intro was eliminated by Spector which Lennon preferred. - Those changes by Spector are in all later versions including the Naked version produced by Paul.

And after India, John strikes off with Yoko and they are never quite the same again. Not sure what happened in India, but it wasn’t all peace and love.

Despite the smiles in this video, it is clear their relationships were changing in the wake of the panning that 'Magical Mystery Tour' got. 1968 was very tough year all round. The innocence of their earlier years and music would never return. This song is a glimmer of deep spiritual hope underlying the despair, frustration and madness of losing people like Bobby K and MLK.

Although the latter, at least, was *not* gratefully received by its author... 😏 I guess this was (obvs.) well before the age when multiple versions/mixes of a song would cascade around but, from reading, John seems to've kinda hoped that a cut-down version would eventually be the *album* version however, it seems we're lucky that this track came out at ALL - and I for one, am eternally grateful for the 'mad genius' of Spector when it came to these 2 BEAUTIFUL Beatles songs... “Jai guru deva, om...” 🙏☮ 🥰

  • Never saw all this footage before - only stills. It is cool and is an utter time capsule. Just heard the Glyn Johns mix too - I really like sound and balance of it but can't help the feeling that John should have realised although it was (just) singable at this tempo, it may have worked better slower. I like that wah-wah gtr that George added later which combines with John's slower dreamier vocal which enhances the meaning and contemplative aspect of the song so I have an appreciation for the Spector treatment - save for the totally out place Hollywood movie-style choir backing. IF you could create the Spector version without that choir, I think that'd be the definitive version. As things stand here, you lose the chance to fully appreciate the beauty and profundity of John's lyrics as they are just whizzing by too fast to grasp in real time. I agree with John and many others - this is one of the best Beatles lyrics.

    • Ameer… you seem a little angry… It’s made up words… a refrain in the song… does “ goog goog a joob “ in I am the walrus… offend you too… seems you need to relax a bit. Music is universal and there for us to enjoy… Hope you have a wonderful day… Peace…🌜🌞🌛

    • Ameer… I wish John was still here writing songs for us to contemplate… but someone decided to end his life… they obviously missed the message John wrote and sang about… and now he is gone. I miss John Lennon’s voice and music… There are so many positive things you could put your energies towards… not one song written decades ago… John is now gone longer than he lived… shameful… I suggest you find some purpose and move on with your life…

    • Okay… why would you click on a song that obviously upsets you… it makes no sense… if you are that upset over one song… I wonder what you would do or how you would react if you had a REAL… tragedy or something in your life… that actually mattered… Now you are becoming annoying… and a waste of my time… Go away Ameer… or I will report you to KZhead… Jesus wouldn’t appreciate you being so petty… take a look in the mirror… cast your own first stone.

    • I thought the same thing. He was so happy here. He was searching for something, truth that is and was disappointed every time except for love. He found that something in the relationship with Yoko, their love saved hom. What he didn't realize was that he needed to look inward for the truth. That it wasn't in anything outside of him that would satisfy his longing. It all came from within and he just had to get older and wiser to understand that.
