Join me on a fascinating journey into the BeamNG modding community! In this video, we explore the highs and lows of this world. From amazing mods that push the game's limits to the passionate modders behind them like AgentY and LucasBE, we celebrate the community's brilliance. But not all is sunshine. I also shed some light on a few modders who exploit others by selling low-quality mods at high prices or worse, infecting them. Let's avoid these shady sources and support reputable modders through official channels.

  • JorgePinto here. First of all, I must admit I came across the video by chance and went in by curiosity, and did not expect not only the great insight into the topic, including the research and the work involved in making the video itself. All well documented and with great lessons, especially in the end. I'm really grateful you dedicated a part on my retirement, I did notice the Defender on the thumbnail, so I was expecting maybe a quick reference, but not definitely this, so thank you (and everyone supportive of course) for spreading the word, not only for me of course, but for anyone who is in my situation one way or the other, and according to the comments, I'm definitely far from being alone, which is something good and bad at the same time when you consider it, and depending how you see it... I can only speak for myself of course, since different modders have different approaches to mods, some of them just do it for the great time, some do it as a legit source of income which translates to even better standards of quality (LucasBE is the golden standard on this) and some well...just for the money, at all costs. I did spend some time researching some of these, over 7€ each from a certain modder, and sadly is a common theme, looks good on the thumbnail, but it starts to fall apart the moment you start looking at certain things or just drive it, the effort is to make them look good, that's it. Sadly, many people fell (and still fall) from scammers like this, and just a tiny handful of people deserve trust on paid mods, being LJ74 yet another of them for example, people who make dev-quality content from (almost) scratch, and only ask for 3 or 4 € at most, the quality-price ratio is insane, not even worth comparing to the overpriced broken mods by any means, so please everyone, be sure you know what are you paying for, ask, search and compare first, I also did some maths and the amount of money some of these guys get is truly sickening, due to the high price and empty promises (sometimes they even advert them as having no flaws found...yeah, no) In a final note, I just wanted to give a quick update on me, if I may, I'm still struggling a bit, but as I wrote on my message and Bio narrated too on the video, it's not just one thing, the commitment is big and at one point you might not be able to handle it. I focused on the friendly people, the ones who enjoyed, appreciated and even helped with the mods, since beggars are also a sad reality on the scene (every mod on the official forums, and I mean EVERY MOD) is filled with newcomers asking or even demanding stuff, giving what's already there for granted and wanting more, and for people like Lucas, just imagine the harshness he gets (not even a fraction of the hate he gets is shown here...) since being paid mods well, to be honest does gives you a certain commitment with your buyers, but of course, that doesn't mean you are a slave as well, and some people go straight for that approach...anyway, back to my point, that's also part of why I never did paid things, since many people helped out in really meaningful ways, over weeks or even months, and would be unfair. And let's not forget the elephant in the room, all of my main mods were technically 'meshslaps' since their 3D models comes from popular games, a lot of work was put into them of course, with proper (up to a certain point at least) functioning in-game, handling, crashing, and many extra parts and details made by me, but trying to earn money from a main work not done by you, a licensed work and, even worse, for a licensed game by a licensed brand is not only wrong, but also asking for legal trouble. And that's the other side of the coin for me, on top of all this, as I also explained, how can I try to make a living on this (picturing for a second I could do mods of my own entirely, including the base 3D model of course) when I can't even do it for me? I started modding well, for myself, I explained in the Defender mod I did it because no one did before, I fancied driving it, and thought people could maybe enjoy it too. People did, people again helped a lot (none of my mods would be even 50% of what they are without the community's help) and everyone was happy, but when you do something you like, for yourself, and reach a point you simply feel it as labour rather than a hobby...I can only think how awful would be depending on modding to sustain my life, the commitment would be enormous, and the burnout, immeasurable. Not worth it. I would really love to keep going but when it's not the same, no matter the approach, it's not going to change. Hopefully one day things might change, but the support needed to older mods will still be there (and this is something it still stresses me, I can't keep supporting them, but I hate seeing them frozen in time, and every time the game updates something will break until they are unplayable, which means all the work done eventually will be meaningless) and of course, the game will not only update, but also evolve, and things will get more technical and complex, I was already having a hard time with some of the latest features (the 205 has opening doors, but they don't work as intended for example) and some of my older mods, such as the Jurassic Park Roamer had to be remastered entirely since it was quicker and safer to start over rather than trying to update the old ways) so...not really happy with either way really. Since this comment already got out of hands too (I have to laugh at that) in case anyone went into the trouble of reading this big brick, thanks for your time, enjoy the game, enjoy the mods, be careful with the mods you get, and remember the work involved behind, even for the smaller and at first sight simpler mods, the intention of sharing something done with passion is always there in any case (at least for honest people) and that's all that matters.

    • I'm really glad you enjoyed the video, I am also glad for you putting in the time to write this comment out. I'm Happy as well that I was able to put this together in a way that is representative of the community. And yeah modding is a really really big deal for this game, like you are saying the amount of work that goes into it is quite insane. I am really grateful for those who put their heart out to release mods, I wish there wasn't people who took advantage by selling questionable mods when there is people who put out better ones for free. I'm actually thinking about doing a video about a mod that has been WIP for about 10 years I think, BeamNG modding is no joke.

  • Amazing video, pretty well explained! Also, to be fair the entirety of the BeamNG community has some ups but very very deep downs, which is why modding becomes a bit of a toxic environment as a whole, now with paid mods that'll probably change for the worse.

  • As someone who often spends months on a single BeamNG KZhead short film, I really value quality over quantity, and good work deserves good pay. I am happy to pay for a good mod, and I am happy to see LucasBE's hard work pays off - as it should! He deserves it, as does anyone else who creates something of high quality! Because your craft is worth something. Always. I personally envy modders for their skills but not their job. BeamNG really isn't the easiest game to mod. It's true art work and in part rocket science, and they have my mad respect. As do you, because I really liked your video. I watched it completely. Thank you :)

  • I feel you should talk about the Assetto modding community as well. I'd argue it's a bit worse since it's harder to avoid low-quality mods (there's not really any central mod repos like Beam.ng), and some players will heavily frown upon you for using "bad mods." Not to mention there's been a few bad actors who've copied other people's mods, and this has lead to some people leaving the scene. It's all a steaming hot mess, and I really feel someone should talk about it.

    • @@Crashertv43 Even the base game cars have their issues which usually get resolved in Patch-Updates. It's no different with the mods modders make, they make a mod and it has some bugs or issues, so they make an update to fix said issues. I like using the term Freelance-Devs for Modders, I know many modders also make mods for other games as well. The only time I have an issue with paid mods, is when those mods are Meshslaps with crappy JBeams, low quality texters, and little effort put into them but are being charged at like $10.00 or more in some cases. Another thing I don't support is a mod that has Base Game parts that are just slapped onto other vehicles and is being charged at $5.00.

  • Being a BeamNG "modder" myself, I understand how people like JorgePinto feel about it & the burnout or depression associated with it. When I started my Brutus B1 mod 6 years ago, I definitely thought that I could get it done in a few months even if I had no real modding experience as I thought 'how hard could it be' as back then I didn't really know anything about modding for the game & didn't even realise how much actual time you need to spend to create configs for it, nevermind creating a good mod & support for it afterward so people can enjoy it as long as it can be enjoyed. The problem for me in particular is that just a little before I started creating the B1, I had no prior modding experience for any game but also my physical & mental health started taking a downturn swing due to a rare bone disease which has also affected my brain from which I have still not recovered, 6 years later. Trying to learn how to create models. textures & jbeam all by yourself while your mental health keeps on getting worse is definitely not something I wanted to experience when creating the mod, but I still persevered as I felt that if I don't release the B1 after already showing some minor amount of progress on the forum, I would disappoint a lot of people that were (& still are) excited to see it released. This is what kept my motivation up to finish the mod & definitely has helped me prolong my enjoyment of learning how to create models as well as textures with jbeaming being relegated to someone else. Since I didn't know anything about modding, the B1 was also like a learning project as that's what I used to learn Blender & everything associated with it; as of may this year, which was the last time I touched Blender, the B1 project file has about 2100 hours in it with me remaking the vehicle body itself about 10 times as I am not satisfied with it everytime I see it because I want the B1 to be the very best it can be. With my mental health still steadily getting worse, just like JorgePinto's, I don't know when I will return to finish the mod, but it recently has seen some development on the jbeam front of things from the other person that I am working with on it which does make me somewhat hopeful that it will be finally released before it turns 10 years old (lol). One of the reasons that I noticed as to why a bunch of people in the BeamNG modding community give up or get depressed is that modding for this game is a daunting task & they have to rely on either themselves or a few of the bigger people in the community to learn how to create anything for the game yet only a few people of those few people actually want to teach someone in private knowing how hard it is & how easily you can get discouraged... so why spend the time? It definitely does not contribute anything good to the community trying to learn, but I understand it fully; I was trying to learn how to create a map for BeamNG some time ago as I wanted to bring a real-life offroading place into the game but from asking a few experienced people, only one really took me up on it as he knew my name from the B1 mod. Sorry for the minor rant at the end but I want to see the situation with modding for BeamNG improve, especially in the lack of basic guides on the forum even for small mods e.g. creating time trials as that's one of the things that I do not see being spoken about in videos or elsewhere despite it also being an issue. Whenever I start thinking of those crappy meshslaps which scammers sell for higher prices than high quality things like LucasBE's mods, it does really put a sour taste in my mouth & sometimes makes me want to not finish my own mod, altough at the same time I am surprised that no one has created any other lore-friendly Hummer as of yet. I hope people like LucasBE, AgentY, LJ74 etc. will succeed in being one of the best modders in BeamNG & I wish them all the best

There are several modders of professional level that deserve their mod to be bought, but also several scummy groups that make low quality or even stolen mod and put a price on them. But that 500$ car would be insane at any rate of quality. The most expensive mods I ever seen comes from flight simulators, where a single aircraft can easily cost 50+ $. But there I know Im buying a plane that is basically 100% accurate to real life, developed by engineers that work in the aeronautic fields. 500$ for a dubious car mod is, at best, a scam.

  • It can be the first time to describe the current BeamNG modding community, as a view of someone who have experienced this enviroment for a lot of years. As a modder in BeamNG, concluding the future of modding is impossible: but Limiting on the Korean BeamNG Users, the community seems like doesn't show up for roadmap of modding currently. For those of you who want to make mods in that community, the prospects don't look so bright, given the unwillingness to even answer the question of how to make one and how to get started. Of course, this game was known quite late in my country. In addition, as a problem involving myself, it can be difficult to understand the script called Jbeam, which is a script provided in the game, and to implement the method of expressing the damage effect of the actual vehicle as it is. However, it is not clear what to overcome these problems. If you ask those who already make mods about how to make mods, the answer is: "For Luck. No more talk right now." I'm more concerned about this because I'll be taking college classes soon, and modding and maintaining my work can no longer be possible.

Also if someone tried to steal that video,then put a few watermark and other stuff that makes re-edit them ALOT harder for the bad ones! Edit:or/and also release ATLEAST 1-2 cars for said customer to try out and confirm if they want to buy a subscription related stuff as that WILL help the good ones HEAVILY as that means no one can really try to steal said content of your creations,and if they do... Well you know what.....

  • a good point to bring up as well is that a lot of these low quality asset flips are models ripped from other car games like forza horizon for example. they do bare minimum work to get the model into beam, most of the time they dont bother making a new jbeam but just copy a jbeam from another stock beamNG car which leads to a total mess. ive been working on my first beamNG mod for about 5 months now and that's just been the modeling process (making a knockoff 1st gen mr2 since i have a real one to reference). the models for beam are way more detailed than any other car game, not necessarily in the triangle count but in the fact that you pretty much have to duplicate the original chassis in order to get accurate crash details. in my case i have my spare mr2 chassis torn down to the base shell and I'm using it as reference for my 3d model, in most other racing game models i would completely skip modeling the underside of the car but in beam I find myself assembling the model as if it was a real car. my issue is that with all the poor quality asset flips and me being new to the mod scene for beam that i would struggle to convince the beam ng community that it would be worth spending even a couple dollars on my mod due to there being no trust built up. i have been around for over a decade modding halo but being an unknown in car games i would be starting from scratch. it would be nice to actually make a dollar or two for all my work, for the first time ever (halo doesn't allow you to charge for mods due to the MS GCU rules), but i also don't want the community to feel like I'm only there for the money, im half tempted to make another free mod first using my fixed up e30 forza model i was working on a few years back for rfactor but that just adds more workload to get it up to speed for beam.

  • Before I started playing this game a little bit more serious and getting involved with the modding side I was actually very pleased with the $12 I sent to Royal. At the time I was looking for an R34 the practice driving around in day-to-day traffic scenarios before I took one for a spin irl. I was actually very pleased with that mod as well as a few others that he had. However with my new knowledge I now know that's sadly it is not necessarily the best quality mod. I do think the R34 is actually a decent motive his however other work of his like the countach is much to be desired. It really sucks because the models are deceivingly nice. Another thing I dislike was the driving on a lot of his cars. Particularly the s15 me being a drifter IRL I am not a stranger to the S chassis and how it should feel. However his s15 is damn near undriveable in almost any configuration with really weird handling.... While I'm not terribly offended it is sad because I do like to re-enact scenarios with it which makes it difficult when it handles uncontrollably and can't seem to hold a dirft. What upsets me is all he had to do was use the 240bx? Whatever the 240SX copy is in game and use that as a base. Ironically out of every car and mod I've messed with so far of a best one I've seen for drifting as been the polonez that thing is such a great mod and almost every aspect. Well at least I'm not as naive anymore.....

  • Just found this video. I've been making BeamNG videos for a while now and only just starting to get into some nutty, difficult modding. I've been apart of this Community since around 2017-2018 and I will tell you the Community is already a horrible place. With some being extremely rude for bumping a thread by accident, some complaining about Pricing (Gavril Scout for example), being very unwelcoming to newer Members, starting drama over something small and just overall disrespect left right and center. Obvious this isn't everyone but there's a lot of these people and unfortunately even if you try to "deescalate" the situation it becomes more hostile. Sometimes I wish the Community was back to how it used to be in 2018-2019. I genuinely appreciate everyone's hard work when it comes to modding, but with modding comes hate and harassment. Some even go as far to threaten lives over no release of a mod. I feel the Community is a loss at this point.

  • Paid mods sadly are also a risk for BeamMP servers; unless you have a whitelist of people that have paid for the mod, you will have everyone (including those that didn't pay for it) downloading the files anyways, meaning it is a no-go due to unrestricted piracy. If this, somehow, gets "fixed" in one way or another, I'll give paid mods a chance.

    @holomatic1549@holomatic154910 ай бұрын
  • Paid mods are fine as long as it's 100% your own original content. Taking a model from elsewhere (like ripping models from Need for Speed) and putting a Jbeam rig over it (no matter the quality), or a real-world car or even knockoff real-world car in the style of GTA and then charging money for it is totally unacceptable. These things are fine as long as they're not behind any sort of paywall, but the second you start charging real money for a model you didn't make, or a car/brand you don't own or knocking off a design of a real world car and changing the name and badge, it becomes not only morally unethical, but outright illegal as well. BeamNG is worse about this than any other game I've ever seen with the sole exception of Roblox. Paid mods need to be 3 things 1: Worth the money 2: Completely original. Inspiration from other things is fine but knockoffs are not if you want to charge money for it 3: Fairly priced with permanent purchase options instead of subscription only models
