  • To eliminate paint seepage under your tape, start with your black (or whatever base color you choose) canvas, lay your tape and press down the edges as well possible. Next, repaint over then tape with the black or base color, doing your best to make sure all the tape edges are sealed. After that paint layer has dried, paint your colors as shown in the video. Lift your tape while the paint is still wet, and then, Voila! Clean, crisp edges and no paint blobs!

    • Hi I’m glad you gave that advice my first art project didn’t turn out so well due to me not sealing the tape properly. I also want to ask is it okay to use thin canvases?   • you know, I think one of the reasons I like abstract art is that it feels so accessible. There's no need for incredible skill or training all you need is some imagination and creativity and you can kind of just jump into it and make something that looks nice. Unfortunately I'm not in a financial position where I feel comfortable going to the store and buying a bunch of art supplies to play with, but someday I will.

  • Just a tip: use a old or new toothbrush when making the starts or white splats🤗 ( u might ruin ur brush)

  • Artist: That's really cool; good job! Woodworker: The tape isn't straight. The border is not square. The spacing is inconsistent. The paint bled under the tape in multiple places because you didn't use 3M blue or green masking tape. The purple paint did not distribute evenly. You couldn't even put down a drop-cloth to protect the table? Moral? Sometimes you choose your hobbies, and sometimes your hobbies choose you.

    • pretty sure it's just the same pre-recorded sound effect being edited in, it doesn't always match up with the way that the tapes being taken off... which is slightly distracting... But then again, it doesn't change the fact that the artwork is beautiful!

  • Neat. If you would’ve done a second black basecoat over the taped canvas, you would have eliminated the slight tape bleeding. The color keyed second coat seals the edges, so subsequent paint won’t bleed underneath any tape edges.

    • @@doggydays5781 Thanks, some years ago I tried with masking tape, but the result was never good, the lines were not straight, the painting often spilled out of the lines XD Maybe I was just bad with this technique, I should retry.

  • In the 70s it was called hard edged painting and the little blobs or "bleeds" under the tape were considered failures in the process...a case of begin again.
