Georgia destroys TCU in the National Championship | Joel Klatt Show

2023 ж. 9 Қаң.
127 141 Рет қаралды

FOX Sports’ lead college football analyst Joel Klatt reacts to Georgia’s blowout win over TCU in the National Championship game. Joel discusses his experience at SoFi Stadium for the game and describes what he saw in the lead-up, during the actual game, and the aftermath. Then, Joel shares his thoughts on what this means for Kirby Smart, Stetson Bennett, and the Georgia football program now that the Bulldogs have won back-to-back titles. Georgia is now definitively the top program in the country and they showed why in their win over the Horned Frogs. Finally, Joel explains why a blowout result like this is far less likely to occur in an expanded CFP, and why it is better for the sport.

    • @@SuperGamerzchannel That's it exactly. What you saw was a master class in scheming from OC Todd Monken, and good execution from the offense. Monken realized if he could get them all veering to one side of the field, he could sneak a fast guy to the other side before they had a chance to adjust. Georgia runs an efficiency offense - death by a thousand cuts. They'll get 10-15 yards at a time, keeping it within one or two downs, if you can't stop them. I think they punted exactly once. (And it was a great punt.) The defense was almost as flawless, with the exception of Ringo missing an assignment that let to TCU's score (although he cleaned it up for the rest of the game.) Kirby and the DC team figured out exactly how to counter their offense, and they just had no answers.

They saw what worked (Michigan's second half offense scoring 39 points) and avoided shooting themselves in the foot like Michigan's O did in the first half and Michigan's D did in the second half (cover zero is a bad idea against a good, mobile qb) ... Having healthy, experienced running backs (as opposed to Michigan's Rb1 Corum out and Rb2 Edwards playing with a broken thumb) helps, too.

TCU didn't win the B12 & had 9 close games, including Mich. Florida blew out 8 or 9 opponents and closest game was 11 pts (twice). Nebraska won 2 NC in 94 & 95 and should have been the AP NC in 1997, but the sportswriters handed it to Michigan. As bad as the TCU loss was, I'd say Florida's loss was worse.

  • A couple of things: 1. Kirby puts the backups in at the end of every game where they are up big. Tons of backups. And they play as hard as they possibly can. This gives the coaches the ability to evaluate them in actual games, and gives the future starters for next year vital experience in actual games. This is the process. I don't think they care acout the score or the other team. Georgia is focused on Georgia getting better. 2. Stetson is not the same qb as he was. He got better every year and every game of his career. He wasn't as good as Aaron Murray or David Greene at the beginning of last year. Not even close. But now? Yes, he is better than they were. It is a credit to how hard he works. I was one who was hoping Georgia would play JT last year after the SEC Championship loss. I was wrong. If Georgia had to play another game next week, I would take Stetson over anyone who has ever suited up for Georgia. He made every throw againt TCU. Every throw exactly where it needed to be. • What a way for Georgia to bookend their schedule, by stomping AP preseason #11 Oregon (coached by Dan Lanning who knew the Bulldogs program as their former DC) 49-3 in week one, and then putting up another basketball score on #3 TCU in the season finale. Makes me wonder what a computer simulation matchup would show with Joe Burrow's LSU title team, which beat the top-4 teams in the AP preseason poll on their way to the national championship.

    • Why? With the arbitrary rules that are going to be in place to keep out as many SEC teams as they can to placate the other conferences, complete and total beatdowns like this are going to be the norm and no one will watch the games. They need to find a way to re-introduce a BCS style system to determine who gets in the playoffs, not give teams a participation trophy for winning shitty conferences.

    • Thank you! What are the good options there? Take a knee and embarrass your opponent by saying we aren’t even going to try? They ran it on 4th down to keep the clock running. There were no good options at that point. I have already heard people giving UGA hell for taking 2 curtain calls to celebrate their players! You’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t. I agree about the blitzing though… probably shouldn’t have been doing that, but again, the backups are in and they’re excited to have the chance to play in this game. They want to make a splash too! This isn’t guaranteed for anyone to have this experience/opportunity again, so when you get the opportunity to play and make a big hit or make a big run (Branson Robinson) you do it! Period.

  • Bennett is underrated still. He has a better arm and better legs than a decent number of NFL QBs. He's an NFL prospect, just not an elite NFL prospect. Almost every NFL QB is a bust anyhow, including the huge #1 draft guys. His performance and leadership was key to winning two national championships. There are "better" QB prospects who would have lost more games.

  • People want to say he's 25 like it's 35. He only got 1st team snaps less than 2 years. In those games he went 27 and 1. His only loss was to Bama in the SEC Championship. He played in 4 playoff games and won the offensive MVP in all 4. Plus the MVP in this years SEC Championship. Then to top it off won the Manning award this year for best QB in College football. Tell me of another QB with a better resume who will not make the college Hall of Fame.

  • Here's my problem with everyone's critique of Stetson Bennett, Didn't everyone basically do the same thing to Tom Brady? Sometimes it's not about your physical attributes but other intangibles that very few guys that do have the physical ability don't have..

    @dj39920@dj39920 Жыл бұрын
    • Yes, they did. But Tom Brady is the anomaly. He also benefitted from being in a great system with the right coach. And he's had a lot of luck and great kickers. All of these things worked out for him. The reality is that the criticism of quarterbacks like this is usually warranted.

      @JB-tp6uj@JB-tp6uj Жыл бұрын
  • Love the show! I will disagree; an expanded playoff may allow for a team to get that one out of ten against a 'better' team and then end up playing deeper in the playoff or even in the final game and they would not 'belong' there. This same result would then happen.

  • Stetsons numbers in big games are off the charts. He's not comparable to a guy like AJ McCarron who was actually a game manager. (Unlike Stetson who erroneously gets called a game manager by dumb people.) Stetson threw for 400 against OSU in the semi, and every single one of those yards was necessary, because our defense was getting shredded by Stroud. Does Stetson have a great team around him? Absolutely. But is Stetson one of the greatest college qbs of all time. Absolutely.
