Memorizing a text can be really useful for your English practice!
It can help you learn words in context, new grammar structures and help you use your voice in English more confidently. And most important, it’s SO MUCH FUN!
In this episode I share with you the technique I used to memorize monologues when I was an actress, and then - we’ll put it into practice together!
Here’s the text I used in the video, but I highly recommend to also download my FREE memorization guide so you could see the script written out phonetically: bit.ly/3KS33bn
On our very first day at Harvard, a very wise professor quoted Aristotle: ’The law is reason free from passion.’ Well, no offense to Aristotle, but in my three years at Harvard I have come to find that passion is a key ingredient to the study and practice of law - and of life.”
If you are an InFluency Community member, I’m challenging you to memorize this text with me, and upload your video in the community!

  • You are the key from information teacher Hadar 😊 This video by Hadar is about how to memorize a text, monologue, or scene in English to improve language skills. 1. She emphasizes that this method is not a substitute for practicing speaking and learning the language theory, but an additional tool. 2. She suggests choosing a text that is emotionally fulfilling to make the process more enjoyable. 3. She provides a step-by-step guide on how to memorize a text: i. Prepare the text: Write it down in your own handwriting or put it on a digital format like Google Docs. ii. Always say the text out loud: Connect your eyes, brain, and mouth by reading the text out loud. iii. Repeat the text: Repeat the text many times to develop muscle memory. Focus on repeating the challenging parts. iv. Record yourself: Record yourself saying the text and listen to it on the go to maintain the words in your brain. 4. She also provides tips on how to remember the order of sentences and how to deal with challenging words. 5. She discourages memorizing a text by shadowing someone else, as it may limit our freedom to explore our voice and different intonation patterns. 6. She warns about the negative aspect of memorizing: It should not be the only thing you do to improve your language skills. It should be a small part of your practice. 7. She emphasizes the importance of memorizing words within the context, as it helps to understand the meaning of the word and how to use it. 8. She demonstrates the memorization process using a monologue from the movie "Legally Blonde". 9. She encourages moving around and acting out the text to get it into your body and make the learning process more enjoyable. 10. She concludes by challenging the viewers to memorize a short text and share their experiences

  • in brief:The speaker discusses a method for memorizing a text by organizing it into short lines and thought groups, and encourages choosing a powerful monologue for practice. They recommend visualization, using body language, and repetition to aid memorization. Sharing the results within a community for feedback and support can be helpful in improving the memorization process.

    • HI !, I happened to do that same exercise two weeks ago using an exrept of the MILES DAVIS biography. I had already read this book twice and I just like the thousand mini stories that are hidden into the overall story of that great jazz musician. this book is not written in a literary style but rather the way people normally speak every day. I wrote each sentences separately, just like it is recommended in the video, then I tried to repeat them over and over until I get a good fluidity, I must confess that the hardest part is to recall the whole thing as a unit but it is very rewarding to be able to glue 2 to 3 parts together, it makes you sound "pro" and truer even if it's for a short time in the secret of your home. this is a challenging stuff but it is worth practicing. 😜😜 LOVED THE VIDEO.

  • Fantastic. Memorizing good examples of text can help speak more fluently, eloquently, and authoritatively. Normally, I find it very difficult to memorize anything. With your help I already memorized that example in your video. Here it is, completely from my memory: "On my very first day at Harvard, a very wise professor quoted Aristotle, "Law is reason without passion." Well, no offense to Aristotle, in my three years at Harvard, I have come to find that passion is a key ingredient to the study and practice of law, and of life"

  • I learn whole sentences saying them aloud. 5 days - 300 repetitions per day at least. Later I don't need to translate. I know the meaning of words straight away like in my native language. And also I remember the meaning longer than by learning separate words. This method is called: chunking. It was a real game changer in my learning process and communication skills in English and other languages.😊😊

  • Nobody is perfect, it is just an illusion !! It is weird because everyone is stuck with that purpose but it is not a good thing to progress. Maybe because in school we are always against, we compare with, we judge others and ourself... It is stupid unfortunately. Perfection does not exist at the end of our life there is nothing. It is really strange as society organize that perfection idea for a moment of our life. I am sure it is for using our energy, dream, power, motivation... But nothing is thought about it.
