  • Several items mentioned can be purchased from a salvage yard. I purchased a rear light fixture for 250$ USD, perfect fit, no leaks. Regarding the front lenses, polished with a high speed buffer, sparkling clear. Purchase from a salvage yard is also a great option. I would say that more than anything, the electricals and modules are the biggest items to watch for. TPMS module is known to fail, Bluetooth compatibility with newer phones is wonky at best, seat modules can fail, rearview mirror dimming is prone to failure. All are easy fixes if mechanically inclined. Finally, I would mention suspension parts, if you have a car that is 10-17 years old, the bushings are likely shot. I replaced front and rear on my 07 with Lemforder parts, now a smooth ride. Great vid for new comers to the 150.

    • Thanks for the top tips and glad you were able to do the work and source the parts relatively easily. What a great payoff you now have in what should be a cracking and sorted motor

  • I've enjoyed your journey. I have a 2011 XKR and love it. I have a 3 year insurance backed warranty and have had a compressor, condenser and one or two other items renewed . They have honoured the claims. I love the car. Keep us posted on your next project.

  • My left side reverse light and rear fog light to not light-up when going into reverse and turning on the rear fog lights respectively...I am told this is normal?

  • Great video, just wish I had demanded a backup key upon purchasing, did however make out with some other important items such as the battery replacement, all fluids drained, brake pads replaced, wheels scars repaired. I suppose the key would have been icing on the cake.I love my 2014 XK as well.

  • Great cars, electronic issues after a while like every other car but a pleasure to own. Not sure why a couple of the comments are so negative on the vehicle. Almost 600 hp on stock motor and trans runs like a dream

  • Great video! Very useful for XKR drivers. I just want to add, when my plastic headlight lenses get cloudy I just polish them with a whitening toothpaste rather than replace them. Thumb up!

    • Do you just polish the outside, or take the headlight lenses off and polish the inside.

  • I am on my second XKR and don't recognise some of the criticisms. Key fob casings can be bought for about £15 a pair off the internet, just swap the printed circuit board and battery and reuse the metal key. The tailgate interior cover fixings are a bit of a faff but you can actually adjust them. I may have been lucky with the headlight covers never had a problem. Same with the rear quarter light. Dead right about the condensor radiator but one little quirk is that when it leaks it can go straight onto the pedestrian assist sensors behind the front bumper. This warning light then appears and the air con stops working. Don't pay the Jaguar price for a condensor its exactly the same as a Ford Mondeo and can be had for about £85. Tail lights do leak and as suggested attend quickly. My car is a 2010 and the headlining appears to be on a solid backing so a bit unsure about how it could sag. I think thats just an XJ problem. If you are looking for an XK check the paintwork for pickling, usually found on the doors near the edges or handle cutout and wing edges. I know the car is aluminium but it looks like rust. Also on the XKR check for supercharger rattle at idle speeds. Its a known fault that needs a new nose cone but it can be done for about £1500 using genuine Jag parts. Would I have another.....absolutely.

    • Thanks for sharing the detailed information. I might just have been unlucky but I have recently bought my second XKR and it did indeed have headlining sag which is resolved (posted a video about it)

  • I've enjoyed your videos and this is a very practical guide. Perhaps you could buy another XK and put into play the things you've learned. You can quickly become something of an authority. I own a 2012 model and adore it: to drive - and to look at!! Best wishes

  • As an XKR owner, thanks; very useful resource for potential buyers. Though not things to “spot” pre-purchase, I would add the dreaded duckbill Aircon bypass drain tube which gets stuck as the rubber “bill” ages, and results in water being dumped in the passenger footwell, or in my case, alerting me sooner, in my daughter’s trainers ! Covered under purchase warranty fortunately, as a nightmare to get at, squeezed behind the engine and the bulkhead. Secondly, be aware of potential for coolant leakage in the valley pipes under the supercharger of an ageing XKR. Not spotting the coolant loss could result in a seized engine 😳🤬😟

    @aljohnson8679@aljohnson86797 ай бұрын
    • Thanks for that. I did mention the valley hoses under the supercharger although would be hard to see without getting the supercharger off. Should have mentioned the duckbill bypass 🤦🏽‍♂️

  • What put me off the X150 and pushed me towards an X351 (a choice I do not regret) was the gearbox. I had an XF with a 6hp gearbox and it failed, I've heard other XF owners (X250) say similar although not that many, but it's a once bitten twice shy kinda thing. Mine was the 6hp25 which is a low torque version, maybe the higher torque versions are better? I'd be interested in any X150 gearbox stories because I've still got an eye for them.

    • I find the gearbox is holding out well despite the 127k miles on it. Just needs servicing I suppose. Not heard any issues with it

  • Sad to see your car go as I can see you really loved it. If you buy another one, try the XK 5.00ltr Portfolio, power will be plenty enough and you will get slightly better fuel economy.
