Okay, I can't call it "an otherwise good movie", but the twist in M. Night Shyamalan's *_"The Village"_* is ridiculous because they would have had to purchase all the airspace over *_THOUSANDS_* of cubic miles to prevent aircraft from flying within visual range of the *_ENTIRE_* horizon of the village and up to 250+ miles vertically (because, you know, some satellites and the ISS would appear in the night sky eventually).

6:23 Twilight: “It may have followed the book” no actually it did not. There is no battle scene in the book. It caught everyone off guard
That's why she said may
So true. I hated the fight scene, not because it was a vision, but because it shouldn't have happened at all. It cheapens Bella's impact, as it was her power that scared them. They knew they would not have their normal advantage.
@@paulhorrocks6845 The battle itself wasn’t anything special.
I wonder how movie audiences would have reacted if the Volturi had travelled halfway around the world to have a chat with the Cullens', then leave. Having read all of the books, I was shocked when the movie came out and the fight scene hit hard, but the twist brought me back. If nothing else, the movie ending is far and away the better ending over the book.
I remember watching that movie, that was legit the only one I watched in theaters and I sat there like “Now wait a minute.” Then I found out it wasn’t in the book. See the twist isn’t the issue, I like the twist. My issue is that the bad guys didn’t use that as an advantage!
You’re wrong about the Twilight one. I think fans were excited about the action scene and also relieved when it was revealed to be a vision. I think general audiences may have wished they committed to the twist, but overall it made the climax of the movie better. There’s no huge everyone dies battle in the books, so for cinematic purposes it makes more sense to have that twist so audiences don’t die of boredom.
While I see your point, the fact "die of boredom" was actually an option and something they had to think about whether or not to avoid is a bad sign.
I was relieved that it was a vision. 😂
The Spectre "twist" was so ludicrous, it kinda potrays Blofield as a extremely petty step-bro instead of a super villian....
They had to do that ending for Twilight because literally nothing happened at the end in the books. They talked, and then they went their separate ways. It would've been so anti-climatic if they'd done it that way for the movie.
The Julia Roberts double gag in Ocean's 12 was one of the dumbest things ever.
I would have put The Village on here instead of Glass.
The plot twist of Twilight's final battle was easily the best thing about the entire franchise.
I agree with this. If it had followed the book exactly, it would have ended with a conversation. That twist saved the ending tbh. The book ending would not have translated well onto the screen
I saw it in the movie theater. So many people dropped f-bombs and walked out. I almost walked out. But my friend wouldn't let me leave.
I think the battle scene was more interesting than what happened in the book. I liked it, too.
Omg right?! I seriously didn't like twilight but ALL of my friends, daughter and sister were addicted to it so when the last movie came out we all got together to go watch it for a "girls night ". When this scene came up the entire theater went nuts crying and hysterical. Except for one. Me. I was laughing and especially for the chaos! But then when it came out to not be real i was super pissed - the audience especially the ladies i was with were so relieved it wasn't real while i sulked. 😂😂😂
The one thing I didn’t like about Now You See Me was Ruffalo’s character locking up Morgan Freeman’s character, just because he…tried to expose Ruffalo’s dad as a fraud? Even though he had nothing to do with the dad’s death? And yes, I’ve seen part 2. I dislike part 2 and part of the reason was the ridiculous way they tried to resolve a twist the first movie didn’t need in the first place, by revealing Freeman to be a lead member of the secret society.
I don't get the love for those 2 movies. They just want to seem smarter than the audiences without actually being intelligent.
I think in the first movie, it was more Ruffalo's dad wanting to prove that he was a good magician because of Freeman exposing him, so that's why he did that dangerous trick....I think? But then they said in the 2nd movie that they were actually friends in real life, so idk....I still love both movies though and can't wait for the third!
I didn't mind the 1st "Now You See Me." The 2nd one was garbage; too many contradictions, useless side characters, hell they added an evil twin.
I was rooting for ruffalo's character. and then the twist was revealed. after that I hated the movie
Even without the cloning twist, which gave me another reason to hate _Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,_ that movie alone was an unnecessary extension of the _Jurassic Park_ franchise. They should’ve made the original movie a one-and-done thing.
I’m glad Dominion improved on it. It made me hate Maise a lot less & feel sorry for the actress. She’s probably got as much backlash as Jake Lloyd in the Phantom Menace
I agree with you
Blame Michael Chriton, he just *had* to write a sequel.
Htr@@Reaperguy67
@@williamcrowe2576 To be fair, The Lost World is an amazing book, and it's as if the book and the movie are two separate entities. Not hanging this one on Crichton.
Look...I read those terrible Twilight novels, and while I hated them enough to never watch the films,I'm aware of the climactic battle at the end of the last film, and how it turns out to be Alice's vision. The film DIDN'T follow the novel, because NOTHING HAPPENED in the book. It was SO anticlimactic and stupid. This left the screenwriter(s) with a unique problem, because they HAD to do SOMETHING. Given their predicament,I thought that they did the best they could to fix it. So this is all on Stephanie Meyers for writing a terrible non-ending to her stupid, boring vampire novels.
Killing Ilsa Faust twice in Dead Reckoning quite possibly the worst thing they did since they made Jim Phelps being the bad guy in the first Mission Impossible
Just my opinion, but the "Jurassic" films should've stopped after the first one.
So very true!
Speak for your self, I remember watching that twilight scene in theaters and everyone loved it! Also that James bond movie is a lot of people's favorite
Twilight DID NOT follow the book. That scene shocked all of us. The books climax wasn't that climactic so Stephanie Myers approved of the movie ending for the shock factor that no one would see cominf
One that comes to mind is with Scooby Doo: Scrappy being the villain the whole time and just using an animatronic copy of the man who hired Mystery Inc is so out of left field that it doesn’t even make sense.
so the villain being in a suit, from a tv show where the villains are always in suits was out of left field? lol
@@buffnerd82 It’s not so much that it’s a villain in a suit, but who the villain winds up being. The motive makes no sense, the fact that he was only shown in a flashback rather than being present anywhere else makes it jarring, and wouldn’t it make more sense for him to have wanted to plant himself as the leader of Mystery Inc than take over the world?
Come on, after Velma the tv show I 200% enjoy that twist over the show.
The final "twist" of Glass is one of THE worst of all time.
I couldn’t agree more.
A puddle of water, a fucking puddle of water!
A pool or borehole would have been better
@korrainnomad365 I think that year had quite a few underwhelming films.
I personally don't have that much of a problem with it. If virtual super humans have been around for so long, the question of why more people don't know about them will eventually be asked. Revealing that there has been a group of people that have been actively preventing that helps explain that.
That twist in the Planet of the apes remake was godawful. It made no sense whatsoever.
I agree.
I already hated Life of David Gale before the ending but at that last scene I actually shouted "you got to be kidding me!"
I have never stopped laughing at the reveal that the big fight in TWILIGHT was nothing but a metaphorical middle finger to the audience. All that hype over the years for the TWILIGHT movies and it ended on a "it all meant nothing" note.
Even Twilight fans agree nothing actually happens in the Breaking Dawn book so that was always going to be a problem.
@bigbearkat2010 don't matter when it comes to the books as source material. The Hobbit was turned into a 3-Part movie and the LOTR despite being a 3-Part movie still had stuff missing or altered, even in Special Editions. There was no hype for the books that didn't come as a result of the movies
I was genuinely surprised and touched by Last Christmas. It was such a good message, especially at a time like Christmas when you should understand what you're grateful for. For Emilia's character, it was something as simple as her life, which I think a lot of people don't realise about themselves.
I loved the twist in Now You See Me. I wasn't expecting it at all. I love that movie!
The confession is the whole point of David Gale!
The irony of David Gayle is that people knew the truth, but they framed themselves, so someone is executed for crime they didn't commit. So, in reality, the people who don't speak out committed the crime of death. Because they didn't have any evidence to the contrary, the court system worked. The irony is that the people who put the movie out showed that innocent people get put to death when that law is available, but they really proved otherwise.
Why? The general scheme I get (it doesn't make the movie good but I understand it) but Spacey undermines the whole thing by admitting he was in on it.
I thought the whole idea of the movie, was kind of stupid.
@mikedelong1207 the point of this movie was to be stupid and steal people’s money. It is using the issue so cynically.
Thank You! I will never understand how people miss that. The point was to show innocent people could be executed. The video proved it was a suicide. It wasn't murder and the state executed an innocent man. No video, no confession, the world goes right on believing they executed a murderer.
Sometimes, with these plots, just leave them on the conception floor. 🎉
Dishonorable Mention: *It's a Video Game - Dragon Quest: Your Story -You know people actually HATED the plot twists of Star Ocean 3 and Serenity, right? YOU WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO COPY THEM! If you want a similar concept done right, LOOK AT THE SIMPSONS GAME! It's basically the same thing DONE RIGHT! Except it's established as early as the second level and was self-aware enough to mock this premise.
I'm begging for a sequel to "Remember Me" in which Tyler surives! Or at least becomes a vampire.
For me the twist in Don't Breathe was unnecessary and ruined a pretty unique concept. More movies should take lessons from The Strangers. Keep it simple.
I loved most of these twist ending. Glass was disappointing though
"Last Christmas, I gave you my Heart but the very next day, you gave it away" ... Wait!
Yeah, Last Christmas annoyed me..
Twilight Part 2 thing sounded very cheap, Until u said it was in the book! Wow.
I love Daniel Craigs Bond in general, but I dislike Spectre so much that I usually only watch Casino Royal, Quantum of Solace, and Skyfall.
If you thought the Clone reveal was wild in Fallen Kingdom… just wait until you see the twist in Dominion 😂
Click could have easily been in this list too.
I know a lot of people took umbrage with the clone reveal of the girl in Fallen kingdom but the main issue people had wasn't that she was a clone (which is kinda dumb for a world that introduces successful cloning of dinosaurs which is basically glorified animal testing) it was the justification that was the case the dinosaurs would have to be set free.
Terminator: Dark Fate, the very beginning just made the first two films pointless.
@sdcazares1980 I think that may have started with previous one kind of.
I'd say Genisys did that worse, Dark Fate at least didn't make John Conner the bad guy.
@@bigbearkat2010 I think Dark Fate is either worse or about the same.
I beg to differ on the twilight twist… I was in one of the midnight showings that they had for that movie and not one person groaned in disappointment at the twist. Even memes about that twist show how amped up and crazy crowds went for that twist… this list is the first time I’m hearing anyone talk about that twist being bad.
Spielberg's finish to AI also absolutely ruined a somewhat intriguing Kubrick story.
Titanic. Jack's death. #1
I'd actually like to thank you for one title you _didn't_ include: 1987's _No Way Out,_ with Kevin Costner and Gene Hackman. Some critics savaged the ending's big reveal -- I seem to recall one actually recommending that you watch the movie but skip the first and last three minutes so you'll be spared -- but I think it still works. They didn't cheat; they gave some sly hints along the way, then hit you with it right at the very end.
Planet of the apes... i feel like I'm the only one who liked the ending.
Disappointed that "Pay it Forward" isn't here.
I remember watching Last Christmass trailer in cinema with my friend and she immediately called the "huge" reveal and I was like "naaaah, it cant be that "obvious" and "straight forward" xD welp....
You can can spell it out. It was me James, ruins Blofelds' Background because It was already done with Dr. Evil - Austin Powers. Anything Blofeld deos at this point will seem like a parody of itself.
The weird part of the Jurassic "twist" is that...we already can clone people and have done it. It's not weird or special. Identical twins are clones. It's just DNA and a super weird thing to do in any case.
With the Twilight entry you said it yourself: it follows the book!
The Usual Suspects should be on here: Soze executed a convoluted plan to kill the one person who could identify him, but now Agent Kujan knows who he is and the LAPD has mugshots of him
Agent would need to prove it.
@@allisonchainz82 they have the sketch based on the description by the Hungarian survivor of the boat explosion, who also now could identify Soze on sight. The whole point was to eliminate the one person who could identify Soze, and in doing so he exposed himself to a much broader audience.
Planets of the Apes twist maybe infamous, but it actually makes a complete sense in the context of the movie's time travel -element.
Blofeld being the mastermind behind all the previous movies was fine - he is the head of SPECTRE after all - but him being a step-brother of the orphaned Bond was completely unnecessary
For number 5 I agree that it sucks that the final battle didn't happen but at least Leah and her brother are alive so that's actually a good thing 🤷♀️
The Mark Ruffalo twist was nice
I liked it mostly because I hated the other protagonists
Please do Top 10 Games Yet To Receive An Adaptation (God or War, Bioshock, Strider, Fire Emblem, etc.)!!
Shamalan's worst plot twist isn't Glass, it's The Village! Destroyed the whole movie!
If we were supposed to have sympathy for that clone girl Maisie, they failed miserably.
You leave Last Christmas alone. We stan a George Michael music movie.
I didn't mind Blofeld being behind everything, my problem was with making him Bond's brother. That was completely pointless.
The whoile point of the fourth Twilight book is to *avoid* the fight with the Volturi. But that would have made a very boring final act. I think the film did a brilliant blend between giving people action and still keeping the twist of the book. In fact, they even managed to give book readers who knew what happened a twist too which is tricky to do. I was expecting it to happen differently when I saw the trailer but it was well done imo. SPOILER ALERT --------------- I remember being really shocked when the fight started and beloved characters died, and the reveal it was a vision it was brilliantly done.
Actually, the unexpected twist in "Last Christmas" is precisely what makes the movie so interesting. First, we typically don't expect such plot twists in romantic comedies. And once it's revealed that he is a ghost, you find yourself reflecting back on scenes and realizing that no other characters ever interacted with him or even met him, because she was the only one who could "see" and "feel" him. Though heartbreaking that their love couldn't carry on in the living world, the twist set the movie apart.
The twist in the last twilight movie wasn’t bad, I liked that it was a vision. I don’t even mind that it wasn’t in the book (although I get the book fans being upset with the twist as well) my issue is that vampire leader sees this vision, every move made and every attack that killed them… and didn’t even attempt to kill Alice and her boyfriend! How awesome would it be for him to at least say, “Thank you for letting me know.” Then he rips her head off or maybe kills her boyfriend, idk something. Yes I got that from hishe but dang it makes sense!
Now do a "Top 10 brilliant twist ending" if you havent already
Stop hating on The Jurassic World Series just to make yourselves seem cool!
9:26 I didn't get this until the net came around smh this and the Village
Last Christmas stole the whole idea from the 1990 Bob Hoskins & Denzel Washington movie Heart Condition.
come on now, "Now You See Me" had a great twist! I remember being so surprised at the reveal. Also, they didn't know till the end that they were working for him....the whole time, they just thought they were getting away from the cops
I hate that movie so much. And I love heist movies.
Agree with Spectre and Now You See me.
Man idk what you’re talking about, as someone who read the books, that twilight twist was FANTASTIC and a smart move to make. The final book is just a bunch of talking, so adding in what Alice saw was perfection. I was gagged.
I didn't mind the Now you see me one. Maybe its because of Mark Ruffalo.
I actually really liked Last Christmas lol, but I can see why some people might not
I loved the twist in now you see me!
4. You know people actually HATED the Star Ocean 3 plot twist, right? YOU WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO COPY IT! Something similar also happened with the ending of Dragons Quest: Your Story. If you want a similar concept done right, LOOK AT THE SIMPSONS GAME! It's basically the same thing DONE RIGHT! Except it's established as early as the second level and was self-aware enough to mock this premise.
5:36 “the collective groan audiences let out…” WRONG everyone in the theatre gasped in awe. disgusting misrepresentation 😫
When Mr White mentions my organisation at the start of Casino Royale, it was obvious he was talking about Spectre.
Lets be real. The Twilight fight was because the producers knew that the climax of the book is as interesting as watching the gras grow for days. the volturi come, there is a boring talk of how the volturi are so evil, and the voltuir leave. pure boredom. so this twist at least gave us something to watch
I thought the twilight thing was rather clever.
I stayed just to make sure Remember me was #1
I still feel like the James bond makers where out of idea and looked at the worst place for inspiration:Austin Powers & Scream 3.
I thought the idea of Bond and Blofeld being related was trying to copy Star Wars
@@SpamEggSausage [spoilers for the third powers movie] Austin Powers is something like a James bond parody and in the 3rd(2002) its revealed that he and Dr. Evil, who is mostly based of blofeld, are twin brothers who got separated in young age.
@@MaxWeb2599 yes, I know that. But having characters turn out to be related is associated with Star Wars too
The Twilight 'twist' committed one of the most heinous acts you can within creative writing. "It was all a dream" is the worst way to explain away a scenario that you have not established previously is potentially a dream scenario.
Believe remember me was fine and the ending was tragic like losing someone you loved, we're talking about fate victims here not political global views
I was loving a movie years ago.. in the theatre watching michael douglas' life totally unravel... and then..... the ending. it was such a coward's way out and so bad. called The Game... brilliant.. until it actually wasn't.
Those are all great entries.
Marian Manhunter being Martha in ZSJL
Now You See Me was bad because Ruffalo's character put on his FBI act even if no one was around, which makes no sense unless it was solely for the directors to use it to hide the reveal from the audience. A good twist has to work within the reality of the film.
Twilight movie is not supposed to be in this list. It's supposed to be in Top 10 Unnecessary Movie
Spot on! 10 for 10.
When I saw Kate Winslet on thumbnail I thought it was Dressmaker. Hated it.
Reavealing that Luke and Leia are brother and sister feels forced (no pun intended), even though George Lucas might have intended it from the beginning. For me, it feels like "We really surprised the fans by revealing that Darth Vader is Luke's father. Let's do it again. How about making Leia his sister?".
Actually Lucas didn’t intend it from the beginning. Luke’s twin sister was originally planned to be a separate character and a Jedi training secretly on an undisclosed planet and the original idea for the sequel trilogy would’ve had Luke searching for his long lost twin sister. But a lot of stress resulting from personal struggles going on with balancing his film career with his married life made him scrap the sequel trilogy and try to wrap up “there is another” question fans had after Yoda first subtly hinted there was another Skywalker in The Empire Strikes Back by having it be Leia.
Hancock. Sunshine.
Does the "twist" in Hancock count as the ending, when it happened in the second act?
Where's the "Top 20 Best Supervillain Teams" video?! #WatchMojo
LOL! I haven't seen a single one of these movies!
Malice had this subplot about a serial killer who killed students at a college and collected their hair. But it had nothing to do with the main plot. Heh??
With a lot of these, the extra twist was the point.
I’m so glad that “Remember Me” was on this list! What a sloppily put together ending. I don’t mind movies using 9/11 as a subject matter. Some adaptations can be great, like “United 93.” “World Trade Center” was not the best, but at least it tried. “Remember me” is just lazy. There is no indication that Robert’s character died on 9/11/01 in one of the twin towers. It just feels exploitative and just another way to get sympathy points for bringing up 9/11 as a national tragedy. It was a tragedy that should be remembered, but how does it connect to the story at all? The ending just felt like it was sprung upon the audience. Even “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close,” which was a bit of a pretentious Oscar bait movie, mentioned the tragedy within the story in a way that made sense.
I’ve not seen Last Christmas, Serenity and Remember Me.
Don’t you dare bad mouth Now You See Me 🤬
Basic (2003) - wasn't a great movie to start with, but the multiple plot twists at the end made this one of the worst theater experiences for me
How dare you criticize Last Christmas. That movie was traumatic, but good.
Yeah the now you see me twist is so annoying 😬
Films will have to continue to deal with September 11, just like others involve wars, slavery, genocide, etc. Many films tackle subjects that were real-life tragedies. For instance, "United 93" and "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close" address 9/11 directly, but this doesn't mean that they disrespect the incident. Actually, just from the brief clips shown here, you can tell that the 9/11 reference is approached with a gentle touch.
Yes I wasn't really offended with the plot twist of the number one choice. I've read articles online about people who actually lost people closest to them on 9/11. I think one person I remember said, "Hollywood can create whatever fictional narrative they can around that day it still won't change the fact that I actually lost so and so..." Definitely not speaking for people more closely connected to this national tragedy but this imo would hardly be the most offensive way to include or talk about this event. There have been definitely way more offensive media films and documentaries that have been disrespectful to this national tragedy than a coming of age romantic drama.
@charlesgoodson5774 Remember Me did not tackle 9/11 like those others did. They used it for a cheap, tacky effect.
M Night Shyamalan is better director than Scott Buck the director of Inhumans
Breaking dawn p2 was the biggest let down iam a huge fan of twighlight at a disappointing ending
