Oh so many tips in this video. Firstly it was great to see where you actually pick up pallets and how you select the good ones. I have been guilty of just taking the whole pile, but has definitely been getting more picky lately. Also your methods of breaking down and cleaning them up are world class. I have just recently gotten the Air locker, what a difference! I was great to see how much 19 pallets can actually produce, and I can't wait to see the last magical pallet. Cheers from Denmark 🇩🇰
hey mate, just saw the chopping board video, absolutely brilliant.
Sometimes a subtle reminder is helpful😝
@@burnu2240 me too. It's a life lesson right there.
Here's a challenge, try making a full size dining room table with matching chairs with the wood
Cant wait t0 see this last magical pallet too and the stamp to see what country it came from.
Angle steel against the fence is a really slick move 👌 Great idea, thanks for passing that along, Mark!
Once again your optimism & humor restore my soul. I will point out : I leave a couple/three pieces long on each end when I’m gluing up for the snipe that sometimes shows up in my Thicknesser! When the batch are all uniform, then I trim the ends off even.
Thank you so much mate. yes, that is a good idea.. a little sacrificial extra
A neighbor remodeled their kitchen. I got all the "one time use" pallets. I have made a couple of sofa tables and other items and still have plenty of timber left. Great find.
I have to say I completely agree on working with pallets/crates. It's more challenging. It's also incredibly rewarding to see a project take shape knowing all the while, I made it with what to be garbage. I have a hobby that's rewarding in more than one way.
I'm only 6 minutes in, but I'm glad you got the expert in to explain about the timber. I've wasted countless hours researching pallet trees, to no avail. Now I know why! Given that my nearest Green Shed is a cut lunch and water bag away, I'll have to make do with that old blackbutt and jarrah shit that's been lying round for half a decade. I reckon it'll scrub up OK! Time for another beer, and the rest of the video. Cheers, Mark! Good to see Sumo's keepin' an eye on yer!
The first thing is loving what you do, no matter what it is enjoy it. I watch your video`s and see the joy you get out of woodworking with pallet's and that is what it is all about. Cheers Mark.😀
Regardless of what you're making, I love that you're making good use of these pallets which would rot otherwise - we should all be trying to recycle like this.
In my 35 years woodworking Never gave one thought to using a piece of angle iron for a straight edge. Thank you. Also nice video keep it up.
So good to watch an Aussie wood working video. I got a bit tired of the Brits and Yanks turning pencils into bowls
Just for people in the UK (I am not sure anywhere else) but the blue pallets are Chep Pallets. They are a special company that insures the pallet so if items on that pallet breaks because of that pallet they will pay out for it. The wood on them are amazing BUT they are owned so you have to check before grabbing that you can take it.
In some places, it is illegal to sell, throw away, ship to other companies or even have in your possession without the bill showing you bought these pallets. If Chep are told, they can send someone over and then send you a bill for it if it is true.
Chep here in the states too.
Yeah nah yeah! I learned this myself when I priced my first commission that you need to put a figure on your own time, and you've just shown that. Pallet wood free, but at the cost of time, however it's time doing something you enjoy so sort of balances itself out! Love your work!
What I've learnt from this video, 1. My pallet breakdown technique needs some work 2. A "thicknesser" and mitre saw would be handy tools to have 3. I also need to work on my glue technique. Thanks for the vid Mark and thanks for your tip the other day.
@@dainermade it's constant mistakes followed by learning 😆learn a new skill at 43 they said, it will be fun they said 🤣
I take them all. The good wood gets saved for projects the culls are used to keep my family warm. About 15 percent of the nails can be reused. The rest recycled.
Idk if you’ll see this but i’m a 17 year old kid from this little island in the caribbean called Trinidad, my dad used to work as a delivery guy at DHL Express and he collected a heap of pallets throughout his 18 years of service and boy oh boy did you just gave me every ounce of hope to make some cash while simultaneously learning the art of woodworking, i’ve been watching you for 2 months now and i am insanely inspired by what you do mark, love from Emilio from Trinidad❤🫡
RR
How's your woodworking journey going Emilio?
For a creative design a bench swing with two planters and lattice for a vine to travel up.
I made a pallet buster like you have with flat bar and a pipe at the rear to rotate on, I found the easiest way is remove outer edge of boards first then move into the middle and remove the middle. The boards lift if the middle is off first but the middle you have both sides of your pallet buster to lift it off and it's even pressure.
I'm glad someone can do something with pallets. I've only worked on disassembling a few and hate them. Of course I didn't have that tool.
Harvestasion. Deconstructivization. Straightenasation. Thicknesserizationing. Gluerizing. Slaberifying. Cutttingtheendofftidying. Moneytization. Now you need to makerfy something. How about going back to your valued customers that already bought a hallway table and make them some shelves to match. Could you imagine slicing the slab like a loaf of bread. Lean all these slices over at 45 degrees and glue them back together again. That would make a triangular bumpy slab. Then you cut it like you were going to put a burger in a bun and you have 2 shelves with a flat top and a decorative triangular pattern underneath. Watched this mesmerising video three times at least. Mark keep safe from the typhoons and can't wait to hear about 20.
Plantation shutters!! We are going to make them of pallet wood and we would love to know what to keep in mind
Way to get after it Mark! Thanks for documenting your time put into every step. I agree with you on is it worth the time. I think in this crazy world we live in so many people are focused on money as there only form of happiness. I can truly say that putting in the work on something that brings yourself happiness is the best form of payment there is. Looking forward to that 20th pallet build! Cheers!
@@dainermade take your time on the 20th. Some things are worth the wait!!
The only videos I haven’t and absolutely will never get sick of ❤ Love the vids keep up the good work
I got those clamps after seeing Ben's video and use them every day now. I've even drilled a glory hole in the middle of my bench so I can hold things down from both sides with them! Great video.
I look just casually at your pallet selection and I noticed what great condition they're in. It's important to start with the best product possible, even when the product is "free", when you're going to end up spending/investing soooooo much additional time into preparation. I live within a few hours of many small lumber yards that produce lots of different types of lumber for various purposes. Sometimes it's easier to get supplies from those guys, than it is to find 25 "perfect" (or at least mostly usable.) pallets.
I've started getting picky on pallets as well, although I work in a business district that many places leave their pallets by the road. It's easy to drive through the area every couple days and grab 2-4 pallets at a time.
My favorite part of these videos is probably how gracefully you dance party around the shop, mate! Lol thanks for the video!
Love the excitement and joy you have in your craft! thank you for making informative and enjoyable videos :)
This has easily become my favorite video. As always, looking forward to the next.
Great video, and I like some of the tactics you use (the straight rip sled is a great speed enhancement over my regular sled). I have gravitated to cast-off furniture to get raw materials instead of pallets because they need less processing overall. The look is a little different, but I like it.
I already love this video. Great tips on getting good pallets!
Awesome demonstration, what a class act sharing this hard earned knowledge with us. Thanks for the translation as well Mark, definitely needed for us poms.
Just found your channel. Absolutely awesome!
Love your work mate. Keep it coming
Great video Mark
Great video. Teaching, showing, tips.
I love the jmpscare at 0:15 lol
you can make dining tables and benches as i have seen them often being used in restaurants and they look cool in with lighter colours
I found another 5 bags of pallets this weekend, It was like finding gold, I've just started on a different site and they are about to have 106 pallets of bricks delivered, champion, excellent vid as usual
@@dainermade Harry Potter isn't the only wizard from oxford
I work at a paper company so I have access to lots of pallets, which I’ve used for years to make stuff. I get to high grade them and use the work truck to take them home. Recently I was picking up pallets from the pallet mill itself because we sell them retail to customers. Anyway I saw a large pile of wood and it looked like scrap. I asked the guy loading me and he said I could have all I want, they just grind them and sell the chips for fuel. So now I get my wood without having to break down pallets. That’s my tip. Find a pallet mill and see if they will allow you to take scraps. Good stuff man. You definitely make the most of those pallets. Cheers!
Fantastic, can't wait to see what they become (and what's under the blanket...). I'm glad to see you chopped off your spatula. I tried the spatula thing but quickly switched to dough scrapers because they're not rounded. Thanks for brightening my morning, Mark! Now I'm off to order those quick clamps...
Agh - there's no link!! Madly googles "Ben's video+clamps+quick release+..." Help!
Bessey ratcheting clamp - gotcha! But who's Ben?
Super job! 🙌🏻
Bill and Ted would both agree, Excellent my dude! Subscribed!
How had I not thought of/seen the angle iron instant straight edge trick before? Genius. Thanks.
As always, very informative and entertaining :-) I love to break down pallets but I’ve always been scared of hitting a nail. I have very minimal tools.
Love this video Mark. 10/10 dude
Great video you do make it look so easy
Subscribed mate! Great to see a fellow Aussie making awesome content 😉
I'm In love with your work and videos mate
Great job and video thanks for sharing enjoyed it Cheers
The pallet whisperer Love the slide !
Great Video!!! Thank you!
You could sell the thin unwanted bits as kindling instead of sending it to landfill!
Nice one again, Mark. Jammed pack with so many useful tips! I have dismantled around 5 pallets, all waiting for glue up! On the blue pallets, I learned that they are owned by CHEP, and shouldnt be used (or they can sue you or something to that effect)
I like your energy. Keep it going mate!
Another Great Vid Mark, Can't wait to see the 20th Pallet, And what your going to do with it
Hi Mark, as usual highly informative and yes inspirational, collecting pallets for a while know and have to agree heaps of pine out there harder wood is harder to find 😅😅pardon the pun but when you score a real beauty like I did last week 5.4mt of merbau you think struck GOLD, what a beauty. Thanks Mark for a great vid. P. S. Wish I could slide across the floor again. Cheers
So much good info, loved the expert hahaha gold!
Ha ha, timber guru was great, glad all that is cleared up. I known more now than I did before
Yeah nah! 😂 Loads of useful info in there, great vid Dainsy, cheers mate!! Catch you in the new year!
I like your energy. Just a fun guy making cool things.
Epic video!
Definitely worth it. I'll have to do a pallet run myself in the spring I think.
Well just fyi, I use a reciprocating saw with a metal cutting blade and get between the boards and cut the boards , makes taking apart pallets almost effortless, now the nails do stay in the wood but you can disassemble one in like 5 mins if not quicker.
I'm in Brisbane. What I'd like is someone to sit under my house with me, drink my beer, eat my food, and give me a enough confidence to know that I'm on the right tack and that it's worth me doing something like this, by knocking out a couple of things and getting them sold. I've got all the tools (with the exception of a planer/thicknesser, and some are even hand me downs from my father-in-law) but lack the confidence to sit under the house and work away. (I mean, if I could get a start, then I'd happily work away by myself.)
Most excellent video
LOVE TO SEE IT MARK!
Staying tuned for the final rocking horse shit pallet!!!
Some guy brilliant
Been waiting for this one
Mate, you're almost inspiring me to get back out in the shed now that it's not quite as cold anymore. Almost! ;)
You are the uncrowned Pallet King! Keep well hydrate and keep those fans hummin' 👍
@@dainermade If you do it right, one bag for in and one bag for out. That way you can work without interruption 🤣
With my job I have access to many types of pallets. Brought home a beautiful cedar one recently.
HI. I love the video's thankyou. I have a question...what is the white stuff that you seem to spread all over the wood??
Got some awesome hardwood from absolutely smashed blue pallets. Never say no.
good vibes
Hey, I'm coming from Jesper's recommendation. Awesome information to have and great work
At this point… I like your videos as soon as I hit play…
Thanks
Good on ya Mark! Love the laughs! 😂😂 bloody good tips and insight to the real cost of doing recycling of your pallets. Looks like a good little app.
@@dainermade funny enough I will probably watch that as well 😂😂
Thanks for the great video. Where can I find directions for the pallet buster?
well 40 mins with that set up. starting out it will take longer but still fun
Mate...bloody brilliant! Enough said....BOOM!! 👍👍🇦🇺😁
Merci beaucoup pour la vidéo 📼 c'est vraiment super
So all those skinny scraps would make great bundles of kindling. Cut them about 12” make a 6” in diameter bundle. Save them all spring summer and fall, then for winter sell them to your local shops with a QR code to your website(additional marketing benefit). Use all the money to buy your shop new toys.
ive just come across your channel and ive fell in love with your content. Can i ask is it possible to use a hand planer if you dont have access to a bigger one like you do? also have you ever done any chopping boards?
pallet punter back in town! love the steel angle idea dude, so simple!
@@dainermade Just like Simple Jack, you muh-muh-muh-make me happy 😆😆
Love the vids. I’m inspired. Curious with your new straight edge jig with the different clamps, could you not rip multiple pieces at once and save your self some rips? Just a curious guy
You’ve got kind of “the dude” vibes and I like it
Mark, I just loooove your little anecdotes haha. they are soo wild haha.
You glue from left to right and the start again, if you glue up on the reverse journey too, you'll half the time of your glue ups
Great channel mate. Started watching your newer stuff then clicked on some of your older stuff and thought wtf whos this guy 😂🤣😂🤣
Cool mate 👌
great video
I've been saying for years. 'Australian' is a different language! And when you have a famous guest star, it proves my point. Your guest today did not speak the same 'dialect' of Australian that you do.
`Great vid Mark! I've been stalking your channel for a while and am about to start unashamedly ripping your ideas off :) It's been about 30 years since I last did anything in the way of woodworking but your videos have inspired me to have a crack using pallet wood to relearn. It also doesn't hurt that I can afford good tools now!! Thanks for all your content, as seeing an Aussie doing this sort of stuff is soooo much more enjoyable than yet another American
can you make a back yard picnic table with those pallets?
Love your stuff, but how about getting your mate to explain those aussie timbers again in slow time and a bit more detail. Thanks
Hard yakka Mark! Loved your waterfall table vid. It really helped me with a turntable/vinyl collection display stand type thing I had to make with chunky pine and mitrered dowelled corners. I even went so far as to chamferize it 🤣
@@dainermade 😆 No worries
