  • What a fighter and inspiring man MJ Fox is! It's hard to believe that he's been diagnosed three decades (!) ago and then goes on stage and delivers such a great 13-minute speech - even taking his shaking hand with humor. His achievement in funding Parkinson's research goes way beyond any honor in existence.

    • People in this day and age say "aw, these guys were just 80s famous" like it's something to denigrate, but they don't understand just what a thing that was. Fame really meant something back then, not like today when everybody and their dog is reality tv and social media famous.

  • His speech was incredible. He was funny, factual and vulnerable. He moved me to tears as he spoke about his life, especially after Parkinson's disease. I can't believe how much his son looks like him. They should do a movie about him and his struggle. It would be inspirational.

  • Brilliant speech. Those of us who grew up in the 80's remember 80's famous. Michael has achieved a lot in life, some of the most memorable movies ever made. A loving family and a wonderful wife. But you don't realise until you hear him talk what a cracking sense of humour he has. This speech was both funny and moving. He has met Parkinson's head on, and it does not, and has not, ever defined who he is. Michael is still the same person he always was, and his willingness to help others is a testament to who he is as a person. Good man

    • A movie he made when he was young, several people who worked on the movie later developed Parkinson’s, which leads to believe that there might be an environmental connection, especially since he was so young when he was diagnosed, not even 30. Parkinson’s usually doesn’t start showing symptoms until patients are in their 60’s

    • Thank you for your vulnerability in your comment. Most of us live our lives distracted with entertainment or chores and not thinking about the temporary nature of our lives-almost thinking we are eternal creatures. But in reality everyone from young people to elderly people are vulnerable to death. It’s a reality that death is part of life just as birth is. I guess knowing we will eventually die can make us treat ourselves and others with compassion and kindness. We can appreciate our lives more knowing the fleeting nature of it. Happy Holidays to you Emmanuel

    • Death is a great compassion. My only 'problem' is how little time we have. I think 200 years or even 300 is a good lifetime period for a person to have, 80/90 years is just not enough imo. but living here forever? nah, I wouldn't want that.

The prognosis was "he'll never wake up". He did. Then, " he'll never talk". He did with great difficulty. Then, " he'll never walk". He did with great difficulty. Then, he won't be able to take care of himself". He did. And not only that, he returned to university in our town and earned his doctorate and for years he was tenured mathematics professor. He was killed riding his inline bicycle on the way to campus a few years ago. He was an amazing guy and I admired him and I will always tell people about him. We were fast friends to the end. Fox seemed to creep in some of the research as I was deep diving this disease and learning. I just finally came across this video and it brought tears to my eyes. Hes suffered through this horrid disease along time, he was as he said unsure of its progression, it was very fast for my father (15 yrs), it was soul, spirit, mind, and emotionally crushing, MJ Fox has such humor and grace dealing with it, he gave me hope, and he is a inspiration. Im so glad he has such wonderful powerful support, end stage Parkinson's is not anything I wish anyone to have to go through, and the family having to watch the final rapid decline.

What a beautiful, touching, tribute to the will and resolve of mankind to better the future for our posterity. If only every acceptance speech echoed these same selfless virtues-we’d be cured.

  • I’m 46 now. Born and raised in Copenhagen; Denmark. I have never been the type of guy who had heroes or idols… expect one guy. This guy. Mr Michael J Fox. It’s hard to explain why you become a lifelong fan of a person you haven’t meet, but I did. My friends idols back in the 80ties/90ties where the cool guys such as Michael Jordan, Will Smith, Eddie Murphy, Tyson, Sly or Jim Carrey. My man was first Axel P Keaton, later McFly, later Mike Flaherty…but always Michael J Fox. I’m not sure I can explain this to my son (17 years old), but MJF is still the person in the world i want to meet the most for a coffee. Take care everyone.

  • Michael is a beautiful example of someone who was dealt a difficult situation but who chose to find good mentors and leaders and made joy and light in a dark place. I have a feeling we are going to celebrate Michael not as the beautiful soul who entertained us but as the one who helped humanity find the cure to this debilitating disease. His humor, candor, and heart are his greatest attributes, and we are all blessed by his courageous life.
