CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Kate (Meg Ryan) joins Leopold (Hugh Jackman) in the 19th Century just in time for him to announce their marriage.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Filmmaker James Mangold follows his Oscar-winning drama Girl, Interrupted (1999) with this whimsical fantasy. Meg Ryan stars as Kate McKay, a modern female executive in New York City whose drive to succeed in the cutthroat corporate world has left little time for romance. When her genius ex-boyfriend Stuart (Liev Schreiber) opens a portal in time, the experiment transports Leopold (Hugh Jackman) from 1867 to the present day. A charming bachelor and the royal "Third Duke of Albany" in his own time, Leopold is fascinated by the 21st century. As the courtly Leopold and the decidedly liberated Kate tour the town, a mutual attraction develops into something deeper, a relationship that's threatened by Leopold's temporary chronological status. Kate & Leopold (2001) was originally developed by co-screenwriter Steve Rogers as a project for star/producer Sandra Bullock, who had a hit with his film Hope Floats (1998).

It's a great ending but does anyone else want to see what happens AFTER this moment? How Kate adjusts to her new life in the past and the restrictive social constructs of the times as a duchess. Especially considering she was an independent woman of the 20th century with technology?
And not to mention his great-great-grandson is her ex-boyfriend making her his great-great-grandmother. Just eww.
But what if Kate didn’t get in the house in time before He announced his engagement to the other woman what would happen to Kate then ?
She dies of small pox and regrets everything...haha
I have imagined a sequel of this. That Stuart improves his work on time travel. So the 21st century people can visit the 19th century. Kate and Leopold visit modern New York. Stuart marries the lovely Gretchen, the nurse who was moved to tears by his time travel reflections,, because she believed in him.. Kate and Leopold can have success with him inventing elevators etc and she has the savvy to put his inventions out there to be well-received despite a baffled and unimpressed uncle. There are kids too! 😊❤
that's quite lovely!@@BarbaraPryor-Smith
Theres a warmth in older movies that todays just don't have
That’s so true. I don’t know what the new movies are trying or doing, but they’re missing something.
Yes. Totally agree with you.
ambams1 Most movies that I watch are from the fourth and fifties and sometimes from the thirty’s . If you like warmth try a few of them.
Okay boomer
@ambams1 That warmth is the fever overtaking you since there weren't any antibiotics. R.I.P.
Leopold is the kind of guy every man should aspire to be like, a true kindhearted gentleman. Most guys today think acting like this is "gay" but it's simply being a refined man that any women would love to date.
@Crimson, yes, agree, he is a true gentleman, and respectful. Today's men lack that and women act even worse.
Look up the School of Honor You will not be disappointed
No woman today would date with a well educated gentleman. They prefer wimps.
@@angelrogo they prefer bad guy like Wolverine than gentleman like Cyclops....
That’s because most girls/women don’t appreciate a man like Leopold
It's not the clothes that are important--they're just a lovely frill. It's Leopold's gentleness, considerateness and romantic gestures that make him so appealing. Those traits have no connection to sexual preference, but I promise you, based on 42 happy years, that they do make for along and enchanting life together!
Hugh Jackman is so fantastic in this role, that I always hoped that he would be in many more of these ‘in past times’ movies. He is brilliant as this English Duke.
Ugh this is my favorite movie 🎥 before he was wolverine he was.. LEOPOLD Duke of Albany😭
There was an English duke in this? I must've missed that.
if you want to see him in a period piece film, watch The Prestige
"Having stuffed her handbag with modern analgesics and penicillin, Kate leapt out to follow her love"
Also a couple of History textbooks.
"...after she went back to get the Encyclopedia of Professional Sports."
@@josettejordan1525 idk I think they said the time portal will close for very long time.
Whoever designed her dress did a fantastic job of making it interesting and luxe for today, while also making it believable that she could get into the party back then.
Ahw it was kinda funny how herself and Leopold were meant to be together.
1:22 Kirsten Schall's face is priceless. Gotta love that dreamy smile of Hugh's in the end swoon.
I love Otis’s expression when they say I love you. He has no idea who this woman is, but took a chance. In that moment it’s a combination of love like a parent would feel knowing their child has found their soul-mate, while still trying to keep things rolling for them. Classic. All this while his uncle is still standing with his mouth open. Also, she would never have known about Otis and gotten in the door, unless Leopold was the kind of guy who treated his butler as family.
Look at her smile in the last scene ..she was happy ..happy moŕe than the scene acting ...happiness out side the acting ...sure she loved him ...kate was a dream in my life ...
All those girls was hating lmao
😂😂
Especially the one in the brown gown; she had a very bitchy look on her face.
@@nicholaslawrence6926 Yeah she did
1:51 The moment when the music begins and Hugh Jackman smiles
If you ever see some of the deleted scenes,it will explain that she was there when he was suppose to announce his original wedding plans, but he left the house to chase after Stewart.Watch it and you'll see the connection.Somehow it all makes sense.Did for me!
Love this movie, it's from my childhood. Sweet light days
“Time has no dominion over love. Love is the one thing that transcends time."
Kristen looks very young in this movie. She still has the same face and she looks really beautiful. This was Kristen Schaal's first movie to star in before anyone knew who she is.
True this was her movie debut.I really loved Kate & Leopold. So underrated...NO ONE ever talks about it. Its my favourite Hugh Jackman movie.
Well she was 23
She forgot the sports almanac.
Both Kate And Leopold are in The 19th Century and I can still feel it. 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
my best friend is 63,teaches acting in college and studied Shakespeare for a living and he is married. He adores this kind of thing and is straight as an arrow. Are you stereotyping this kind of thing or what?!
I love happy endings.....there should be more of them.
i think you said everything. Most women today would kill to find a guy with these kind of values and morals.Anyone that thinks this kind of guy is gay can kiss my ass.I would die to find a guy with this kind of proper upbringing.
The vast majority of women prefer pimps instead of gentlemen.
@@angelrogouh oh a "nice guy alert"
Uh the Duke is a complete fantasy sure there were great men back then but the values on what they expected of women are problematic trust u don't want your average 18th century guy
That was when Kate and Leopold corrected the original time mistake and reunited in the time they were suppose to be at.
Beautiful waltz at the end. I wish it was longer.
I love how awkward Meg Ryan And Hugh Jackman are in the end as if to say ah why is everybody staring at us for. Oh well lets dance.
True cause Leopold chose Kate as his bride. I enjoyed this movie.
+Jan96106 Yeah, I always wish in a lot of romcoms that they would show a little beyond ending with a kiss or a wedding. It would be nice to just see a little bit of the character's lives afterwards, what happened to them, etc. It wouldn't have to be long but, I guess most of the films are like that and won't add on. oh well
Vesper True it would have been cute to see Kate marrying Leopold but I was a bit sad that it ended with the two of them dancing and that was it.
WE NEED A PART 2....MEG IN THE OLDEN DAYS...
Dude gets opportunity to marry Kristen Schaal, blows it. Nothing against Meg Ryan, but Kristen Schaal is wonderful and hilarious.
Seen this on DVD last night. Not gonna lie but this film was enjoyable and hilarious. Ahw man if only Hugh Jackman starred in more rom coms than action flicks. Me: WOW Meg Ryan chooses Wolverine over her career. GO MEG!!??
Yes i agree
I just finished watching this movie on Showtime movie network a great ending love this movie classic
Ohh I just loove this film soo much and especially thus last scene is soo exciting and intriiging! :'D I love you Hugh!! :'D Best romantic film ever :')) xxx
I been living in Massapequa since 1960, I have yet to find her in Massapequa. My doors always open Meg Ryan, drop by anytime at all.
I THINK I HEARD SHE IS LIVING IN MANHATTAN. PENTHOUSE. ...WITH HER DAUGHTER, DAISY TRUE FROM. CHINA OR SOUTH KOREA....
Such a dream!!! Love this so much!!! I hope I find someone who looks at me like that! :) I think I’ve watched this clip about 100+ times! Sooooo Good!😍
I still hold my breath every time, hoping she will make it XD Once I find the man of my dreams I am going to sew these costumes
Have you found the man of your dreams? Pls tell me yes....
I wish I could dance, I would love to dance with Hugh Jackman.
My favorite part... Hugh Jackman is my favorite actor!!!!
1:53 it's odd the ending like beauty and the best haha
A lot of men are True Kindhearted Gentleman, its just that they don't all look like Hugh Jackman. Is it the refined man that so enthralls you or the refined tall dark and stunningly handsome man?
Exactly!
It’s a movie. It’s a visual medium. Everyone is attractive. Even the girl Hugh doesn’t marry, the spoiled rich character played by Kristen Schaal, is a little cute. Personally, I find Kate’s ex, the crazy scientist, to be the best looking guy in the movie. Like, get over it man.
@Rebecca Rider This was in response to a comment on here, not the film itself. This was written 9 years ago. I think it's safe to say that we have all got over it but thank you for your swift response none the less.
"Love is space and time measured by the heart" ... Marcel Proust
So classic so very much younger.....
make the part 2. 20 years already have gone ;)
I am glad that Leopold was able to marry for Love and not Money in the end. At the end of the day Love will always be worth more than the Money.
Bet he made a killing as an inventor once he went back a hundred years.
Haha Kate chose Wolverine over Sabertooth. 😁🤣🤣🤣 Love this movie
Meg Ryan was like 40 years old in this movie. Yet she looked incredible and able to play the romantic lead. Why she though she needed plastic surgery idk. It's such a bummer. She used to be beautiful
Cute Movie! I read somewhere that Sandra Bullock was supposed to play Kate originally but, I think there was a scheduling conflict. I think I would've liked her better in this role. For some reason, idk why, Meg Ryan didn't seem as charming in this one as she usually is, but that's just me...still a nice movie though!
+Vesper Yeah imagine Sandra Bullock in this film. She would be Ok i suppose.
I Think Meg did a good job. She is good in romantic movies. Sleepless in Seattle and you got mail 😀
I agree for some reason Meg Ryan wasn't as adorable and sweet as in her other movies. However, there were glimpses of charm in certain parts. Overall I did like her in this. And the movie was enjoyable
Awww havent seen this in soo long!!
Jan96106....I agree with you I loved the music of the waltz.
i'm glad they left out of the final cut that leopald was stewarts ancestor. meaning stewart dated and probably was intimate with his great great (however many) grandmother. eeeeek
GREAT. I love it so much,....
I wouldn't be happy living in a different time era as mine not even the future. It would freak me out. I'd miss my surroundings too much. It would be sad to know it's either not invented/made yet (past) or it doesn't exist anymore (future). We were all born when we needed too.
God what song is it in the end I've been looking for it EVERYWHERE
A parte ruim é quando o filme termina Amo! Não canso de rever ❣
I love this movie.
+Christine Gruenberg Same here. I think its a very underrated film. I loved it for its genre and of course the male lead Hugh Jackman. I was also a fan of Meg Ryan since I was a kid. Even though this ending is kinda silly but I thought it was cute. It had this Cinderella vibe to it.
+Disney65Fan I like time travel movies. There are always things they could have done different, but all around it's a pretty good movie and I enjoy watching it.
Christine Gruenberg Same here I always watch the original cut and not the directors cut as I only seen the directors cut once.
thanks for clearing that up Thia. :)
a long ways from wolverine
On that note, Wolverine would probably have also been alive during the setting (1876?) of this scene. Also, it's interesting that Wolverine and Sabretooth are both in this movie : )
Hugh Jackman hit the jackpot with this movie with the Golden Globe nomination. And he was so appealing to all types of audiences as this character, but, Wolverine character destroyed his abilities and made him limited.
Happy ending !!! Love it.
After all of these years i couldnt control my tears ..and in my age also
This is romntically beautiful
Wow i live this film much
Esse filme é lindo
BRAVO!!!
A Happy Ending.
i so have to buy this movie!!
素晴らしい! 名作の1つ
Meg i was in love with you ...many years ....and i still...i cant keep my tears
From Baron Leopold to The Wolverine, What a Career
Oh and Paxton Whitehead is in this movie. If anyone remembered Animaniacs: Wakko's Wish, he was the king who wanted The Warner Siblings dead before reaching up to the wishing star. Interesting to know about that right? "Goodnight Everybody" -Yakko.
Love it
OK... So he didn't even need to ask for the lady's hand, merely announcing her as the future Duchess of Albany just like that?
lanxnguyen Heh, she traveled back in time to be with him. What was she going to do, in that period, be his mistress?
lanxnguyen Heh, she traveled back in time to be with him. What was she going to do, in that period, be his mistress?
claytoaj :) I didn't mean it to be anything remotely negative. I know it went without saying for them.
lanxnguyen Well if you watch it where Leopold and Kate were listening to Moon River he was trying to propose to her. So yeah he didn't know who he would marry but thanks to some time travelling Kate was the one he was suppose to marry in the end since she was in the photo Stuart took. MAN this film was so romantic and so corny and cute. me at the end: THANK CHRIST but hey now she can wear dresses now and corsets and know about the technology.
Well, if she's standing in the middle of his 19th century ballroom, then she has left her brother, her friends, her job and her whole life to time-travel back to him. If she doesn't want to be the Duchess of Albany just as soon as possible, why else would she be there?
Amazing
Love Is Magical ❤️❤️
La quiero ver completa y en español
for the 100 time i watched this part to see her real smile while she was dancing with him >>>it was a real woman smile >>>>>not acting
it was the first time I saw hugh jackman
And I thought it he was British Haha. Damn it Hugh
Porque no la suben en castellano
This is my favorite romantic comedy, but... Stuart mentions Leopold is his great grandfather. And it turns out Kate was always his wife. They had kids... but Stuart dated her for years. Soooo... wasn't he having relations with his great grandma?
What's the song at the end? I've heard it before.
STING. SONG THE SONG...ITS HIS MASTERPIECE
What's the name of the song!! It's so beautiful !!!
The music for this scene is called , from the movie soundtrack itself. Unfortunately, the waltz at the end (which everyone loves!) is only a part of the track.
Alireza, it us by Sting, called 'until' and it won Golden Globe that year for best song.
poor Mabel
jaguar4u2012 Everyone breaking her heart since Tourist Trapped
did she ask the Time Travel Guy to go into Victorian era to meet a Cunt? I mean count? lol
Hold on. It has been almost 2decades but why Hugh Jackman doesnt age? 😶
Money money money 💸
Question....How did Stuart know about the opening off the bridge to begin with??
George Corbul he was a dog that saw a rainbow
Something to do with the elevator shaft?
Cute movie :)
Wolverine married Sabertooth's ex girlfriend
Bendiciones
I mean bright days
The extras sealed the deal… can you imagine a stunning blonde (much less Meg Ryan?!) appearing from thin air to steal the coveted bachelor from the pool of eligible ladies??! Hehehe, the stuff of romcom legends. Pull the camera back/out to leaveya craning to peer over & thru the crowd for more…😍🎥👏 Perfect ending.
Music...Space...Time
what's the significance of the clock being at 12:15?
I think it means that the portal has now closed or else I think its because Kate is now Duchess of Albany.
I pay my life for a smile like that one 1.53 ....
Hugh looks So young.
IT NEEDS A PART 2
This is on Watch @ 10:40 tonight. Too bad I don't have the channel.
Miss Tree disliked this! Shame on her!
could anyone please name the waltz
This is on TV on Channel 5 @12:40 on Sunday. I really enjoyed this movie.
Soooooo....she is Stuart great-great-grandma. Stuart who lives in flat above his great-great greatuncle's. Wibbly wobbly.....
THEY SHOWED AN OUT TAJE. ABOUT THAT. WHEN THEY WERE HURRYING TO THE BRIDGE BEFORE. THE. LEAP OF LIVE...HER LOOK ON HER FACE. WAS PRICELESS...WHOA...WATCH THE OUT TAKES WHEN YOU BUY. THE MOVIE ...ITS WORTH IT
@@lindaroiser6906 why are you shouting though?
oh well there goes future kate is going to change everything unless her neighbour upstairs tells her how not change some timeline
how is this end practical? how does she leave 21st century to go to 18th century? how will she ever survive there? is there a provision to go to future again?
It's a movie. Don't loose sleep by thinking too Much about it. Imagine She Lives the rest of her life very happy.
Shambhavi Chaturvedi Yeah I don't think she'll be able to survive considering the first time he sees her she was really upset over a piece of technology. She was too attached to things of her time era at the start of the film. So I can't imagine how crazy she'll go without things she was used to having.
He’s a rich duke she will be ok
TIME ⏳
Loved Hugh Jackman in this. The movie's plot is really good, in general, but the role of Kate (Meg Ryan does a great job.), is hard for me to accept. Shes mean to her ex-boyfriend (who she broke up with a while ago apparently); she's pushy & got mad at Leopold for having values & not wanting to do a commercial on something he didn't think was worth his endorsement, & was trying to bully him into doing it. She's just very self-centered and although she seems to soften a bit later on, I don't believe it's enough, nor lasting. What he sees in her, I couldn't figure out.
I still want to know what she said to Otis to get in the door!!!
yes, Leopold must have briefly told Otis about his adventure in the future, so Otis must be knowing who she is..
I'd say she said this Kate: Are you Otis Otis: Yes Kate: Look I know I sound desperate but there is this guy... Otis: Leopold Kate: Yes Otis: Alright enter.
Ending of Kate & Leopold same like Anastasia's ending because Meg Ryan
I don't even like chick flix that much but I have a thing for this movie
christy capers This is a guilt pleasure of mine. DAMN it Hugh Jackman is one gorgeous film. I love the Cinderella vibe to this film.
I WISH. THEY WOULD HONIR TIS M O VIE WITH A PART 2...AND MAYBE PART 3 WITH OFFSPRING
The director’s version puts a different spin on this...
