  • Absolutely love the sandbox concept. I know it's not for everyone but it's a innovative take on a set by Lego. They probably should have included pieces to cover up that bat-shaped hole so that those who want a dust-free, enclosed box could have it. Price is way too high even for a licensed set, so I'd say this is probably similar to a UCS set: buy it if you love the IP, otherwise don't bother.

    • @@h2owl205 The issue isn't laziness, it's that stickers often both look worse and won't last as long as printed components. If I'm paying $400+ for a display piece, I want it to look as good as possible without worrying about stickers peeling or fading over time.

      @henrirobbins2343@henrirobbins234311 ай бұрын
    • @@henrirobbins2343 this narrative of “stickers don’t last long” needs to be stopped. I’ve been building Lego sets for the better part of 18 years now, and still have sets built and on display for about 15 years. Not once have I ever had a sticker wear away or peel off on its own. Based on my experience and hearing others complain, I’m left to assume the people experiencing issues with sticker longevity comes down to user error. Either y’all are leaving entire edges hanging off of parts or don’t know how to apply a sticker without getting a ton of hair/dust/crumbs/air bubbles stuck underneath. Additionally, prints have a tendency to not be opaque enough, especially on darker colored parts or even extremely scratched up. Imo, stickers do not lessen the value of premium product feeling of sets at all. Y’all just love being over dramatic about everything. Besides, there are very rational reasons as to why Lego doesn’t print all their decorations. Look them up. Just because you might not agree with their reasons doesn’t mean their invalid either.

      @h2owl205@h2owl20511 ай бұрын
    • @@sergeitarakanov4705because Lego always does a superb job with color matching prints right? Please tell me more about how lego is completely incapable of matching the plastic color when printing on windshields. Or how they cannot print lighter colors onto darker colored pieces without it looking extremely faded. I never claimed stickers were perfect, but the amount of grown ass adults that get their panties in a twist over some adhesive paper makes being a fan of this hobby quite frankly embarrassing. And please, miss me with that “well if I’m paying ‘x’ amount of money then…” argument because it’s a total straw man argument because you’d be saying the exact same thing if you got all prints and they were all low quality.

  • I bought this set the day it was released directly from lego. Even used VIP discount to knock the price down a little. I am a fan of the '89 and '92 Burton Batman films as they were right when I was a kid getting into superheroes. I thoroughly enjoyed the building of this set and I endorse Lego to make more shadow box sets, either more from the DC theme or others, as long as they all have really interesting features and fun playability. Because of this set I have gone back to purchase the (now retired) 1989 Batwing set from an ebay seller. Building Lego sets themed around my fandoms just brings me joy. Subscribed today, and really look forward to future videos from yourself and new sets from Lego.

  • The thing i like about legos is that if you look at them as finite modular building pieces and the fun and challenge with them is to see what you can do/build with them. Which is the original intent of legos; being creative with them. Finest example of this approach is the typewriter, very elegant and realistic looking.

  • I think this needed more gray pieces on the interior because the Batman outline is hard to see with the darkness of the box while closed, but the saving grace is that this can open up into an almost straight line to be displayed, which allows light to enter and show off the design. I didn’t like how the LEGO had it halfway opened in the box art, because I thought it would be only displayable open halfway. (10:53 vs 1:28)

  • I think putting this set side by side with Rivendell and Lion Knight's Castle was the nail in the coffin for me. Initially when I saw this set I thought it was great but as I see and learn more about it I'm so much less enthused. I understand it's definitely a display piece but so is Rivendell and look what you get there. Something like 20 minifigs and it's modular to make separate scenes. Another issue for me is comparing it to the 60's tv show Batcave they did years ago (which I have). Batmobile, batcopter, batcycle, 9 minifigs and it was modular with three separate sections and is a truly amazing Batcave setup. All that in 2500 pieces, 1400 less than this set. Would it be safe to say those extra 1400 pieces all go into the box? I'd be interested to find out the answer. I think had they used this concept and somehow made the front of the box able to accommodate the batwing, and added another 4-5 minifigs, I'd be able to give it a full thumbs up. As it is I've slipped into feeling a bit "meh" about it.

If it was a ‘deeper’ build, as in a more spacious cave, then it might be worth that price. Also, Batman Returns (and even 89) have okay looking caves, but the Batman Forever cave, Animated Series cave, and Dark Knight Trilogy cave(s) would have been better picks, imo

    • This is nowhere close to being as good as the Cantina. It's not even an actual batcave, it's a briefcase.

  • I want lego to produce more Batman sets but based on the Arkham games. How incredible would that be (it will drain my savings) 😅

  • Great review. When it's opened up how long is it from end to end? Also how many lite bricks are in the set? Thanks.

  • Honestly , I love the shadow box look. For someone who has a modern interior . It really fits the modern approach . I always found the regular Lego set looks kind of gimmick and not modern enough …. If that makes any sense . The sense of reveal and the unassuming interior is so unique . I would proudly display this in my living room without it looking to childish . It is defiantly one of the more sophisticated looking Lego set .

  • IMO this is creatively one of the best Lego sets... possibly in decades. Lego sets - at least the most adult geared ones tend to be big and bulky. If you are a collector, then its an ongoing challenge to find space & display. This can easily become wall art for scale, display and interest. The fact that you can open up and play, in itself is a huge bonus given the design concept. It captures the world of Batman and the color scheme of the Batcave with the darkness beautifully. Is it pricey... Sure! But so is everything Lego now. This set is defining as it could be the start of a new range of themed display sets. Imagine a few of these on walls of shelves! Yes dust! But that's bane of all Lego sets. This one is easy to secure and protect without elaborate casing. For me, this is just scratching the surface of what Lego can potentially do in the future. Its sleek, modern and brings a new versatility to its range not seen in a very long time. Well done Lego and specifically to its designer for thinking that the box itself would be "out of the box"!
