No doubt. People are wow’d by the punches but his footwork for the HW division especially is …. Almost supernatural. Paul D’Amato and Tyson together were something truly special. As soon as he died the fucking vultures descended. But yeah man. His ability to get on the inside while rarely taking a straight shot is insane. Every movement was optimized for maximum damage.

Rocky Marciano had 49 wins in 49 professional fights & retired at age 31 undefeated. The only heavyweight champion with a perfect record. He was smart enough to quit before he started to slow down from age and decline. The guy was a killer, just like Tyson.

Tyson fights more like Marciano then any other fighter. Look at their styles, you can see the inspiration. Lotta people don't know (I'm sure you do) how much of a student and historian Mike has always been. He was studying them as an early teenager. He knows boxing like Em knows rap.

Not only was iron mike a monster in the ring he was highly skilled, great footwork and defensive boxing. Nearly every fight he was the smaller man and shorter reach but because his technique was so great it didn’t matter, he was inside his opponent’s guard in the blink of an eye.

Mike in his prime was a MONSTER, he said it best: Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth. He had speed, stamina, strength and the killer instinct. I can't see anyone defeating him unless they win the mindgame before the fight. Sadly Mike was used and abused by so many people that his career was cut short.

Mike Tyson was not just the best knockout artist I had seen, but being in 6th grade at this time his KOs were truly frightening. I was legit scared of this man. The fact that he was also a near unbeatable boss, probably the first based on a real person, in a video game that I had, just elevated him to a mythical status of pure destruction in my young mind.

Watch his body mechanics. He’ll duck a punch but at the same time he’s spring loading his weight into his front leg then he explodes not only lunging forward but how he rotates his punch through the torque of his hip rotation. I’ve studied fighting my whole life & modeled my own lunging hook from watching Tyson. Not that I was in his league but every time it connected, lights out in London. So much power being generated.

I mean record isnt everything,,,,Sugar Ray Robinson is a legend for sure though...I mean look at Mayweather...he spent his career ducking and dodging people who could beat them until they were out of their prime (aka Shane Moseley, Manny Pacquiao...etc) and he got gifted a decision on a fight he lost to Oscar De La Hoya, but there are plenty of other fighters who have massive win/loss ratio records but if you look at their career you see nothing but people when you see their name you go Who?

Mike was referred to as the Baddest Man On The Planet for a good reason! People actually feared him because of his explosive power and he was a tactician with his punches. He even has a Nintendo game from back in the day called Mike Tysons Punch Out!!! Great game by the way but i would put Mike Tyson in his prime against any of the legends period and he would slaughter most of them. His power and speed were unmatched and everyone knew it. Check out him hitting the big bag a few years ago at 55 yrs old! He is still a terrifying sight to behold!

We'll never see another heavyweight with the fast/explosive hands of Tyson. He had the fast twitching muscles that granted him insane reflexes. The guy threw combos like he was a welter-weight. I was fortunate to have seen him in person a few times and he was electric. I was 15 rows up and you could still hear the thudding shots. He's the closest thing I've seen to a pitbull in the ring. He could have been the greatest but his lack of discipline and out of ring bad habits cost him dearly.

Ike Ibeabuchi would have been the next Tyson. He was strong as an ox and lightning fast. Too bad his career was derailed at its peak. I always wondered if he was set up by some powerful mob boss. He was charged with "attempted rape" which is questionable coming from a call girl who came to his hotel room in the middle of the night. If Ike had wanted to rape her, there wouldn't have been a damned thing she could have done to stop him. That's why the charges are very suspect in my view. Many people don't know that mike modeled his himself after the great Jack Dempsey. Mike wore the same type of black shoes and trunks and even the same haircut as the "Manassa Mauler" Jack Dempsey. Dempsey popularized the sport with his ferocious pace of relentless pressure on his opponents. Tyson's coach Mr. D'amato was the trainer for Floyd Patterson. Patterson invented the peek-a-boo style of defense and D'amato streamlined it. Tyson was taught the Peek-a-boo style from D'amato and he took off like a rocket.

Floyd Mayweather is NOT a heavyweight, I don't know why no one is pointing this out lol he has not proven himself against the Power house monsters that reside in that weight class. There is a reason why the Heavyweight title is more prestigious then the welterweight title. Comparing a welter to a heavy is like comparing junior varsity to the NBA lol Floyd can't compete in Heavyweight and he knows it, if he could have he would have, instead of spending his entire career in welter/superwelter/lightweight Divisions.

That is true, but Deontay Wilder won his first 32 fights by knockout and went 40-0 with 39 knockouts before his draw with Tyson Fury. This isn't knocking Mike in any way, he is was a beast, but there Wilder's accomplishments are even more impressive.

I met Iron Mike briefly here in Henderson, NV ---super nice guy, kind and humble. I recall seeing him on TV in 1986 and my roommate said, "Watch this, this boxer (Mike) is going to be big someday!" Again, my experience was one of a nice guy.

In the military we had an exercise called "iron mikes". If you look at some of his old training videos you'll see him doing lunges with a big ass log across his shoulders. We did a variation on that and it was named after him. That's how much of a beast this man was

Lots of great boxers through history. Joe Louis was heavyweight champ for 12 years - longest reign ever - and retired at 66-3. Rocky Marciano retired at 49-0. Willie Pep retired at 229-11. Sandy Saddler went 145-16. More recently, Julio Cesar Chavez finished at 107-6 after starting his career with 87 straight wins. Mayweather was great, but don't be too impressed with 50-0.

Floyd wouldn't have beat Sugar Ray, Hearns, Duran, and about 10 others I can think of off the top of my head, including De La hoya and Camacho. But it's all subjective, especially when you cross over weight classes and Eras. But at least those guys fought everyone they put in front of them and didn't duck.

Fighting Mike Tyson was like going up against a fully grown pissed off hungry tiger. You can see the fear in the eyes of his opponents while Mike looks at them like he wants to tear them apart and destroy them. He was fast, coordinated, incredibly fit, and his fists sounded like gunshots and felt like sledgehammers.

Tyson Fury was named after Mike. Tyson Fury was born 3 months premature and weighed just 1 pound. His father named him after Mike Tyson, who was the heavyweight world champion at the time and later explained, "The doctors told me there was not much chance of him living. I had lost two daughters in the same way who had been born prematurely." He decided on the name "Tyson" as Fury was "a fighter" and survived the premature birth.

He's positioning himself for maximum torque as he moves in. The footwork is the thing, and it required intensive training by some boxing experts. These are not arm punches, to the contrary, his entire body is in position and his hip's are open. Cus D'Amato and Kevin Rooney had him living with them, at the boxing camp in Catskill, NY as a youngster when Tyson, was a juvenile ward of the state.

What makes Tyson such a great boxer, is his speed, equal power with both hands, his ability to avoid being hit by his opponent while boxing on the inside, and his ability to land a punch while on the move, so when his opponent goes to punch him back, Tyson is already gone.

What you guys have missed are Mike's post fight interviews and the ring announcements/ faceoffs. I would not have blamed some of Mike's opponents for just changing their minds at ringside just looking into his eyes. Pure frightening before any punch.

If Mike hadn't went to prison, and Cus Dematto had lived to keep him in line, he would be remembered as the greatest heavyweight ever. Ali is the greatest heavyweight because he had something that can't be taught, a great chin. Ali had a determination no other fighter could match. You guys talking about Floyd is embarrassing. Floyd Mayweather may have a perfect record, go back and watch his fight with Oscar De La Hoya and tell me Floyd won that fight. Even Floyd's dad said Oscar won. Plus Floyd dodged Manny Pacquiao until Pacman couldn't fight anymore. Floyd never fought anyone on the level of the greats. Name 1 opponent Floyd fought that will go down as one of the greatest fighters besides Pacquiao.

It's hard to put a little guy like Floyd in that position. The greatest has to be Heavyweight. Fighting Heavyweights is just a different game. The little guys just can't match the power.

The right hook body shot followed by right hand uppercut was his signature move. Right hook to the body to make them lower their guard to open up for that brutal uppercut. What makes the combo even more clever is the fact that the body shot would make them hunch down twoards his uppercut.

Tyson was an absolute beast. The reason henhad to be so aggressive is because they heigh different usually. So he had to get in close as he was a power puncher as well. I didnt really watch him as a young kid but as i got olde4 mike tyson ended up being my favourite boxer just because how he works his body. Love watching his replays all the time..probably one my my biggest boxing idols.

there are a few boxers from back before the modern era when most of the rules came into play, like gloves and rounds and TKO's where the boxers have 200+ wins and sometimes 300+ matches, if you can I highly recommend looking into some of the pre-modern era boxers if you can find info or videos on them, truly insane beasts they were

Iron Mike Tyson, textbook form. great defense. amazing footwork, always well positioned. and he explodes into every punch with his entire body rotation, body body, opponent then feels the need to protect the body, which opens up for the head shots and Mike will then throw either a punishing shot to the side of the head or his devastating uppercut. Either way those body shots opening the head shots and boom, just so fast and so powerful. You said it, more than half of those opponents just did not want to get hit anymore. One of the best boxers of all time. was so much fun to watch. So strong, so agile, and he was laser focused and angry from the bell. When I boxed, I needed to get hit a few times to get angry, coach said I'd never last vs someone like Mike that only needed one good punch to drop you. What a boxer, Iron Mike Tyson. amazing. I would love to see him up vs Ali back, some magical time machine sets up a match between them at their prime. What a fight that would be. Ali get in your head and so fast moving around. Mike just wanting to get right in his grill and drop him. Would be a legendary fight for sure.

No doubt. People are wow’d by the punches but his footwork for the HW division especially is …. Almost supernatural. Paul D’Amato and Tyson together were something truly special. As soon as he died the fucking vultures descended. But yeah man. His ability to get on the inside while rarely taking a straight shot is insane. Every movement was optimized for maximum damage.

Not only was iron mike a monster in the ring he was highly skilled, great footwork and defensive boxing. Nearly every fight he was the smaller man and shorter reach but because his technique was so great it didn’t matter, he was inside his opponent’s guard in the blink of an eye.
Mike in his prime was a MONSTER, he said it best: Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth. He had speed, stamina, strength and the killer instinct. I can't see anyone defeating him unless they win the mindgame before the fight. Sadly Mike was used and abused by so many people that his career was cut short.
This man in his prime was invincible and indestructible. He put the fear of the Almighty in his opponents.

Mike Tyson was not just the best knockout artist I had seen, but being in 6th grade at this time his KOs were truly frightening. I was legit scared of this man. The fact that he was also a near unbeatable boss, probably the first based on a real person, in a video game that I had, just elevated him to a mythical status of pure destruction in my young mind.

Mike was referred to as the Baddest Man On The Planet for a good reason! People actually feared him because of his explosive power and he was a tactician with his punches. He even has a Nintendo game from back in the day called Mike Tysons Punch Out!!! Great game by the way but i would put Mike Tyson in his prime against any of the legends period and he would slaughter most of them. His power and speed were unmatched and everyone knew it. Check out him hitting the big bag a few years ago at 55 yrs old! He is still a terrifying sight to behold!
We'll never see another heavyweight with the fast/explosive hands of Tyson. He had the fast twitching muscles that granted him insane reflexes. The guy threw combos like he was a welter-weight. I was fortunate to have seen him in person a few times and he was electric. I was 15 rows up and you could still hear the thudding shots. He's the closest thing I've seen to a pitbull in the ring. He could have been the greatest but his lack of discipline and out of ring bad habits cost him dearly.
He's bipolar and Cus D'amato was his rock. He kept him disciplined and focused. After he died, that's when Tyson spiraled out of control.
Ike Ibeabuchi would have been the next Tyson. He was strong as an ox and lightning fast. Too bad his career was derailed at its peak. I always wondered if he was set up by some powerful mob boss. He was charged with "attempted rape" which is questionable coming from a call girl who came to his hotel room in the middle of the night. If Ike had wanted to rape her, there wouldn't have been a damned thing she could have done to stop him. That's why the charges are very suspect in my view. Many people don't know that mike modeled his himself after the great Jack Dempsey. Mike wore the same type of black shoes and trunks and even the same haircut as the "Manassa Mauler" Jack Dempsey. Dempsey popularized the sport with his ferocious pace of relentless pressure on his opponents. Tyson's coach Mr. D'amato was the trainer for Floyd Patterson. Patterson invented the peek-a-boo style of defense and D'amato streamlined it. Tyson was taught the Peek-a-boo style from D'amato and he took off like a rocket.
Floyd Mayweather is NOT a heavyweight, I don't know why no one is pointing this out lol he has not proven himself against the Power house monsters that reside in that weight class. There is a reason why the Heavyweight title is more prestigious then the welterweight title. I met Iron Mike briefly here in Henderson, NV ---super nice guy, kind and humble. I recall seeing him on TV in 1986 and my roommate said, "Watch this, this boxer (Mike) is going to be big someday!" Again, my experience was one of a nice guy.

Lots of great boxers through history. Joe Louis was heavyweight champ for 12 years - longest reign ever - and retired at 66-3. Rocky Marciano retired at 49-0. Willie Pep retired at 229-11. Sandy Saddler went 145-16. More recently, Julio Cesar Chavez finished at 107-6 after starting his career with 87 straight wins. Mayweather was great, but don't be too impressed with 50-0.

These are not arm punches, to the contrary, his entire body is in position and his hip's are open. Cus D'Amato and Kevin Rooney had him living with them, at the boxing camp in Catskill, NY as a youngster when Tyson, was a juvenile ward of the state.
I remember staying up late(time difference to Germany), for a 1 minute fight. He rarely needed more than 3 rounds, often less.
Tyson was always so much smaller than everybody else. But he was unstoppable

What makes Tyson such a great boxer, is his speed, equal power with both hands, his ability to avoid being hit by his opponent while boxing on the inside, and his ability to land a punch while on the move, so when his opponent goes to punch him back, Tyson is already gone.
Tyson was trained by top notch guys , that’s how he had that technique and power.

I can remember multiple times getting up to make a drink or grab some food or take a quick piss and coming straight back to my seat and the Tyson fight be over. That fool owes me some money!!🤣🤣

What you guys have missed are Mike's post fight interviews and the ring announcements/ faceoffs. I would not have blamed some of Mike's opponents for just changing their minds at ringside just looking into his eyes. Pure frightening before any punch.

Tyson's duck and weave adding with his hooks and uppercuts was an incredible thing to overcome! Also, each fight, besides Holyfield, he has great control

A body like mike, lots of explosive midsection, leg and upper body training. Plus lots of cardio, running, skipping rope, building crazy endurance. He’s dense and fast.
If Mike hadn't went to prison, and Cus Dematto had lived to keep him in line, he would be remembered as the greatest heavyweight ever. Ali is the greatest heavyweight because he had something that can't be taught, a great chin. Ali had a determination no other fighter could match. You guys talking about Floyd is embarrassing. Floyd Mayweather may have a perfect record, go back and watch his fight with Oscar De La Hoya and tell me Floyd won that fight. Even Floyd's dad said Oscar won. Plus Floyd dodged Manny Pacquiao until Pacman couldn't fight anymore. Floyd never fought anyone on the level of the greats. Name 1 opponent Floyd fought that will go down as one of the greatest fighters besides Pacquiao.

@@kingkunta1156 while I think Canelo is a great fighter, I don't think he's an all time great. I think he's just a little short of fighters like Leonard, Hagler, Herns, even Gotti. Floyd no doubt is an all time great. I just realized my comment sounds like I have no respect for what he accomplished. I do. He did fight some great fighters. But I don't think Floyd is the GOAT. It's hard to put a little guy like Floyd in that position. The greatest has to be Heavyweight. Fighting Heavyweights is just a different game. The little guys just can't match the power.

Yes mike is the best explosive hw ever. Also look at some of the Riddick Bowe vs Evander Holyfield fights. Those were also legendary.
The right hook body shot followed by right hand uppercut was his signature move. Right hook to the body to make them lower their guard to open up for that brutal uppercut. What makes the combo even more clever is the fact that the body shot would make them hunch down twoards his uppercut.
Tyson was an absolute beast. The reason henhad to be so aggressive is because they heigh different usually. So he had to get in close as he was a power puncher as well. I didnt really watch him as a young kid but as i got olde4 mike tyson ended up being my favourite boxer just because how he works his body. Love watching his replays all the time..probably one my my biggest boxing idols.
there are a few boxers from back before the modern era when most of the rules came into play, like gloves and rounds and TKO's where the boxers have 200+ wins and sometimes 300+ matches, if you can I highly recommend looking into some of the pre-modern era boxers if you can find info or videos on them, truly insane beasts they were

Iron Mike Tyson, textbook form. great defense. amazing footwork, always well positioned. and he explodes into every punch with his entire body rotation, body body, opponent then feels the need to protect the body, which opens up for the head shots and Mike will then throw either a punishing shot to the side of the head or his devastating uppercut. Either way those body shots opening the head shots and boom, just so fast and so powerful. You said it, more than half of those opponents just did not want to get hit anymore. One of the best boxers of all time. was so much fun to watch. So strong, so agile, and he was laser focused and angry from the bell. When I boxed, I needed to get hit a few times to get angry, coach said I'd never last vs someone like Mike that only needed one good punch to drop you. What a boxer, Iron Mike Tyson. amazing. I would love to see him up vs Ali back, some magical time machine sets up a match between them at their prime. What a fight that would be. Ali get in your head and so fast moving around. Mike just wanting to get right in his grill and drop him. Would be a legendary fight for sure.
