He told the Taliban that they would be out by the 15th of May. Could you imagine the mess that would have been if the Biden Administration had not managed to extend the withdrawal till Sept. The withdrawal was bad enough as it was since the Afghanistan government fled to protect themselves instead of standing and fighting the Taliban. The west spent 20 years over there training and helping the people and in 2 months they ran and hid away from the Taliban instead of standing up for their country. You cannot fix cowardice and to try and blame the whole debacle on the Biden administration wreaks of Benghazi odor. This is a political stunt and any Republicant the says it isn't should be charged with lying to the American people and kicked out of office.

They are two separate things, trump should not have said anything regarding a timeline, that was a bad mistake, the Taliban were able to prepare, the withdrawal should have taken that into account.

What did Rep. Goldman say that was a "false blanket baseless statement"? Nothing, right? What he said was true. Maybe the truth offended Rep. Luna (and you), but that didn't allow her to speak out of turn. If Goldman had violated a House rule, like impugning the character of a House member, that would require instant intervention, that would be a different matter. But he said nothing wrong. When Luna did speak (out of turn, again) she complained that Goldman broached the PACT Act, which was none of her business. Goldman cold whistle "She'll Be Comin' 'Round the Mountain" for five minutes if he wanted. It was his time. #MYOB, Luna.

Therefore, the excuse of the equipment was for them is mute. They should have destroyed it or recouped it for delivery back to America. He didn't do that. He wanted out of Afghanistan as well. But it was obvious that if we did pull out the caliphate would take back over the country. Which was a no-go. Thus we remained at war. If the Afghanistan government at any time would've taken up the reins and actually cared to take care of their country and not be dependant of the U.S. none of this would have happened. We spent years training a military that didn't want to be the military. Spent years building up a democracy driven government that was too dependent on the U.S. and took no action to self govern. Nor any action to prepare themselves to defend 1 city. Afghanistan was always going to fail because of that fact right there. They wanted the u.s. to handle all of their problems till the end of time. When the U.S. called their bluff they collapsed. That's not the U.S.'s fault. That failure lies in a government who refused to take any actions for themselves. And while the Taliban are at it again, we the U.S. do not hold a responsibility to save every country from themselves. We spent 20+ years helping them retain their country. They lost it themselves.

Proper withdrawal from a conflict cannot be orchestrated based on guidelines from a past assessment. The conditions at the time determine the necessary steps. Blaming a prior administration's assessment for your failures months later is disingenuous at best.
The prior Administration did not perform an assessment, as was pointed out during the Hearing. The former President made a selfishly motivated decision to withdraw, without consultation of the DOD, specifically naming the date of the withdrawal to enable it to occur at the end of the Administration, and effectively hamstringing the process.

The Biden administration had no choice but to negotiate an extension to leave by end of August 2021. Was it flawless? Not even close, but NOBODY can lay blame on President Biden, who by the way advocated for the US withdrawal from Afghanistan many times during Obama's tenure as POTUS, for errors committed during the retreat from a war that lasted TWO decades+.
