In today’s video, we’re recapping the intense World War II drama, Greyhound. This gripping film, starring Tom Hanks, who also penned the screenplay, takes us into the treacherous waters of the North Atlantic. Hanks portrays Commander Ernest Krause, a career officer finally given command of a U.S. destroyer, the USS Keeling, codenamed “Greyhound.” Tasked with leading an international convoy of 37 Allied ships, Krause must outmaneuver the relentless pursuit of Nazi U-boats in a deadly game of cat and mouse.
The movie is a lean, no-nonsense portrayal of naval warfare, focusing on strategy and survival rather than character backstories. It’s a story of courage, quick decisions, and the harsh realities of war at sea. With its meticulous attention to historical detail, Greyhound offers a unique look at the Battle of the Atlantic, a crucial, yet less frequently depicted, theater of World War II.

  • I'm not a seasoned sailor but I definitely remember reading that destroyers were faster than subs. They could have out ran the submarines.

  • The narrator has a very limited vocabulary of military terminology. Throwing explosives? That may be fine for the great unwashed, but not for those who have been haze gray and underway.

    • I've only ever found it available on Apple TV. I think they are losing millions by not making it more widely available.

  • The "Explosives" used against the Submarines when they are under water are - _"Depth Charges"_ . When the Submarines are on the surface they are engaged by "Gun Fire" from the ships Guns - which might reply with Gun Fire from the Submarine's Deck Guns. .

  • Whoever made this narration is one of the most ignorant people I have ever heard talk about the military.

    • It opens with, "After attacking Pearl Harbor, the United States joined France and Great Britain in..." What? This must be AI on really bad training wheels.

  • This movie seems to me to be rather sloppy as to its accuracy. Fletcher destroyers had radar so how did that freighter sneak up on them out of the dark?? Radar and Sonar, the Fletchers were modern ships from keel up and wholly prepared for the rigors of war plus, if I am recalling my history most of the Fletchers were assigned to the Pacific theater.

    • @@aOneRecaps No. Not Soldiers - Sailors. Soldiers are in the Army. Sailors are in the Navy. The only Soldiers - would be Army Personnel on Troop Transports. Any crew members on any of the ships - are Sailors. .

  • A1 Recaps. You should thoroughly consider updating your knowledge on Military and Navy terminology before posting any more videos on subjects of which you are not very familiar with. 😒
