  • I'm a retired Medical Laboratory Technologist. In the early 1980s became infected with the Hepatitis C virus while working at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center's clinical chemistry laboratory. A sample processing technician became infected with HIV and died within 3 months. Their was no treatment for either infection at that time. I became quite ill very rapidly and due to my training I knew precisely that I was infected. When a cure became available by being treated with a 3 month course of Epclusa I was finally rid of the virus. The cause of infection was just like Dr. Johnson's.

    • @@Itsrichardash Richard, this was a known threat to the hospital employees such as nursing, doctors, medical students, janitorial etc. I received workman's compensation for about a month or so until I was healthy enough to return to work. Not on a scale with COVID but their were severe illnesses and deaths amongst the staff. I got the coronavirus vaccine as soon as it arrived here in upstate New York. I got the bivalent vaccine as soon as it arrived at Walgreens. All of them manufactured by Pfizer. I've never became infected. All tests negative: At home tests and doctor's lab test. Not so much as a head cold and I'm 70 years old.

    • @Jellybelly Jack That's great. Advances in treatment are happening all the time. The treatments and vaccines for the coronavirus have accelerated new discoveries of viral pathogens. Our college curriculum included immunology and I had to refresh that knowledge when I was a blood bank supervisor in Bergen County, NJ.

  • I've just seen a documentary here on KZhead about the village of Eyam here in the UK where people survived the plague, some not even becoming sick with it due to a particular gene. The doctor in the programme went on to discover that this gene also prevents people developing AIDS by the same mechanism. The gene essentially prevents the AIDS virus from getting into the immune cells of the body, so they're unable to take the cells over & replicate. This has opened doors to gene therapy for people with HIV & AIDS. There is still more work to be done, but the treatment is just over the horizon. I wouldn't be surprised if it's available within the next 10 years.

For them it was better than not doing anything. Europe also uses homeopathic medicine with science. THANK GOODNESS to Europe many people I know were able to survive the disease and live a full life. • We've come a long way in dealing with the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS and the treatment options for afflicted patients that controls the virus. Now-a-days doctors, and other healthcare practitioners, aren't pressured to claim they contracted "Good Aids" from needle pricks and infected blood. I'll take his word for how he got infected, but it still sounds a little suspect and like someone trying to distance themselves from the high-risk groups and "Bad Aids."

  • Some individuals were born with the CCR5Δ32 mutation, which naturally blocks HIV, there were those that are considered LTP (Long-term Progressors), which they will carry HIV for decades before their HIV progress to AIDS (with HIV medications). Fortunately there are two possible (pending) therapies currently in human clinical trials for a functional cure to HIV, (1) being *AGT103-T* , developed by American Gene Technologies and (2) being *EBT-101* , developed by Excision BioTherapeutics. An inquiry was sent to American Gene Technologies (developers of AGT103-T) to ask the question of the possibility of American Gene Technologies and Excision BioTherapeutics (developers of EBT-101) combining their research into a possible AGT103-T + EBT-101 combined therapy, in the possibility of having a "sterilizing" cure of HIV. As of now AGT103-T & EBT-101 are both being independently demonstrated for their safety and effectiveness before possibility combing both therapies, which are completely different approaches as AGT103-T grants HIV resistance to the T cells that are responsible for hunting HIV, allowing them do their job and fight HIV, like you would for any other virus. This includes continuously fighting the viral reservoir. EBT-101, on the other hand, is a temporary pulse of CRISPR-associated gene expression that aims to cut out all HIV from the human genome, but since the CRISPR-associated genes cannot be continuously expressed, they need to cut of 100% of HIV proviruses during their expression window, otherwise HIV can just replicate and return. American Gene Technologies will need to see updated data from both therapies to know how well both of them work and whether or not an AGT103-T+EBT-101 combination therapy would be warranted. Both AGT103-T & EBT-101 are both in clinical trials, which usually takes between 2 and 5 years because each time a patient is infused, they are extensively monitored for side effects, efficiency and variations in their response to the therapy. In regards to AGT103-T, in theory AGT103-T could be given a dose preventively, as a vaccine, but it would be significantly harder to make due to the lack of HIV specific TCR enrichment that are seen in PLHIV. Also, T cells which do not encounter their target will naturally reduce in number, so it's possible that AGT103-T would not be permanent in people who do not have HIV. AGT103-T archives the same functional effects as delta 32 variant (CCR5Δ32), which some people are born with and when HIV tries to enter their cells, it can't grip onto the mutated CCR5 produced by these individuals. AGT103-T does deliver miRNA to prevent CCR5 from expressing on the cell surface, which makes cells resistant to HIV entry.
