  • Youha is such a gem. She has everything to be a top solo artist, but her company really seems to be the issue here. It's so sad, training in a TOP3 company for decades for false promises, only to end up in a company that does not give her the promotion she so rightfully deserves. I am still glad she is releasing music, 'NUMB' from her mini album is one of my favorite songs, and I hope in the future she can find a home that can give everything to her.

  • 2:32 just a tiny correction, pink punk was initially a 9 member group. YG planned to have a younger version of 2ne1 (future 2ne1) and the yg version of girl's generation (pink punk). Jennie said multiple times that the line up kept changing, people leaving and people coming, then it became 7, then 5 (with miyeon) and finally 4, but by that point the entire pinkpunk concept had been scratched already.

    • @@marwaessaadi people’s chemistry aren’t stable - one day on evaluation they excel in one group, one they don’t shine. The label (correction not just HIM you are talking about because judges during evaluations include producers and staff even senior artists are present too to observe) - are meant to debut a group that gets along with each other and not just competing with each other. It is not their fault that some younger trainees shine at certain scenario and gets to debut earlier. It is all about who is ready to be in a group and face the idol realty rather than first come first debut or age heirarchy though. Also YGE bg literally showcased trainees in YGTB so that other companies can take a look at their potential too if they were not chosen to debut. Most were chosen to be main roles of other groups too when they debut. For gg - it is literally an issue magnet when they are exposed during trainee days because of social media and netizens investigating their pasts looking for faults or scandals during school days hence most trainees under them are not allowed to have heir own social media page; do you think they fit the YG group they tried to create? Other trainees are not being gatekeep - they are free to go whenever they want to; they are equipped with skills honed under their trainee program without even paying back debts. As a business investor, you are of course allowed to make aware of your trainees to be focused on being a trainee because of debut being a media personality to perform right? if they are not contracted under them then they don’t have any hold against someone either. 😅

  • What makes YG disregarding these girls even worse is that they may have been disregarded for their appearance rather than talent. YG himself is known to be a misogynist who spoke openly about how “ugly” the 2NE1 members were and stated that any future girl groups he would debut would be more beautiful. It may have been his insane beauty standard and shallow view of women which lead to him choosing the Blackpink members to debut rather than ‘Future 2NE1’ because he saw them as more attractive and profitable. Yet another example of how women are constantly mistreated in the kpop industry :(

    • I think Blackpink debuted in 2016 after 2NE1 lost a member in Minzy and the other members were still in the middle of their contract negotiations. Perhaps Blackpink would not have debuted if all of 2NE1 members were still going great together. It was the sliding door moment back then and perhaps that also affected the chance of debuting the Future 2NE1 group down the track.

      @davidwong6682@davidwong6682 Жыл бұрын
    • Idk, since the point of 2ne1 was their music and strong concept rather than looking pretty. If this was sm then for sure. There was a rumour years ago around pink punk times that yg was going to debut a group where no members have plastic surgery and weren’t allowed to. Akmu suhyun spoke before that although they might recommend a surgery no one is forced. Of course we don’t know the real reason these girls didn’t debut with yg, training every day for 10 years to not be picked to debut must’ve been so so disheartening

      @ldnroses@ldnroses Жыл бұрын
    • I was agreeing with you until you implied blackpink was chosen to debut over the members of future 2ne1 solely for their looks, as if they themselves don't have talent or are not also mistreated to this day by the company.

      @rosiebonnie@rosiebonnie Жыл бұрын
    • @@rosiebonnie wasn’t implying that at all, just implying that blackpink conform to Korean beauty standards more than the other trainees at the time. I mentioned talent in that it’s unfortunate that overall the way you look is favoured more than how talented you are but that’s not to say blackpink aren’t talented.

      @abcdefghijk2016@abcdefghijk2016 Жыл бұрын
  • The trainee system needs to be overhauled. First of all trainees should not have to pay the company back at all, especially since most of them are minors. I think their should be an age limit to become a trainee, their should be a contract with a period of at most three years, and their should be some form of payment, certification, or reward. Also the number of trainees should be reduced drastically, perhaps just being a pre-debut team. SIDE NOTE: I'm so glad Miyeon was let go out of Pink Punk and instead found a great musical home with (G) I-DLE. She has so much more creativity freedom and opportunity for musical expression at CUBE. She already released a whole EP which became one of the highest selling solo albums at CUBE!

  • Probably one big factor of them deciding to leave YG in 2018-2019 was because of the Big scandal YG has faced around that time. Debut was nowhere in sight and they are getting "older". Last we've seen of MoonSua and Youha in YG was in the show YG Future Strategy Office in 2018 Also, aside from her song credits during UPRS2 Sua also helped wrote some rap parts of a song for Mixnine while in the YG dungeon.

Almost every ex-YG trainee that debuts under another company ends up being a main or lead vocal/dancer/rapper and many have producing or composing credits. Goes to show that a successful idol isn’t only made by their talent but also if their company can properly utilize it. • I would say that training for 2-4 years should be enough. 2 years for the naturally talented at 4 years for the diamonds in the very rough. I'd say that it doesn't really work to train for over 5 years. You could argue that Jihyo and Moon Sua ended up doing well, but relatively they are still outshined by co-idols who trained less, even within their own group. Objective skill isn't everything either in kpop, sadly. You're idol material or you're not really. It's also kinda harsh to force these young teens to train for THAT long in general without any reasonable guarantee. It must've crushed their sense of self identity and self worth. I hope they are happy in life now. I also hope we don't go to a 1 year training system either, because now we got full groups who can't even sing live anymore. So yeah, I rest my case. 2-4 years is ideal and they wouldn't be too old to re-sign with a new entertainment if they dropped out.

  • It's this sort of video that just makes you realise all over again how horrifying this industry is. The fact that it's considered normal to give up your entire childhood to dedicate your life to a career that fans basically expect to be over by the time you're 25 is absolutely insane. In the west, we have so many artists who start their careers around that age, and it might be a little harder for them since they have to support themselves while doing it, but nobody even thinks to see them as old. It's so sad that kpop careers are expected to last less than ten years. If fans were more kind, and if the industry wasn't such an awful one to be in (unless you meet very specific standards and get very, very lucky) then more idols would be able to have long and fulfilling careers with room to pursue other things that make them happy.

Future 2ne1 was intented to debut sometime in 2019 but lost the momentum because of scandals the company has been facing at that time. Even Treasure's debut was delayed because of this.

    • YG had a lot of plans regarding the debut of girl groups which never happened. The first project was SUPEARLS (supposed to be a vocal group) which was composed of Lee Hi and kpop star contestants. They were set to debut around 2011-2013 but never happened. The next announced project was PINKPUNK (aka yg version of SNSD). They were supposed to be 9 members and was supposed to debut in 2012. This never happened but 4 out of 9 of the supposed members debuted later as BLACKPINK. Lastly was the FUTURE 2NE1 project. They were supposed to debut in 2016, which was pushed to 2018 then was pushed to 2019 until it never happened. Now we have BABYMONSTER, which was rumored to come out last year but is just revealed this year.

Yoon from winner said “You don’t know if you can become a singer at yg.” You might audition for dancer but become a rapper or even an in house producer. But training there gives you lot of good opportunities. They really invest in you, they even have debate classes so you can learn to speak up for yourself. They also hook you up to other agencies. I know this by watching their survival shows and what other ex trainees and yga have said. I could go on and on 😅 but yeah if you wanna debut in yg nothing is 100%

Then you compare it for recent groups - Aespa Giselle trained 10 months, Jimin BTS 1 year, Yuna/Yeji 3 years. It seems companies wanna pump out young groups quick to see if they're successful then disband quickly if not.

    • Wonder Girls Yeeun trained for 'a couple of days' until debuting in 2007. EXO's lead vocal Baekhyn and main vocal Chen trained for 3 months until debuting in 2012, but they had vocal lessons outside of the company before becoming trainees. 2 Super Junior members who are also known for their vocals debuted after 2 months of training in 2005. Twice is actually a more 'recent' group than BTS (2015 for twice and 2013 for bts) and Mina from Twice only trained for 1 year as well as BTS Jimin. So while I mostly enjoy 'old' kpop songs, I don't think that this short training is some recent trend.

You have a better chance of being a kpop idol than being Major Junior Ice Hockey player or a D1 College athlete let alone professional or being a elite footballer trainer in the EPL. They just don’t magically give your money back to your parents after your last year of junior a, when it’s obvious your ceiling is just the ringer at the beer league. I think the trainee system isn’t unique or even harsh, the issue is the lack of parental involvement and a lot of unabated access to children. Which western sports system have a much better system for, while not perfect; it’s not locked away form the world for 1-6 years at 13 years old and heaven for bid you got the goods but not the face.

  • What absolutely needs to change about the industry is debuting children. Baby Monster has a single member who is legally an adult. All others are children. That shouldn't be legal, especially after how YG treated Black Pink and most importantly 2ne1 in the past. But the same goes for the other companies. The industry is absolutely able to survive on groups with adult members only or drop the age of adulthood from 20 to 18 like Japan did. You're considered an adult at 18 in many, many countries. But to have 13-17 year old children debut into an industry as horrendously competitive, cut-throat and disgustingly hateful as the Kpop industry? No. That's just wrong on every single level.

  • YG or any kpop company promising success?? I don’t think they promise success or even a debut. They get trained but the trainees and families are aware they could be dropped any day. Unfortunately that’s the harsh reality and yes we can critize it and try to make changes but ultimately it’s all up to the trainees and if they are minors their families or guardians. It’s not only YGE that has these type of issues but somehow kpop fans always try to make it as a YGE problem and even more now when they have a new girl group debuting soon. Why all of you kpop fans are not voicing out and making videos about other companies that are even worse in treatment? Expose all of those companies that even after debuting a group the group members get treated poorly.

  • This may be a hot take, but I believe that the trainee system HAS to consist of preteens/children. Kpop in general is very fickle and at the end of the day, being an idol is a job, most of the time only contracted for at most 7 years (only a rare few groups re-sign and continue). The age of idols are on average between 16 and 27 and with that, they would need to be trained before debut. Most idols debut around the age of 18-20 with an average of about 4 years training which would put them at joining a company at around 13-14 (middle school). Obviously there would be the concern of wasted youth / childhood, however as a logical standpoint, it's much easier to chase your dream when younger because it is much easier to pivot and change career when younger. If it doesn't work out, and it doesn't for many hopefuls, they leave the trainee life roughly around the age of 16-22 which gives them ample time to refocus their life and career as opposed to someone in their mid to late 20s. The older you are, the more you have to lose, so although it may seem rough for kids to endure, it's ultimately better so that if / when the dream comes to an end, they can still bounce back in life.

    @BobbyOverHere@BobbyOverHere Жыл бұрын
    • Giving up my life for 4-6 years of being a trainee when I'm a child or in my teens is a much better prospect than giving up 4-6 years of my mid 20s when I've already started to build a life and identity. Putting your life on hold in your 20s with no safety net is reckless because when you come back to the work force, no one cares about you when you're an adult.

      @BobbyOverHere@BobbyOverHere Жыл бұрын
    • That’s a good point. I think a compromise that will satisfy all even companies is to allow training in ur middle to teen but always prioritize school and those that can do decently well and have the star quality talent vials ect, they can debut between 18-22 .
