Messi played on perfect pitches with world class players in a two team league. He played in a more offensive role than Maradona. If they tackled Messi it was freekick, penalty or yellow or red. Maradona was assaulted on the field and they just let the play continue but he dominated anyway. Barcelona won even before Messi, Napoli didn't win until Maradona arrived. The italian league was the best league by far in the 80's. A lot of teams competed for the title. Messi played with world class players like Iniesta, Xavi etc. Maradona didn't play with world class players like Matthäus, Gullit, Van Basten, Platini etc. He played AGAINST THEM with his average teammates. And as far as the biggest tournaments. Only the champions was qualified to participate. Not 1-4 placed teams. So he only had 2 chances in serie A. Messi had the chance to win every year with Barcelona. But it's actually good Maradona played in the 80's, because if he played in a world class team in this era it wouldn't be fun to watch. He would be totally unstoppable. And remember, no penalty goal in '86. The tackles he received would have been a lot of freekicks, penalties and yellow and red cards in today's game. I can go on forever... No doubt in my mind, Maradona is the greatest player of all time.

I bow in front of Leo Messi and what he accomplished today in Qatar. Just perfect! It was pure art and leadership and it made me emotional But Diego was still Don Diego. You hat to see him to believe it. He played when football was at it's worse in term of brutally. Defenders butchered him with no protection from anyone! It was the way it was...The fields he played in were patotoes fields at best....I mean you cannot compare the 2 really. Messi is protected, best training centers, best doctors, the game is made safer for stars....unlike 40 yrs ago. Taking nothing away from the greatness that is Messi, he deserves the cup and I cried for him.

Lo que me sorprendía de este tío era su explosión/potencia en el dribbling y la lucidez mental que conservaba en el tramo final de cada jugada, soportando semejante desgaste físico (forcejeos, patadas, marca personal y en zona). Pd: tuve la oportunidad de de asistir a un encuentro del Sevilla y era obsceno ver que con apenas levantar el pie ponía el balón dónde se le ocurriera
El otro día estaba viendo un partido random de Maradona jugando para Boca en 1996 y se estaban comiendo un baile ante Racing y en un momento mete una asistencia desde el medio campo (medio campo) y le cae al pie del delantero que sólo necesitó meterla, además fue una pelota _bombeada_ , es decir, un disparo con efecto a colocar, o sea, ese pie no lo ha tenido nadie antes ni después, increíble.

Cuando veo a Maradona en el Barcelona, siento que tiene mucho más velocidad y aceleración que sus días en el Napoli y por supuesto que en el mundial del 86. Creo que Diego tuvo desarrollar mayor corpulencia luego de su estadía en el Barcelona para poder soportar el juego tan físico y violento que tenían sobre el. Un verdadero genio.

Good video, what is not said as much because of his unmatched talent is how tuff and not afraid to get stuck in he was, and he was a hard man by account's from players, the real football people know he is greatest, it is nothing against other top players but for me the tapes don't lie, Maradona showed how the game could and should be played, and in fairness he was the greatest like him or not. He deserves to RIP for the joy and inspiration he brought to so many.
