  • The man playing guitar on the left side was my father, Martin O'Hara. Shortly after this event he was diagnosed with cancer, and very recently after a long hard battle, dad has passed away. So this was one of dads final performances. It meant the world to him that people took the time out of their day to slow down and listen. It also meant the world to him when I told him how many of you people online have resonated with this moment. To slow down that day and stop to listen to those performers and singers was an effortless decision for any passers-by, but it meant a great deal more to him and I, it really was an honour. And dad died with that pride and peace that you gave him, so on his behalf, thank you so much for listening.

    • Mythic It sounds like your Dad was a helluva guy. I lost my Dad just a little over a year ago. He passed away on Feb.15,2019. If we could only go back and tell them how much we love them just one more time. And now sadly I have lost my Mom as well. She passed away May 28,2021. How I wish that I had just a little more time with Mom and Dad there is so much I would like to talk to them about and now I can't.

    • Generations were spanned in the video alone, not to mention the online views. It feels magical when something like this happens spontaneously and it's usually a Pink Floyd song that pulls us all in (although once it happened with the Moody Blues' "Nights in White Satin" and it was no less magical)

  • 9 years ago, I lost my baby sister. We would have found the nearest stadium and broke in just to hear the harmony of the vocals from the "average people". Don't ever think that because you're not the very best at something that you're not still a part of something amazing. If you doubt it, listen to the vocals from this crowd, it's amazing. Remember, you're always valued and always loved. And you're never alone, no matter how dark things seem, how bad you think things are or how much you think you won't be missed. I have a patch of skin that will prove you wrong. You are important, you are special, you are worth it, you are loved and we want you to be here. I know that trusting people is the hard part of opening up and looking for counseling, I'm a survivor too (even if I didn't want to be). But keep fighting to find someone you can talk to, they ARE out there, there are people that will listen. You don't have to go throught this alone. One last thing: I love you.

  • Whoa! Now that I've dried my tears and composed myself... What an absolutely moving experience! Watching this video has conflated two of my most treasured memories. First memory: I had the distinct pleasure of seeing and hearing Pink Floyd in concert in Tampa in 1977. I had just turned 15 and had no idea how fortunate I was to be there because when Pink Floyd returned to the US for the The Wall tour they only made two stops in New York and two others in LA. This is one of the many great songs I was privileged to hear. I'm confident that thousands of people sang along but the music was so loud you couldn't hear them. Second memory: three or four years later I attended a concert of The Rossington-Collins Band, which contained the surviving members of Lynyrd Skynyrd. At the end of the concert they finally played the song everyone there had come to here, which was - of course - Freebird. There was no vocalist. A spotlighted microphone topped by the hat of the deceased Ronnie Van Zant occupied the center of the stage, which made all in attendance wish that he was there. For those who don't know, the song begins gently and mournfully, slowly builds in tempo and intensity, and then finishes with an ecstatic/cathartic 10 minute instrumental. So anyway, the tens of thousands of fans, without prompting from the band or anyone else, provided the vocals. It was a mystical experience, similar to the one conveyed in this video but on a grander scale and in real-time.
