There are so many other things that I wish hardware manufacturers would focus on. Airflow, thermal efficiency, case layout innovation and space reduction optimizations. Our obsession with RGB, vertical GPU mounts, cable sleeves, hidden cables, fancy-looking motherboard armors is just driving up component production costs. I'm happy to see some manufacturers moving in the right direction though.

  • And this demonstrates why alot of custom watercooling guys (me included) moved from thick radiators and fast fans in push pull (only worth doing with thicker rads), to thinner larger rads (larger in frontal surface area) and more of them. This way you can have more surface area, more fans spinning at a lower rpm, and more fluid for heat to dump into (takes much longer for water temps to peak), all at a lower operating noise level as well. Currently I'm modifying an old Silverstone TJ07 case to fit 1920mm of radiator (equivalent of 4x 480mm rads), it'll run any system, full blast, at very quiet noise levels..only downside is how expensive a loop like this costs 😅

    @glynkatkin@glynkatkinАй бұрын
    • i had a 480mm & 280mm in a TJ07 and was overkill - push pull on the 280mm and only push on 480mm. water delta was very low - maybe 10 over ambient even with a 3080 and 10700k @5.3ghz. CPU would peak at 62 degrees in summer.

      @mtzlolp@mtzlolpАй бұрын
    • Doesn't push-pull allow you to drop your RPMs? I have an Evolv X with a 420mm and 280mm GTS radiators (30mm thickness) and I have to my fans ramp up to about 900 RPM. I was thinking of throwing a GTX (54mm) in the front with push-pull fans to reduce my fan speeds further. Do you think this is a bad idea?

      @Noah-Lach@Noah-LachАй бұрын
    • i planned on building a 4x 540 custom baffled system (basically a pc sitting inside a sound proofed box with both the intake & exhaust super muffled), i stopped after awhile of planning when i couldnt run away any longer from the fact that this exercise was gonna be thousands $$$$, with LESS reliability, to achieve what exactly? for all intents purpose my system is silent already with d15 & 3x a12x25s dialed in. maintenance etc. i can be lazy, this big dumb block of metal aint breaking or needs maintenance. was fun planning though! optimus water blocks , forgtoten now, but went so much detail spending ages working out most reslient rubber for hoses etc. black commercial rubber with clamps. Like you say, bigger fan turnign slower better than small high rpm.

      @fredfinks@fredfinksАй бұрын
    • @@Noah-Lach You'll lose all benefit of a thicker rad by pushing less air through it, at that point you are better off with a low fpi thin rad and a single set of fans spinning quietly, which is the route I've gone with, to make up for lower temps, I've just put ridiculous amounts of surface area in the case, and have 2x D5's decoupled from the case and with blue-tak stuffed inside the casing (behind the PCB)..so plenty of flow, 1/2" ID soft tubing, and heaps of radiator surface area with slow spinning fans.

    • I can get my hands on an old, fully outdated Alienware Aurora ALX PC. I'm not at all interested in the PC, the GTX 750ti is a bit outdated, but the case is what I want. It is a very cool looking case, and would be very neat for a retro build, but I just cant sort out how you can possibly get any airflow through that case. Plus the Front I/O is full of 13 years worth of funk, none of the USBs work, and I'm not sure if those can be replaced or not?? Would be a very cool looking PC if it could be worked out though, I can get it for basically free.

Even going as far as finding the lowest input lag esport title to play and a comparison between games. • Just a tip on sound measurements from an Industrial Hygienist; you orient the microphone 90 degrees away from the source (not pointing directly at the source), and due to the inverse square law, you position the microphone where the human ear would be located relative to the source. There are other considerations such as the weighting scheme applied to the octave bands, and the enclosure makes a big difference.

    @GottKrampf@GottKrampfАй бұрын
  • The thing with tick rads you need push pull to get good performance with a good noise level. The thing is with the THICC you have double the surface area, but in that regard, you have to move air over that surface area for it to be effective. Since the THICC is "stacking" to get better performance mathematically you will have to have 35% more air flow to get a near linier graph for surface area to performance vs a 480mm long rad vs a near double thick rad... Assuming though you have the same flow, but then with AIOs you start to hit a flow limit. Why I said near, without an increase in flow rate there is harder chance to come to parity. TLDR without more airflow and/or flow rate it can't do better.

  • I might have missed it, but does this AIO allow you to refill it, because after a few years won’t there be some fluid loss due to permeation and such?

  • Maybe just a detail, but since you are a perfectionist I'll say it anyway, the audio on this video is not really the best, in particular in the first shots. There is quite a bit of reverb and once you notice it it's pretty distracting! Great video as always but just thought I would point it out.
