Build A New Life In The Country: Pennines | History Documentary | Reel Truth History

2019 ж. 14 Қаз.
425 110 Рет қаралды

Middle-aged couple Terry and Marilyn attempt to relocate from Whitby to a 500-year-old farmhouse in the Pennines, which they set out to transform into a home for their large family. Architect George Clarke offers advice about restoring the collapsed roof and laying a concrete floor, and lends moral support when flooding means they lose precious time and have to seek shelter with Marilyn's father.
Presented by architectural designer Charlie Luxton, Build A New Life follows people leaving the rat-race of the city in pursuit of new lifestyles and new homes in the countryside. The dream houses they are creating are inspiring, architecturally challenging and are all undertaken with a modest budget.

  • Out of all of these home restoration videos, this is my favourite. Northumberland is beautiful, it's people the most warm-hearted, kind and down to earth on this planet. I left the Valleys to join the Army nigh on thirty years ago, got married to a German lass and settled in northern Germany. After watching this, I'm not afraid to admit I shed a tear or five. My wife was sat watching this with me when I pressed pause, slowly turned to her and said "I need to go home". The song by Mark Knopfler "fare thee well Northumberland" says it all. The thing is: I don't need to go home - I have to, this is were I belong. Thankyou for posting this and please excuse my emotional outbreak.
