Mark Zuckerberg Talks AI And That Musk Fight That's Never Going To Happen

2024 ж. 14 Мам.
220 347 Рет қаралды

Sitting in a glass-walled conference room nicknamed The Aquarium, Mark Zuckerberg runs a cost/benefit analysis on the topic that has brought him headlines this year: mixed martial arts. Today, he’s focusing on head shots versus body shots. “Getting hit in the face doesn’t hurt that much,” he deadpans. “It just does brain damage.”
The obviously-never-going-to-happen cage match with Elon Musk (“I assumed he wouldn’t do it”) put Zuckerberg back into the zeitgeist in the stupidest way, but it also served a business purpose: For much of his career, he has undermined his monumental achievements by wading through a swamp of missteps and democracy-crippling scandals. So the Musk beef was rare: an opportunity to play hero to the Tesla CEO’s petulant villain, to demonstrate that Facebook’s former “toddler CEO” has evolved into Meta’s statesman.
“The thing that determines your destiny isn’t a competitor,” he says. “It’s how you execute.”
Such reflection is well-timed. Zuckerberg will turn 40 next May, with a fortune estimated at $106 billion, a philanthropy arm designed for maximum impact and a commitment to transform one of the most important companies in the world, over which he has near total control. In many ways, he’s having his Bill Gates moment. Like Zuckerberg, Gates dropped out of Harvard to build a historically significant tech company. Like Zuckerberg, he was the nerdy boy-wonder face of his field. Like Zuckerberg, he produced fans, enemies and antitrust concerns on his brusque, relentless way to the top.

  • You can tell Zuck really struggles with communicating in a way that resonates with others, he's worried that he will say something insensitive or dystopian about the future. He probably realized that most people arent gonna be excited about more and more remote meetings and "virtual meetings" etc. But he's correct that its the direction the world is going because in the end is all about productivity and cost cutting.

    • Obviously it's going to be huge if more business people can stay home, as @duffgaryduff mentioned already, but as a non-business person who would never need to use these devices for my job, I'm still interested in them because of what it will mean for the future of the internet, for the future of phone calls, for the future of how we get things done. Yes, a "hologram" isn't the same as real life, but it's a LOT closer than Facetime or Zoom is, right now. And when that means seeing your family you don't live near, that improvement can make a huge difference. Plus we just do not yet have the technology to take advantage of what these headsets can provide. Truly volumetric video footage that we shoot ourselves, or watch as Instagram Reels, or in the latest Netflix show, will BLOW us away. I wish that was a larger part of the dialogue with VR, but obviously there are still some technological roadblocks preventing us from really getting that yet. The "Spatial Video" from the iPhone 15 Pro might be a start, though.

  • - Mobile technology is the biggest innovation of Mark's lifetime. - AI is a technology that he is excited about, and it has been making great breakthroughs in the past year. - He believes that there will be multiple AI systems that people will interact with for different things. - The metaverse is another technology that he is excited about, which will allow people to feel physically present with each other no matter where they are in the world. - In the near term, VR will provide this experience, but in the long term, it will be possible through a pair of normal-looking glasses. - The goal is to build the future of human connection through these technologies. - Quest Pro and Quest 3 will allow for mixed reality and the blending of digital objects into the physical world around us. - The development of glasses with the same capabilities is a difficult tech problem, but he hopes it will be solved in the next few years.

He looks like someone trying really really hard to look like they are engaged in active listening-leaned forward, but his posture is rigid enough to look uncomfortable; holding eye contact and smiling, but it looks forced and uncomfortable. He looks like he is trying to take the interview very seriously and give the total of his attention to the interviewer, but it comes off as unnatural and fake because he seems tense and agitated rather than relaxed and engaged. It is like he is trying to win at being interviewed rather than just chatting about his work and experience. I suspect that he is obsessed with public perception of himself and his products because he wants to create things with mass appeal so he can try to feel justified in his position of power, and collect even more wealth. I think he is probably more concerned with appearance and profitability than he is with his own beliefs and values, and the press training and desire to appear engaged combined with the lack of real personal conviction comes off as rigid and fake.

I don't even bother browsing the web with the Quest since my PC has everthing I'd want on there. I feel like this issue with trying to fit all this computational power on a smaller and smaller device is flawed. I was able to play Half-Life Alyx in my car 50km away from my PC with my iPhone on hotspot thanks to Virtual Desktop on the Quest ... my point is, we should be embracing the remote desktop approach as it lends itself to a much richer experience and might make the headsets ligther. To be honest, I love the Quest 2 and have no issues with it, only a higher resolution display and FOV would make it better for me.

People throuought history always fear & protest against technology. People feared the locomotive when it was invented, then photography (claiming it stole souls) then people protested the tractor saying it would destroy jobs (it did! 80% of population was employed in agriculture) then people rioted against electricity (churches claimed it was invisible demon power) people feared airplanes, cars, then the Federal reserve, the microphone, space travel, Television, nuclear power, the internet, then y2k, then smartphones, then Alexa/Siri/google, then self- driving cars.., etc. Ai will undoubtedly improve the lives of humans and yet people are worried that their burger-flipping jobs, amazon boxing job & uber jobs are in danger of going extinct… Yes, and that is a good thing. We no longer live in times of witches, ghosts & Goblins but people still love dystopia & horror fantasies that they project onto technology. What will kill more humans than anything is their own unchecked anxiety & stress about everything...people need to relax and enjoy their air conditioned life & Stop fearing a Boogeyman for once.

    • The sudden prominence of "metaverse" in discussions about Mark Zuckerberg may be due to his recent interest in and announcements about the concept. Zuckerberg has expressed his vision for Facebook to become a metaverse company focused on building immersive and connected virtual experiences.

  • this sounds like anti-closeness instead relying on AI to replace human beings....meaning eliminating genuine "human connections"....and rely on technology

    @MichelleCarithersAuthor@MichelleCarithersAuthor7 ай бұрын
    • It is important that we recognize that technology is a tool that should complement or enhance human relationships, not replace them. High-tech virtual experiences and artificial intelligence interactions can never fully replicate the depth and complexity of real human relationships.

    • Haha, I totally agree! This host is really better than Emily Chang. She showed a higher level of professionalism and charm in hosting, which made people get into it. Compared to her, Emily Chang seems a bit bland. There is no doubt that this host is a shining star and deserves our appreciation and praise! However, everyone has different preferences for hosts, this is just my personal opinion.

  • The key idea of the video is that AI breakthroughs and the development of the metaverse will revolutionize industries and daily life, with a focus on creating a more connected world through virtual reality and holographic technology. 🤖 00:00 AI breakthroughs are transforming products and industries, and there will be multiple AI systems for different purposes in our daily lives. 📺 01:01 The metaverse enables VR experiences that make people feel physically present with others, while future glasses will enable interactive holographic conversations, blending human connection and AI interaction for a more connected world. 👀 02:25 In the future, virtual reality headsets will allow us to seamlessly blend the digital world with the physical world around us. 👓 03:13 Glasses with holographic technology could potentially replace objects we interact with daily, but the challenge is developing powerful glasses that are mobile-friendly and suitable for live interactions. 📝 04:50 Building a successful company like Meta requires the right people and culture, which is challenging as the company scales. 💡 06:27 The key to success is not focusing on competitors or ideas, but rather on executing efficiently and continuously improving. 🤝 07:35 Competition is about self-improvement and building better things, learning from competitors, being humble, and honing ideas to make things better. 👊 09:04 Mark Zuckerberg enjoys competing in sports like Jiu Jitsu and is looking forward to participating in an MMA competition next year, but he doesn't think a fight with Elon Musk will happen.
