Truck steel beds are vented so they can drain water from them. My GMC has the vents along the front of the bed. The tail gate also doesn't seal out dust. The tail gate is where most of the dust comes from. While moving, the rear of your truck creates a vacuum that draws dirt onto the rear of your truck. I have a fiberglass shell on my truck. The company that sold me the shell offers a peel and stick rubber gasket for the tailgate. The front of my bed I just uses a peel and stick rubberized gasket they use to set window frames in RVs. You can buy it by the roll. You can have a friend use a flash light at night on the outside of your truck while your in the bed and spot all the unsealed areas that are letting in the dust. Thanks for a very informative video. Good luck :)
Finally a video with full description! Thank you for your great work explaining the Project M.

I just saw 2 of these this past weekend on the road and was wondering about them. Great video and review
Favorite video showing this camper. Great job 🤙🏽
Warning: This is a long comment. A Detailed review for sure, but you made some errors about several things, 2 simple ones are: 1) the motor home was a Class C. Class Bare based on what starts out as a van, not a cab & chassis. 2) slide in campers will almost always keep the tailgate in the truck unless the Camper itself has a specialized step,& or the rear tail lights etc incorporated into the back of the camper. The information on the Project M is spot on as far as I can tell. Nice review for sure! I love seeing the comments saying this is not a budget item, and in away, I understand, but compare it to a slide in model,,,,,,,. Comparing it to a fibreglass topper is a bit off the mark as well. This is built very differently, has full insulation in the walls (you can get insulation for the fabric portion as well). It is heavier than a regular topper, but the room and king size bed is wort the difference. The power unit in here is fantastically expensive mind you. You can build your own battery box for about 1/2 the cost with double the AH in the battery or more! You pick and chose your accessories. I am buying one as I like the design and how light this is. It’s mounting directly to the box will be so much more stable. I have designed a 30” bed plan on the passenger side, it is in 2 pieces and insulated to the outside. The compartments are all drawers. The refrigerator will be attached on the top slide and there will be 2 more slides on it, the middle for the stove, the outer one is for the sink system. The bed is overtop with the top plywood being a lid for interior access to the refrigerator. The half towards the front will just be bed and drawers. The drivers side will just be shelving that fits under the ledge that’s part of the camper. It will be going into a 2022 F150 Lariat SuperCab with 2.0 KW ProPower Onboard and the power tailgate. The shelves will be on top of the 2 pieces of plywood flooring with insulation underneath. There will also be 150 watt solar on the unit (it’s so much cheaper to do it yourself) going through a 30 amp Charge Controller with Bluetooth and the battery will be a 240 ah LiFePo4 “lithium” battery. This will power the camper accessories like the fans, all attached lighting, and any extra 12 volt accessories. The refrigerator will be plugged into the truck’s 110 outlet with the ProPower on so even if it sits for most of the day, it has guaranteed power. The solar and battery would be just enough to guarantee this as well, but better to have redundancies than only just enough. I originally ordered an F150 without the power tailgate, but watched a review that addressed the ways to get in and out and closing up or opening the camper. I don’t want to climb over that tailgate all the time. I’m older, retired and have a terrible back. I can afford it so why not? The reason for this camper is it’s lightweight, I go into some pretty sketchy trails to get to some pretty decent fishing locations so I don’t worry as much about being top heavy, and I can get under more trees without having to take out the pole saw. (I predominantly fish/camp on private land so the option of trimming the trees is acceptable/legal). Everything will be built out of oak and maple veneered plywood with 2 tones of stain. All edging will be finished with 38 inch deep wood strips and not iron on edging. The strips of wood will stand up so much better. I’m pretty excited. I have taken all the dimensions I need from a 21 F150 on my buddy’s lot at his dealership. The wood I already had, I’m waiting on the hardware, battery and solar panel and I’m good! I already have a Dometic refrigerator to fit the build. All in I will spend very near the cost of a standard camper without a pop up. No where near the cost of a Four Wheel slide in pop up camper. I guess it’s a budget unit. The thing is, I will be near $100,000 CAD vs over $200,000 for a Sprinter van 4x4 conversion like is done by Winnebago. It’s a budget build only missing a tiny cramped toilet/shower on the interior. I will have the Instant hot shower on the rails on the outside of the camper on the drivers side, and an awning on the passenger side. I will have 1 gas can and 2 or 3 water cans mounted on the outside. Haven’t decided quite yet. So much you can do to fully personalize these units!!
There's tons of space inside and the fact that you can stand in there and move around is fantastic.

Excellent video. Everything is detailed to the ”T”. I’m going to order one of these, then have it set up with all the toys!!!!!🤙🏼 Thanx for the info!!!!
Thanks for the very thorough review.
The most informative and helpful video I’ve seen!👍. Thank you
Great job showing it. What is your height to top of bed rails. Or alternatively how much does camper adds to height of the truck.
Great review. I am building my own camper along the same lines (Extended top only) and this has given me ideas on what to do, and what NOT to do. I appreciate what you've shown us.
I would be interested in watching your construction as it develops, but I can certainly understand why you wouldn't much want to bother with the filming process either.

I have a 1/2 ton RAM with a 8 foot bed. I bought my Project M because it was light enough for a 1/2. I think Mule, who was my dealer, hadn't installed a Full Size on a 1/2 ton very often. They had done Medium size on a Tacoma. Believe me the Full Size on the 8 foot bed is the cat's meow.
I'm just not one for truck campers except the Scout Kenai. Which I saw your video for and thank you for that! I just took a gamble watching this but this Project M looks very promising. There are so many ways to work with all that space. Glad you you made it through those storms! Your alterations are DEFINITELY something they should consider! Thank you KIMO365!!

Thank you for all the detailed information. Do they have an outdoor trash can accessory that you can attach to the railing?
Thank you for the great info 👍👍🏁
Great dance move.... lol... that gets you a thumbs up and a subscriber... and i do like the four wheel campers... Thanks for the solid info and sharing... . Me at about 5'5" the visuals were great...
I have a bed rug in my Tundra with an ARE cap. I’ve had it since I bought the truck. I love it. I haul bags of chip, chain saws, gas cans, dogs, tools everything then just take it to the car wash to vacuum. If it gets really dirty I just pressure wash it out at the car wash with a wand and some soap, rinse then just park it on a hill in my yard, block it and let it drain. You would LOVE a bed rug in there. It will give your camper a whole new look and feel. Awesome upgrade.
I have a bed rug with a ARE on my tacoma and i like the use those small dividers with velcro on the bottom. Sticks good and holds my laundry basket in place for grocery bags

very helpful ...how easy is it to shut the tailgate from inside the truck? any ideas on making this easier? pull ropes? love it !
Excellent commentary. Thank you
Truck wrap is insanely cool 🤘🏻💯
Best review ever!!! The details along with the measurements were very much appreciated!! You actually did a review of the topper instead of just talking about how you would use it. Thank you.

I like that, super cool camper top. I’ll have to check into one of these, Appreciate you sharing I’ll be following for more information
Check me out in April new videos on Flatbed coming
Damn I like the idea of these! This is made for camping and working with a truck. Mountains, desert, everything in between! Gotta get one for a F150 Lightning! I've been happy with my ARE topper, but this would be so much nicer. And with a Lightning and Jackery or 2, would not need the AGM battery sticking up and costing a lot. Also great to hear no leaks in Tetons storm.
I will be doing the same with a Lightning. Also, no need for a Jackery, as the Lightning is basically a giant battery!

Hello great vid. Do you have plans or measurements on how to make the end brace locking mechanism? The bit that lifts but locks in place. Just trying to figure out how to make mine. Cheers.
What engine is your your f150, and what mpg with the topper?
Thanks for the knowledge share!
Great review, spot on about the ER hatch window, I would prefer the access to my truck. I would love their Flatbed Option which is on another level.

@KIMO365 Wrong! Robin Williams took his RV off-roading. 😅
thanks for sharing , thats a nice one
Nice and informative presentation.
very good your videos. I'm building a camper and the information is very important.
That was a very good review!
Just happened across your video/ channel. I didn’t know this style was available. I run a LEER so I can use my bed for, well... truck stuff. This is a great option or upgrade to what I use currently. Good video.
Ty for watching
Hi, I love your video. I would like to build my own. Can you tell me where I can get the Popup system where the bed is?
About the tailgate drop…the Lariats and above come with a “special” hinge and gas shock that’s installed behind the passenger taillight. If you drive a XL or XLT, based on the vin, dealer will claim unavailable, I gave them a lariat vin from their own lot and ta-da, available. Took all of 10 min to install all under 70$ ( hinge and strut) . Do it- you’ll love it.

Thanks for your information. 💪👍🙂
Dude...awesome video! The dance moves are epic!
Brilliant video, thanks a lot!!!
Very very thorough!
That's what I like about this setup. You can use your truck as a truck most days of the year and go camping when you want. And I was thinking something like a foam rubber strip running around the top of the bed before the install would have made a good air seal. It may have prevented some of that dust.
We have a bed cover on an F150. It seals with rubber. The seal does a great job however the tailgate has air gaps all the way around and lets lots if dust in as well as the ability for bugs to come and go. I assume his issues with dust are similar to ours. Terry
Hi, Just read yr comment Great spot. Nice setup. Look at my setup for Australian conditions Like, share and sub Cheers Out There Touring
Run some seam sealer all around the inside of your pickup box you can see the gaps all around the bed at night with a flashlight
70 bucks you can get the for dampener easy install just remove your rear brake light assembly bolt in the short gas strut. Then your tailgate won't open smoothly
great informative video.
Amazing..... I really want to build one too.
Great review & walkthrough. Very thorough. I think this is what I am looking for. I see they make them in an 8' bed size, yeah! I am selling my pull behind camper & a slide in camper, too much fuss factor with water lines & such. I find myself using water out of a can & sleeping bag, so why have all this extra stuff? I want to set up my camper for my needs & make it more modular. Take the things I need for a given trip & leave home things not needed. My friends think I'm nuts, but minimal is the way to go.
After seven years with a campervan, I totally agree with you. I built it myself and changed the interior design EVERY year trying to make it perfect for lots of different uses. Now I have made it " modular" I can empty the entire floor area in less than 10 minutes. Or just have a few things, depending on needs. It's the future. You are on the right track, not nuts at all. ( as a bonus, if the van breaks or gets trashed, I can transfer my modules to another van in no time at all.)
Wrong

Wow. Me being disabled be more tuff climbing in but thats nice I just got me toy hauler cause I could afford it. But need ramp to load stuff my grill its not small lol. But wheel chair and electric scooter. But I wish ide seen something like this few years back. I could have used for fishing nights or weekends. Scared to no how much it cost. Lol. But wow. Thanks for sharing. God bless
Very nice #camper on a budget
Awesome info and video!
Great info Dude. Thanks for sharing.
Thank-you for watching
your review is excellent,,,
Excellent presentation!… what’s the name of the truck wrap and where can I get it done?…thx
Love it really cool! That's what I would get.
I just saw a review on a 25ft Sunseeker and It was phenomenal. Mahalo Cuz.
Do they make this type of camper that extends over the tailgate? An extra 2 feet might help.??
Watched again. Always give me more positive ideas what I need to do for a single guy This way I could pull a boat or side by side unit My question Do you have any additional ideas you have installed or know of others that have made the M into more useable space to sleep or live in? Maybe a diesel or type heater? A hot water heater for showering? Like they put in vans I like the idea of simple I don’t need or want a full rv like many other models. I think this would be a great project too items as I go I like the pop up part and insulation sides Definitely don’t need all those windows. Can a thicker memory foam mattress be installed with the fold down feature? My truck is a 2008 Chev Duramax with a 40 gallon aux fuel tank installed at front of box This is needed as 2008 OEM was only 26 gallons Think I could build around it and make it useful as a platform but still get access to full tank and tool box This a great video. Thanks

I'd like the option of sleeping with the top-down for stealth city camping.
Glad you had a great trip! Note that the solar on the roof is a 160 watt Overland Solar panel.
Ty guys so much really 160 was ton what's the max you can put up there?
Great job, sir Lol At the dance moves though.
Lol ty for watching
best review. thankyou
AC unit?? I want to install one inside,, is it capable???
Do you get any dust going into the inside? Thanks
Really liked how you took out the tape measure. I'm 6'3" and I see all kinds of reviews where people say they have plenty of room and I'm left not knowing if I would have enough room.
...especially when a tiny mexican is doing the review
I have two question dose it come with Jackets, so when you want to remove the camper Project M can you jacket it up to remove . So you can store it on your property ? and how hard is it to put back on your truck when you want it back on ? by the way you did a great job tell us how to use the camper .
Sold me with that Floss game
How do you secure yourself at night?
I’m definitely going to get one. But house maintenance first. And recuperating from spinal problems. Late 2023, I’m ordering. Maybe early 2024. (At least before I’m 80 years old!)
I am close to your age. My thought was how hard is it to get into the camper over a tail gate then how do you get into the bed? In my younger days I had a six pack overhead camper and it was a bit dangerous on my rickity ladder to get up in that bed and a pain if you had to get up in the middle of the night. And if you are going to get one, order it now because it takes forever to get one. I am getting a high shell and making my bed on the floor to access easily.. I dont need to stand up.
Thanks that was great.
Very nice presentation!! Really liked it when you showed the interior room with and without the top/roof up and down!! Nice touch. Excellent review and nice commentary both pro's and cons. I like the way you think. What's the cost, out of the door?? Thanks for sharing.... best wishes.... Ax
Ty for the comments the 4 wheel campers site does a great job in showing prices with any add ons
I live in Canada, and I contemplated buying one of these along with a scout Olympic, I'm wondering what's the condensation like when it gets quite cold? Will you also be able to stay warm at night when it gets below freezing if you have an external heating system. Like a Mr Buddy heater or an Olympian Wave 3?
You just put in diesel heater and is going to be fine, or one of those wood burning mini fireplaces.
Thanks for the video. Do you have any problems with your nav or satellite reception since the Project M covers up the reception modules? Thanks and safe camping/trucking!
Hi, Just read yr comment Great spot. Nice setup. Look at my setup for Australian conditions Like, share and sub Cheers Out There Touring
I like your dance moves Lol. Surprised no one else mentioned it.
Difinitly a nice build!
8:49 😂 my man has moves. Thanks for the great review. Definitely made me want to run out and grab one. Did almost everything you showed come with it? For example, the four L.E.D strips on the inside roof. And maybe I missed it, but I don't think you mentioned the price. Once again, thanks for the info...
We need something like this in Australia
Does the window in front open to clean the cab window?
nice review and not a bad all in one toper/camper but for my ideas and plans i'd need to make to many modifications to suit me and my truck for it's price point. but going to save to video for future reference and consideration if things change for me.
I’ve got a 06 Chevy avalanche with a 5.5’ bed … any option?
After seeing these in person, the quality and build is very subpar. Look at your shelves, they are warping , the hardware is Home Depot and the use of self tapping fasteners is everywhere. This is the kiss of death once you drive washboards and looks like typical cheap assembly like every other RV you get from Indiana. The black tread plate is the thinnest aluminum tread plate I've seen, more of an appearance of armor than actual armor. The 60" bed is awesome but I cannot justify the cost for such poor design that I know will not last offroad.
Agreed. $10,000 for the base alone is a crazy price.
The dance at 8:50 made my day! 🤣❤️🙏
Watching this for the 4th time, now taking notes. This is likely my final choice based on this video's review, measurements, no stress price point, and utility. Salamat po!
Awesome thanks
Dude…. Literally none of the stuff you said comes “standard” actually comes standard. They’re all add-on options. Lol
XD
I think you're right. If I'm not mistaken. This things standard model is a shell.
You are absolutely right. Almost everything is an option that adds up to the base price considerably. Also, you have to wait a lot of time if you order one.
Literal and
Literal and cames
My back yard… lol loves it
Thank you brother
Super Nice.
Love u man, I build myself one
Gas struts my friend. Hydraulic struts usually have a separate hydraulically fed system which needs to be serviced from time to time and is generally used for heavier applications because they are air over hydraulic.
Great video!
Ty cheers I got one for the flatbed as well
Would one of these fit a dual cab triton?
Good video. Direct and to the point.. Its just a idea, but what if they made the bed slide to the rear with a option of two separate sleeping areas and standing room in the middle?
Hi, Just read yr comment Great spot. Nice setup. Look at my setup for Australian conditions Like, share and sub Cheers Out There Touring
❤ thank you
Nice camper shell...you could have a slide out drawer kitchen system...on one side shelves above.l....fridge slide on other.....in bed transfer tank/ toolbox across front , with 20ovah battery for your 400 watts of solar with all your controllers inside , control panel mounted ....cassette toilet , shower off rear hatch...add a 270 awning....I want it...what's the weight rating for roof,...can it carry my fishing kayak....good review...!
Good idear
Great review! 10k for a shell though? I hope the quality is excellent!
I want it!!!
Ho cuz I just watched ur video, we love that topper, mahalos, and subbed too, awerite!!!
April will be a new adventure!
Will this work on a 5.5' bed?
I went to thier website and the first thing I saw was 11k. I think for that much I would rather go with the alu cab camper.
What is the weight limit when in king bed setup
That M starting at $10,000 isn't budget in my book.
a snug top fiberglass camper shell over 3k . I wouldn’t pay that either especially when ther isn’t any space or features.
Price is stupid IMHO. I guess I am too old to overpay for things like this. Thats a $3500-$5000 topper max imho. Its slighty better than a tent or rooftop tent.
@@gabesvidz I bought a snug top second hand for $500 once and that's all I'd pay for one. 10k is 10 second Nova or decent 85 Yota crawler on tons to me.
@@MrGbustamante Damn skippy! I wouldn't pay the $3500 for a roof top tent either. A piece of ply on my piperack and some 6mil plastic is all I need.
@@MrGbustamante Make one with similar fit and finish for that price and I’ll buy one.
680 North in Benicia about noon today? Your rig looks even better up close.
Thank you
That’s a sweet setup. Thanks for sharing. I do have a question. I was told that the campgrounds in the national parks would not allow campers with soft sides, due to bears. Have you had any issues camping in a national park with your setup?
Only certain campgrounds prohibit soft-sided campers and they are very specific when you're doing research. It is not a policy of national parks. The only place Ive ever seen it is Yellowstone.
I was wondering if this is truly considered a soft side, since when dropped down is solid. Good question.
@@IowaKim once on the hood, a bear would have easy access to the soft portion of the camper.
@@OOICU812 You didn't answer the question, dummy.
Yeah most are homeless stinking addict bears
