Inshore kayak fishing is a great way to experience the thrill of fishing in a variety of saltwater environments, from shallow bays and flats to mangroves and oyster beds. It's a challenging and rewarding sport that can be enjoyed by people of all skill levels.
To get started with inshore kayak fishing, you'll need a few essential pieces of gear:
A kayak that's designed for fishing
A paddle or pedal system
Fishing rods and reels
Lures and bait
A cooler or insulated bag to store your catch
Safety gear, such as a life jacket and whistle
Once you have your gear, you can start scouting out fishing spots. Inshore kayak fishing is best done in shallow water, so look for areas with depths of 3 feet or less. Some good places to start include:
Bays and flats
Mangroves
Oyster beds
Bridges and jetties
Nearshore wrecks and reefs
When you find a promising spot, anchor your kayak on structure or drift the flats and start fishing. Inshore fish are often found near structure, so look for docks, pilings, and other objects that provide cover. You can also fish along the edges of channels and creeks.
For bait, you can use live shrimp, minnows, or artificial lures. Live bait is often the most effective, but artificial lures can be a good option if you're targeting specific species of fish.
Once you've hooked a fish, be sure to play it carefully. Inshore fish can be strong and acrobatic, so it's important to use the right technique to avoid losing them.
Inshore kayak fishing is a great way to get exercise, enjoy the outdoors, and catch some fish. With a little planning and preparation, you can be on your way to a successful fishing trip in no time.
Here are some additional tips for inshore kayak fishing:
Choose a kayak that's stable and has enough storage space for your gear.
Pay attention to the weather conditions and tides before you go fishing.
Be aware of your surroundings and wear a life jacket at all times.
Practice good fish handling techniques.
Release any fish that you don't plan on keeping.
With a little practice, you'll be an inshore kayak fishing expert in no time!

WOW! What a great day. This was my 3rd trip with Justin. He does a great job of setting you up for success. I'm also a Patron of CFF. Justin posts on Patreon where he launches and where to target fish. My Google maps is littered with all of his favorite spots.
Thank you Wayne. I enjoyed the trips with yall! I appreciate your support. That's a day I'll remember for a long time 😁
I really appreciate the info because this is stuff that took me years to learn by myself as a kayaker so its great to see someone explaing it this way.
It took me a while to learn too. I use to sit in one spot way too long without much success
Awesome time

Dang Justin! Those were some solid reds 🙌🏽 Has the wind affected the fishing out there? I know reds love that breezy days
Thanks Jesse! The wind helps sometimes but can be tough for a kayaker. Protected water makes it easier
I really like your ruler in this video. What is the brand and where can I purchase one?
I was using this one amzn.to/44Zpfrl
What brand of reel is the real that you’re using that is green or I should say sea foam. And is it any good
It's the Piscifun Carbon Prism. I've been testing a few of their reels out and liking them so far www.piscifun.com/collections/reels
Where are you fishing at I am near Galveston
I fish corpus Christi to Rockport Texas. These methods will work inshore everywhere though
The Best way is to get out in the Bay
and the best time to fish is when it's raining and when it's not
Its your fault that I go fishing instead of yard work.
Lol 😂 Oops!
