Today we unbox and review this quite affordable RGB gaming mechanical keyboard from HyperX. It features an all aluminium casing, comes in a nice compact tenkeyless form factor, and has the new HyperX Red keyswitches. We'll also briefly talk about the state of gaming mechanical keyboards.

I know many of you know what else is possible with mechs. I personally believe that a lot more can be done to make 'gaming' mechs actually better for gaming. After all, it is called a gaming keyboard. Let me know what you think!
More RGB!
media keys, volume scroll wheel, macro switch
What's your fav gaming keyboard?
So, how does it compare vs gateron red?
Hey Taeha! Just saying from experience, the HyperX Alloy FPS RGB is one off the most underrated mainstream keyboards and if you could make a review on it that would be great!
I think this switches actually sound really good imo
They sound like ass.
yea, they actually sound smooth for a stock switch
Yup. The only thing I came for. The sounds. Everything else, is not what I came for lmao
chrstn / mtclf can he/she have an opinion?
Rubriker he disagrees
I want a mainstream 75% keyboard that wont cost me an arm and a leg.
vortex race3 just got it and love it.
@@vallevaan It costs $150 bucks. He did say not a arm and a leg, for most people that's allot for a keyboard. Don't get me wrong it's pretty cheap compared to others.
@@ZasTheAss i just got mine 50€ off. alltought i did get the most expensive one so it still was 150€ but you can get it around 100€ if you find a sale.
Tecware phantom TKL? so far I've had a pretty good experience with it but it is my first mech (oh wait TKL isn't 75% mb)
@@ryandarshen1846 TKL and 75% are 2 different things.
finally a keyboard in my budget that isnt sending my macros to china

Love the Joker pfp
The stabilizers sounds terrible imo
I just bought this keyboard and Wow! I am so impressed by the looks of the keyboard. It feels so durable. The colours are so bright. This is exactly what I had in mind. These switches are awesome and the sound is not so hard. It’s just the sound that a keyboard should make.
Same lol Ik it’s amazing
Same, love it so far!
Sound kinda loud in the video. Im gonna pick up one today, so we'll see. If its too loud ill just go with a membrane keyboard. Its kinda hard to find a membrane, ten keyless, low profile, gaming keyboard. s important that its a "gaming" keyboard because regular keyboards have problems registering multiple keys at a time.
It’s amazing
Hello! With what switches did it came with?
Really enjoy your videos! So great to see Insurgency getting some love. I live in Australia aswell so let me know if you'd be interested in squading up some time.
U really are one of the best keyboard reviewers.kepp it up and thanks for the contents
Really simple, elegant and solid board. Well i dont like chunky keyboard in first place. Even with linear switch, the typing experience really good.
good video, as usual, keep up the good work
One of my keyboards is a hyperx alloy elite RGB and I'm totally happy with it.
I have the same one, Imo the Keyboard itself is good, but NGenuity is pretty slow, buggy and limited compared to software from Razer, Corsair, Cooler Master or even Logitech. Edit: typo
wow how lucky and as for rgb lighting, there are many options like corsair or things like that, I just want to know the lighting effects
@@hans_alderete2261 but the Corsair software isn't compatible with this keyboard, you have to use NGenuity
@@The_Linux_User yes exactly, but I wanted to know about the lighting effects not about icue, I just gave an example
Same here. I love mine, but I really want a smaller keyboard, while keeping some of the functional keys like the arrows and delete, page up etc. I can just get a numpad on the side for when I need one.
2:50 Plenty of gamers would want the F1 through F12 keys and some of the other functions
Oh my god I needed this a great review on a keyboard I am looking at

Great video as usual That would be cool to see a video about all the switches you tried and ranked them according to your liking
I ordered one bout 2-3 months ago right before corona really impacted the states. It got stopped right before it shipped and I am still waiting for it to ship here in Taiwan. I am really excited for it.
Wait, is my favorite mechanical keyboard extraordinaire taekeyboards actually a gamer?
Thanks for the disasembly. Can consider this keyboard after regretting my gen 1 Hyper X Alloy board and its wire stab space key. The wire has been a dust magnet.
I know that pain bro (I have it as well and typing on it is awful nowadays)
Great video! Can the switches be replaced by the mx in the future? I don't know much about this, can you tell me?
i really wish that more companies would go into 75% form factor, it's basically TKL but even more compact, i had one 75% keyboard and i loved it
agreed
What I want from this board is cable rerouting capabilities with the detachable usb c along with hotswappable features, and that may sacrifice the leds to become smd, but I’m ok with that
That desk space so clean :) Great review!
Hey brother, only just came across your channel! Just subscribed. Nice to see an Aussie doing well. Would you choose this keyboard or the Tecware Spectre Pro you reviewed in late 2019? Or any others for gaming, I'd be interested in hearing about. Thanks mate!
thx for the information it was helpful:)
I wish the 96 key layout would be much more popular, it's near perfect for me in terms of size and usability. The only big company that pulled it off was Cooler Master and it was quite some time ago and still, a lot is to desire. I know they are some pre-builds out there but I'm talking strictly about those big industry-leading ones.
CM masterkey pro m?
@@lqmanhkim1089 Yup
@@Kasilias im using it and loving it!
@@lqmanhkim1089 Jelous af. No available anymore here in Europe, it seems quite as a pre-build.
Cooler Master has made some pretty good boards. Durable and simple, had one for 7 years as a daily driver.
i got this keyboard as Aqua tactile switches and honestly..it was worth it!
just got this in the mail. so far so good. yall should get one too if you dont already have one theyre awesome
@Ruhan Sohail red, and its very good i really like this keyboard
@@adriancavanaugh6085 How is it after a year? Im planning to get one and replace the keycaps with the pudding ones.
The way I use my keyboard when I type versus when I game (mainly FPS) is completely different. No manufacturer has gotten the ergonomics right yet. I'm starting to wonder if it's worth just holding a controller in my left hand and my mouse in the right.
Recently got this keyboard and it's amazing! I can recommend this because the buttons are awesome, sounds very good, very solid build. The only down side is the software still has some minor bugs but the software is not really that important. Only for RGB or custom key so this keyboard is basically plug and play.
How are the key caps? Do they wear out fast?
how is it so far? i am thinking about getting one
Is it wireless useable or do u need the usb cable ?
I really like that more companies are making their own switches. These are slowly becoming more unique and that’s great! I bet we will see more and more changes in their actual shape and form in the next few years as well.
I really like that more companies are rebranding chinese cherry knockoffs to cut on costs and keep selling their keyboards at the same price with switches that will last may be 2 years tops before they start failing!
So nice to wake up and find a TaeKB video uploaded.
i love the aqua keys on this thing

I just barely got this keyboard for christmas, and it is amazing.
I have this keyboard and i ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. Highly recommended to anyone looking for extra mouseroom, a nice aesthetic keyboard, and an overall great gaming experience.
Can you change the switch?
@@wiranditos9868 dont believe so, but the switches they come with are very nice.
@@jameslynchyyyyyyyyyy incase some of the broke or something, so i can change them
wirandito s You can try to open the board, and desolder it and prob add new switches but you’ll need to solder it back together. Too much effort, get a hot swappable keyboard if you want to change the switches
Could you review the RED5 Nova Gaming Keyboard please? I got it as a gift but I don’t know whether it’s a hot-swap keyboard and if I can put it in the dishwasher.
Im getting this for my birthday.. my first mechanical keyboard. Thank you for the review!!!
Is it good? What do ya think?
@@FrederikoCMR it's a very good keyboard,it's quiet but still has that mechanical feeling, the stabilizers are awesome except for the spacebar Wich Sometimes sounds janky, the keyboard looks amazing but it gets dusty really quickly.
@@polarisation man, I bought the keyboard some months ago, it's exactly what you told me! Thanks anyway
Hey man, what was that monitor setup you had up there!? Would love to get it...
Just bought this a couple of days ago and I love it!!
I actually just got it today from amazon and it is amazing the rgb is flawless and it is so clean and make sure to get the blue clicky switches they are so smooth
this is such an amazing keyboard! currently writing this comment using the keyboard. it feels nice while typing and the clicks are pleasant
Her Tae. I am new to the world of mechanical keyboards and also live in Australia and was wondering where you get your keyboards and stuff from. Is it all from Amazon or do you use other places?
The exposed RGB looks so good that it's not hidden in between the case. Also extremely easy to clean like this.
mane, i've eyeing the alloy origins for months but can't start throwing my money cause I'm also waiting for their double shot pudding keycaps to be available where i live and they don't seem to restock anytime at all.
Do u think that aqua blue switches might be better for Daily use, especially for gaming? Thanks for the review!
I have just the regular hyperx alloy FPS pro and it got cherry red switches and honestly it’s really good
Great review, thank you!
I have this one. it's really amazing. Switches are so smooth and reactive. Typing sound better than Cherry Mx Switches i think. I used Corsair K70 MK2 Cherry Mx Red before that.
Yeah i'm gonna definitely cop one. I currently have a Red Dragon K552 and it served me well and is time to upgrade. Are HyperX headsets good too?
@@TAnimations Hey! no i never use hyperx headseats.
@@TAnimations logitech headsets are great. Get a g pro headset or maybe give the hyperx ones a try

TGU_Talin I have the hyperx cloud stinger, and it is incredibly comfortable
I have this but with the aqua switches :) after using my Anne pro for a while I thought I would never go back to a “gaming keyboard” but I’m enjoying it right now 👍🏽
How would you rate the aqua switches? Im thinking of buying one actually. And the stabilizer? Is it good? Im using corsair right now and their stabilizer sucks ass.
Which one do you like better and why?
@@jamesbond5451 I would have to give the aqua switches a 9/10 I prefer typing on this keyboard over my AP2. The stabs are surprisingly good. I will say the enter and spacebar on mine have some rattle but I had bought one for my brother in law and his didn't sound as rattily as mine. I got my in-law this keyboard cuz he had a corsair as well and he says its a big upgrade.
@@Marrowhouse Hmm that's hard to say but Im going to have to go with the HyperX. As these are all just my personal preference :) One thing that bummed me out about the AP2 was how dim the rgb lighting is :( as for the HyperX as Tae says its super bright and I really like that. With the AP2 being 60% there was no function or arrow keys and I was starting to miss that. Loved the extra desk space but tkl didn't make it that much of a difference of lost space. My AP2 had some small ping to it when typing and the HyperX doesn't because of the aluminum frame :) So yeah, Im gonna have to go with HyperX on this one. Hope that helps :D
@@YonkersDolphin They actually made the AP2 lighting brighter and the colours more saturated in a firmware update couple of months ago
I have a Hyperx keyboard, honestly I would give it a 5 star review. I got used to the soft and quick reaction of the keyboard and it feels so light when typing too. Honestly, I made this comment because just want to type some more on this keyboard.
Came here to hopefully validate my purchase, I feel good. :) Thx
hows the stabs it sounds ass in the vid
Hard for me to say for sure. This is my first mechanical, so it all feels great and brand new to a former chiclet user.
Hey mann, i need your honest opinion, what 60% gaming keyboard would you say i should buy?
Gorillaz! Nice one :)
Will the lighting effects work with linux?
I am typing from this keyboard right now and it feels so amazing oh my god, it is like butter man coming from a razer cynosa this is so insane i can't stop typing because it feels so smooth and sounds amazing
Still working perfectly?
@@VaderYT69 yep, just like day 1. Highly recommend it if you want a mech keyboard
@@jmend2994 I'm thinking to buy this but reviews on Amazon say that the keyboard stopped working in 4 months or keyboard stopped working in 5 months

What monitor Arm do you have? It looks clean
Great review. Great keyboard. With pudding keycaps it gets even prettier
What monitor arms are you using in this setup?? Great video!
just a cheap generic one lol. dont know the brand
hyper x makes some good switches. they sound really good.
What monitors are you using in your setup sir?
bro a question, what is the best pcb? I am new at this
What kind of size or brand would be the best to buy? I don't know that much about mechanical keyboards but would really like to know which ones are the best. For the type of games, I play MOBA's and FPS games.
Hai @taekeyboards im getting huntstman mini and this keyboard for same price which one should i go with?
I have the Alloy FPS (mainly got the full size for work) and after putting on white pudding keycaps, I really like it. This model looks really clean and I think their switches sound good! But yeah, I do agree the gaming companies should shift towards smaller form factors.
Nice mate!
What keycaps did you get?
Just got it for 87 euros with a prime discount, can't wait!
I have this keyboard for 4 years now and it's my first mechanical keyboard and i have to say i had absolulety no issues with the keyboard so far, it's solid and i'm a huge fan of Hyperx products, i have the keyboard, mouse, headset and honestly i feel like this is the best price/value product company available now
The keycap wear how has it been? The video says ABS verses PBT like on some other mechanical keyboards. I just saw there is another PBT version for $20 more.

@TaeKeybards could you review the new HHKB series 3 boards.
i personally hate the twangy sound after each key stroke, I'm a huge fan of reds but on this keyboard the better option imo is the aquas, theyre not too loud and the give the perfect sound I just love them so mcuh
This is exciting. Razer has been doing their own. Excited to see what hyperx is gonna come out with
Is there any chance you would check out the Glorious GMMK in the future?
Do you have a long term review on this hyperx alloy origins core

in terms of typing experience, which is better, this or the Anne Pro 2? both are similarly priced here in my country and i can't decide which one to buy.
What monitor stand is that cause it looks clean and im trying to find one
im thinking wether i should get this or the apex pro tkl what do u think i should get?
hey, it has a screw in the center of the back sticker and two others under the small pads, that's why it didn t work. great videos!
hey bro does cherry mx red silent can fit in this keyboard? i cant find any info about people being able to change the switches on this keyboard (not using the hyperx ones( for a future upgrade) ty in advance :)
How do you change the rgb without the software

hey guys im new to the keyboard scene and probably watched all of the budget videos on this channel. unfortunately most of them are out of stock. do you guys know any affordable yet decent 75 percent keyboard available for singapore and/or philippines? Thanks!
Aren’t there extra screws under that adhesive on the back? Its there in order to ensure people warranty so if its removed the warranty will be considered gone

Hey guys I have a question. So i'm thinking of upgrading to a mechanical keyboard after many years of gaming, and due to my budget I think this is the right one. Since HyperX are using their own switches, does this mean I can only swap the keycaps that are of HyperX? Thanks.

I think you should try to make a video on how to make your wired keyboard a detachable one with modifications. Like I have a Redragon K552 and I would like to see a video on doing that for me to follow. Cause I want to make my keyboard detachable.
