I may be considered one of their original “test subjects”. I suffer from chronic pain and a condition called spinal stenosis. About 7 years ago (I think), it was almost impossible for me to sit and work for more than 20 minutes at a time. I live in San Francisco and happened upon these guys, who had a tiny showroom in a work share building. I tried it out and it seemed that it could work for me. While there are many, many things I don’t like about it, including the undersized, wobbly desk, I can safely say that it has allowed me the ability to work for hours at a time doing audio and video editing, writing, Zoom meetings, etc. I do not believe my productivity would be 25% of what is has been, if I didn’t own this desk. Additionally, I had a support issue recently and they took care of it almost immediately. When I say “test subject”, I simply refer to my being an early adopter. I have been given no compensation of any kind, and I paid the full retail price. Although, I believe that was closer to $5,000, when I bought it. I think it’s funny that much of their marketing has been “hipster” based; as in to companies looking to attract high end talent by offering the chair as a perk. If this were looked at more as a medical device, perhaps in conjunction with insurance coverage, I think they’d be hitting the nail on the head. The younger, healthier me would have zero interest in this product. But the rickety, broken me, couldn’t appreciate it more.

Being on your webcam like that reminds me of a client I met with once. His company builds sensors for commercial robotics applications and he actually set up a full size commercial robotic arm in his office with one of their sensors and a webcam on the end and programmed it to track him around his office when he makes calls. It also has a mechanical gripper on the end so he can push a button and the arm will swing around and pour him a drink from the bar and then set it on his desk. The only caveat is all the bottles have to be open ahead of time.

I have thought of this so many times, it would be awesome
What I did is I purchased a hospital bed tray that the table that lifts tilts and locks. Reversed the wheel assembly so they face outward and attached some weights to the end of the wheel support frame to prevent tilting attached a 1 x 1 x 1/8 x 6" lg aluminum angle to the table, so my laptop won't slide off, laid on my recliner and rolled over the hospital bed tray with my laptop on it then adjusted the height and tilt. I have a flat pillow on my lap with a thin hard cover book for my mouse pad. There I have it my version of $8,000.00 altwork station. Lazy boy recliner and hospital bed tray. For home use.
It's sad that no one could test this with back pain in your team, I mean it's good no one has it, but being stuck with herniated disc it's been really hard to sit even 10 minutes on regular chair, so laying and working is the only alternative(assuming you don't fall asleep). About hands. I don't know why would they not add a feature to tilt desk at 75º so you hands could be straighten up. Also, trackpads are better than mouse in that case, because you can use trackpad using your finger, not moving your whole arm and when you remove your hand, it's just there, not falling like a mouse.
Using the correct settings, I use my Logitech MX 5500 Revolution by pretty much only needing to move my hand, not my arm. Just turn my wrist, and I can move the cursor from one end to the other end of my 32" monitor.

I'm personally happy to see folks that are honest reviewers and not just sellin products cause pay offs. Right off the bat when I looked at that, it looked very uncomfortable. My father's Bariatric wheelchair wasn't very comfortable though and it was built for someone to almost live out of the chair. In fact, the cost of this one is almost same as his chair was. The biggest differences is that instead of mobility, letting him drive around at speed of light jogging, you got the computer parts that plug in and isn't meant to move. I'm bit curious as to the weight of this behemoth of chair. My father's was around 500lb without him in the seat and that thing looks like it's holding up almost as much metal and misc electronics as his chair did. Honestly, I think I could make something for 10th of the price easily and be just as comfortable, if not more so. Heck, if wanted comfy chair, I could just use my Lay-Z-boy recliner and have the armature mounted onto the side of it. That's far more comfy, an cheaper than that thing looks to be, plus has enough room on it for that scene with the kid :P (Bariatric size chair)

This is the kind of straight forward reviews that I've been missing from ltt,
I like the fact that you can use it for entertainment like laying back while watch movies or youtube content and that you can use it as a work desk while sitting upright.
As some one who dealt with slipped disc, which meant sitting for more than 10 minutes was so painful that I some times wished I was paralyzed lower back down, I can see what this could do for me when I needed to work for hours without being in pain. I really think this should have been advertised for the people who have to work while sitting but have bad back pain.
About to have an L5S1 fusion next week, this thing looks like heaven.
I also have neck/lumbar issues, and I realized after going down this route (not this exact chair) that it really isn't the right option outside of acute episodes. I actually went the opposite direction (qor360) and only use the above type of chair for when I do something stupid to aggravate my neck/back as continual use of this position just creates a positive feedback loop (no muscle stimulation -> more pain -> more zero-g chair use -> no muscle stimulation -> ...).
@@lynnmckenney1987 Hey, good luck to you. I had one last January on the exact same disc and it didn't help me. I'm the exception to the rule based on the numbers though and hopefully you can find some relief!
@@qwie100 This 100% depends entirely on your actual injury. My spinal injury hurts me literally every day, all the time, and there are "acute" (called flare ups) episodes but those come from sitting or doing something for an hour plus that I can't do. If your condition deteriorates to where sitting even in a good Herman Miller chair hurts you, which I genuinely hope it doesn't for your sake, then laying back and working is really the best way to do it all the time except the very best days.
@@tonymorris4335 Everybody is different so I was giving another perspective that gives an opposite approach for a similar problem (sever chronic daily pain). And I actually had the HM Aeron (full setup and everything) which was exacerbating my condition and ultimately got rid of it. I somehow missed this video. I thought it was a new one. Being able to rotate the entire chair would negate the need to actually have such a huge turning circle for the desk as well, which is also a good bonus for size requirements for the room you'd need for it. Add in some shock and dampening systems on the arms to absorb all the wobbles and you are absolutely golden, you could use it in all positions. A trackball is an absolute must for this though. No mice need apply. Get out of here mice! Although that was a pretty good simple hack solution. The company could probably add something like that in to the documentation as an official recommendation, same with the keyboard idea for particularly heavy keyboards. Stronger magnets runs the risk of not getting the damn keyboard back off, or damage, which wouldn't be good.

While working the only thing I can do is lie in my floor, go to my hands and knees in the floor or crouch between clients. I'm miserable and my productivity is a fraction of what it used to be before my issues. The stated drawbacks in this video are insignificant if it makes it so I'm working with at least reduced pain and can increase my productivity. I'm a nurse so bedside is no longer an option. If this can keep me working and avoid going on disability and continue to provide for my wife and kids this is a solid option. I'm hoping to be trying this soon. Glad to see a competitor for Obutto and others. Would need HOTAS mounts and wobble-free typing to seal the deal, though. Obutto accomplishes this by removing whole-system recline and mounting displays to a separate standalone frame that overlays the chair frame. Keyboard arm sadly still wobbles, but display wobble would be utterly maddening.
i have a similar working/gaming position, sitting on my sofa, around 110 degrees with feet on a stand and then a thin woodboard above my legs with keyboard n mouse, its soo perfect.
I broke my back in the Army 4 years ago and now all 3 segments of my spine are having problems. I'd give my left leg for this desk
i hope the "I'm walking here" was an intentional reference.
We need a sphere frame where anything mounted can swivel with you, in a seat, in the center. Perhaps a double sphere frame where the inner frame will swivel, turn, tilt; with you, and the outer frame will keep stationary electronics(speakers, desktop pc, etc.) stationary. Though there would be a big problem with wires and cabling, wireless power may be a solution.
Well yes Linus, if you keep your elbows locked at 90° and try to type vertically, you're going to start feeling blood loss in your fingers. Instead, leave the keyboard on your lap when you lie back. You'll quickly notice having your arms straight instead of bent is actually very relaxing, and it's not like you really _need_ to see your keyboard or mouse at any point. Tadaaaaaa! Bliss. I use my laptop lying flat on my back, with the laptop on my ribcage, a wireless keyboard behind it on my lap, and my trackball on the bed next to my leg. The relief of being able to use a computer without the constant hassle of limb inertia pestering me all the time is 90% of why I love lying down more than sitting up.
As someone with 5 slipped discs, hot damn, this would be a dream come true.
Shit, how did that happen, if I may ask?
@@RsKnDR0991 I'm 90% sure it was due to just being a little too careless in my previous physical labor job. @@urlgrrrl thanks a lot. This helps. I live in Germany and there is no chance of trying it out first. Thank you for your time 👍🏻
When you said someone internally, immediately thought of Dennis
Just make sure to sell it to him as "minimalistic" first.
He can attach his foot and shoulder massagers to it

Ahhh yeah, found my new chair! ... to the "I'm not getting married anyway" person... There is the alternative, "screw it, I've been married over a decade and can put it in the garage" chair.
Yooo! Love ur content man
@Tomaxy XD nice
LTT x CTT crossover when?
Hahaha this chair is almost as useless as Linux LOL

If there was an option that leaves the keyboard & mouse arm in the over the leg position as you start to recline that might be nicer then having it raise in from of you. That way you wouldn't have the blood draining from your arm effect. I have my computer setup to the side of my couch that has built in reclining and can attest that having the keyboard & mouse on a lap desk while in the reclined position works pretty great, now granted my main monitor is the TV and its not raising above or adjusting position at all when I recline but typing and using the mouse while looking up wouldn't be an issue and then you don't have to fight gravity.
This looks like the chair from Grandma's Boy where the dude comes into his office and he's reclined in the chair programming and blasting music. "Does it scare you?" "No, I just don't like techno." "You would if you had robot ears."
I've been thinking about getting metal legs...but I might just get this chair instead! lol
Linus: "Do you smell that? Smells like..." Me: "A Segway?" Linus: "Bullsshh" Me: "Same thing"
This one made me chuckle so hard my dog ran to her other bed in the other room xD xD xD xD

I've been thinking about getting this due to being in an accident but I've found using a standing desk for most of the day has worked well enough for the moment. It didn't seem too bad in the lying down position and I'd probably have the keyboard and mouse in a lower position. It still looks good but there's some great information in this video for consideration such as it being wobbly.
What d
I've been wanting an AltWork chair for literally years now. For a long time you had to be in Cali to buy one. The shaking is something I didn't expect, but I guess makes sense.
The Acer Thronos looks like a much better version imo. To be fair it's also twice the price so it better be lol.
I literally could build that as far as the frame is considered by just TIG welding that stuff together and it'll probably come out more comfortable
That ain't just a gaming chair..that a whole orthodontist appointment!
6:44 Sadly Jarod Nandin passed away due to "current world events" not to long ago. He was apparently a really cool and down to earth guy.
i was about to say it... yeah the wow guy had already passed

Christian Finnish Frostiis Thank you for sharing since people with lower back pain issues really need these. These are the future !
I feel like you missed the "in between" stages of the chair. Going fully horizontal isn't practical, as you showed, however even a 15-20 degree tilt can relieve TONS of weight off of your lower back.

for the mouse, I would grab one of those gaming mouses with the adjustable weight sets, and swap the weights out with some same or similar sized magnets just from amazon
Reminds me of the dentist where they lay you down and play a movie on the screen.

As someone with lower back pain and no desk chair, I'm basically confined to my bed for computer work and would _kill_ to have a workstation like this.
cant use standing?
You should try out ergoquest's zero gravity chair (XL). Defo no wobbles there
Something like this but leans back not nearly as far, but enough for nice support, and just no real monitor arm, designed for using VR for monitors. So a headrest designed with VR headsets in mind. Could be amazing.
As someone with chronic back pain I would love this! I use a recliner and lap desk at the moment because it's YNt only relief I get
The guy from the movie Grandmas Boy had this! “I am a genius.” Robot matrix dude
That chair is actually cheaper than this char. It's called the scorpion chair and its about 3 grand cheaper.
Omg...love that movie. And his name is JP.

I used to make $5-20k desks and thought about getting one of these. Now I think I'll just stick with my sit stand desk. Thanks for going over it thoroughly!
I want to see you do the shooting test against Shroud completely reclined like that. Until I see that, I'll always have questions like, "is there really a significant difference between 60fps/144fps/240fps"...?🤔 This needed to be in the test!

Not to mention the drop proof $70 pillow :D
I made the mistake of doing heavy barbell squats, messed something up in my right leg - I suddenly understood the appeal of this chair. You don't really understand the muscles used to sit comfortably in a chair - the ones that hold you in position rather than sliding like jelly off it - until you mess one of them up. And you sit and think "my carreer is over and I'm going go broke and die, just because I have to do my work sitting upright rather than laying back? that's rediculous". if only there were a chair that let you lay back and do computer work...
1. Limit the positions of the chair. Doesn't need to recline the way it does. 2. Stabilize the monitor, keyboard and have the chair swivel.
