  • I have the 2019 same colour and wheels but a 1.5 ecoboost which is all you can get here in Australia. The 8 speed torque converter pairs well with the engine. Good daily driver, punchy engine and great dynamics.

  • great review, we had some problems with our Focus Active 1.5 Active at the start but that was not the cars fault. Also mention the difference in suspension setup, you have versions with a standard bar on the rear axle but, like our Active has, you can also buy them with independent suspension on all 4 corners. Nevertheless, great driving car, there is not much else you can buy for this money and drives so smooth.

  • Great review again. Wouldn't leave my mk7 golf for focus. Getting avg of 870km from 1.6 diesel at present with 70km of diesel reported left in tank when I refill and that includes motorway miles. My nephews both have Ford focuses and love them. It might be the car that rescues Ford. They didn't mess with the formula too much. Hatch backs are great. I left 2ltr an avensis tourer as seats didn't do my back favours, and fuel economy wasn't great. Miss the extra space alright but that's it. Love the comfort of golf on long journeys.

  • Great review Mark, I also owned a mark 1 focus many years ago, it still stands out in my mind as one of the best drive and handling cars out of the box, performance was ok for what it was (1.6) but it could of easily handled another 40-50 bhp. The new one looks very smart...I think ford have nailed it in the exterior looks department.

    • Has the bottom drivers door weather rubber shield hanging of yet as I have had a 2011 and a 2018 Focus and they both had the same problem if not drivers front passenger. I had been a Ford man for years but when I went to look at a new Ford Kuga awaiting collection again the entertainment screen with jumping black lines across the screen as that point. I walked away from Ford. As I have also had problems with the entertainment system. They do drive well but the rest is terrible but that’s just my sole opinion. I hope you have no problems and enjoying years of happy motoring.

  • I've just done 1600 miles in a 21 ST Line and concur with your findings. My previous new cars have been Audi's BMW and VW, A4, 330E, two A3 Etrons and an ID4. I was astonished how good Ford have made the Focus, I did have a new mark 1 Focus in 2003 and the engine was gutless. I have been driving between 100 and 200 miles per day for the last month and averaging around 50 mpg in the 1 litre Ecoboost. Due to the crisis in the Ukraine where many parts come from for the Focus, it seems unlikely you can buy a new one anytime soon. What a shame.

  • Great review Nobby. The focus I had was a great motor, it was a 1.8 tdci. It had 115hp and oodles of torque. Only reason I got rid of it was the clutch/dual mass flywheel was starting to give me bother which was known issue then and I know that the clutch/flywheel is a known issue with the 1.0 ecoboost plus I have my doubts as to how good the 1.0 engine is in a car that size bearing in mind they also fitted the 1.0 to a Mondeo! In the Fiesta yes for the 1.0 but not so sure in the Focus.

    • @@jackt7331 mine was a diesel focus which was an entirely different car and engine. My point was that Ford are notorious for clutch problems both with the diesel I had and the ecoboost petrol as in the case of the petrol it's a small engine pushing a big car so it's no wonder there are clutch and flywheel issues in that case, in my case it was because the clutch and flywheel couldn't cope with the torque.

  • So ive no experiance in the Hybrid Focus. Ive got a Hybrid Puma temporarily for a half year, you could elaborate on the electric motors in the wheels, my Puma in sport mode gets from 0 to 60 like a rocket. She too needs to be reved up, but "and ive actully done this", off the line vs a Mach 1 Mustang, you can peel off in front for a few seconds before the mach one passes. not bad for a 1lr hybrid. i too have a tiny gas tank, which does not last because i live in Sport mode. still waiting for my Fiesta ST, looks like i might get upgraded to the 22. the hybrid motors are kick ass, and the foot off accelerator "breaking" is awesome.

The Blue oval is always worth considering. And, yes far better than any of the Crossover SUV products out there. A decent 5 door hatchback far more sense! Did I see a facelifted version of Focus due for 2022. And with it an improved ST! Now that could put cat amongst the pigeons!

  • Would like to know what you would make of the mk4 Focus ST. I haven’t driven a mk4 Focus ST line but in general people seem to like them & like yourself think if this is like this then what will the real ST be like?!! I had a mk4 ST for a year. Had a MK7 Golf GTi before that. The Golf is much more refined as you would expect. I found the ST on start up is basically too loud particularly for early morning. The suspension is terrible, wouldn’t call it firm, would call it bouncy/crashing, portion of that will be the roads in my area of Scotland which are basically just a series of decaying repairs. With the adaptive suspension which is standard you can’t have the car in sport but the suspension in normal, no dynamic option which is brain dead. Even in normal the suspension on my roads is basically irritating. Found over a fair few speed bumps that the underside of the car would scrape even going very slow, have never had that in a car before. My Golf didn’t have adaptive suspension & was also on 19” wheels but found the suspension to be very good. Positive aspects of the ST was the engine had lots of torque & as standard the car is highly specced. I had our one Mountuned to 330hp which did make a noticeable difference but it did use more fuel for comparable driving which goes against the claims. We also have a mk8 Fiesta Titanium 125hp Eco Boost as well & we both really like that wee car. To replace the now gone mk4 Focus ST thinking either mk4 Focus ST Line X Edition 155hp or mk8 Fiesta ST Line X Edition 155hp or possibly a mk8 Fiesta ST but not sure if that might have a bit of the negatives that the Focus ST had but then in reviews & on your review of it doesn’t seem like it?!

  • I have just got out of a 18 plate Ford Focus 1.0L STX and to be fair it did drive well but for me that’s were my love of the Focus ends. The MPG is not great the only way I could get close to 44MPG I had to use the intelligent speed limiter plus the car had it annoying noises also I hated the black and very dark cabin and often found the car made me feel tired after a drive. I have been with Fords for many years but will not go back until they make improvements on build quality and the terrible entertainment system that froze up at least once a week. I have since moved over to a 21 plate Honda CR-V Hybrid it’s a country mile better in build quality and MPG well it’s simply amazing at 54MPG. I honestly feel if Ford don’t start listening to it’s customers they will go belly up. The Focus is a great looking car but in build quality it’s terrible give me any Honda any day of the week as they hold their value better and don’t break or even brake down just built to last. • Nice review, but the problem lays therein the "ecoboost 1.0" to think that ford actually invented the guaranteed fail engine. Wet belts? When I was growing up with fast fords and I owned a few XR3i, RS Turbo etc.. They were the cars to die for, but now... WTF Ford? You run a Timing belt in oil? Having done many belts over the years the complete warning was (on the packet) Avoid Oil on the belts...now you run them in the actual oil? This is why this engine is known as the ecoboom. Shame on you Ford!

    @crazy-diamond7683@crazy-diamond76835 ай бұрын
    • they replaced the belt with a chain now. all ecoboost engines from 2019 have the chain system. Ford very quietly updated the engine and didn't tell anyone. They didn't even tell the dealerships! The new ecoboost engines are way more reliable!

      @kingsknightuk@kingsknightuk4 ай бұрын
    • Did they? Thankfully having the 2.3 eco in my ST I sleep a little better at night. But what a stupid thing to do run 2 belts in oil. Even the Diesel version of the ST is the Transit engine and again its a wet belt. Many law suits going for ford because of the silly mistake trying to save money and weight.@@kingsknightuk

  • Sorry but I seriously disagree this is the best hatch for your money, in fact I think it’s the most overpriced hatch. Plastic interior, poorer drive and performance compared to rivals. It’s a nice looking car and reliable but it’s not the best in its class especially for the price.

    @chrisjones4863@chrisjones48632 жыл бұрын
    • It’s not even reliable anymore, even that has fallen by the wayside by Ford. Spending all their efforts on crappy electric cars therefore leaving combustible engines behind

Ford are an embarrassment these days, completely lost and forgotten what they stood for. I ha 140 Fiesta ST line, it’s shit and I’ll be getting something better so I hope
