This group needs someone with fire, and JT is just too calm. That was Sundin's only fault when he was here. As they are, Matthews during the regular season was looking like the guy, and after Game 2 of this series it looked like he was really, finally, THE guy. But now he's sick? So he gets a pass for Games 3 and 4? I hate that. But realistically everything revolves around him on the team, like it or not, so may as well give him the "C" if he wants it. Or at least if he doesn't want it, give it to Reilly who has been there forever and answers all the media questions like he is anyway. JT was really good on Long Island, willing those Islander teams to the playoffs. Unfortunately, the Leafs got the old man JT after marriage and children. After JT's contract expires after next year, he can stay if he takes a significant discount. He is still good as a role player, but clearly not the go to guy anymore.

  • Terrible trades from yesteryears is the core of the problem for the Leafs. Kyle Dubas brought more harm to the Leafs than can be imagined. Look at all the failed trades. Domi and Bertuzzi are good additions-they have heart and play tough hockey. Reeves was a mistake. So the current GM is at least moving in the right direction. Let's hope the Leafs dig deep and overcome all the angst that the press is piling on them. Believe!!

  • It's so hard to watch this team. Year after year playoff after playoff. They go into the playoffs with a top 5 power play and top 5 offense every year but once the puck drops in the spring all that elite offense disappears. All 4 of these guy ( Matthew's, Marner , Taveres, Nylander ) are not leaders and have been asked to step up for an entire team and franchise for that matter. Taveres is a great player in his prime but it was the same story when he was in NY and that is he's to quite , soft and non confrontational to be a great C in this league. Anytime there's a scrum after the whitsle Taveres and the rest of the core try to become the UN. They try to be the separation police and want nothing to do with sticking up for there teammates. Look at guys like both Tkachuk brothers , Toews for years, Stamkos when warranted they are willing to jump an opponent or drop there stick in a scrum. Shanahan gone Keefe gone Sign and trade Marner Strip taveres of the C

Nobody is going to trade us a top d-man, nobody wants any of these contracts, they guys all have no movement clauses, and we don’t have any big time goalies or d-men on the farm. They have to make a commitment to drafting and developing again and hope the next round of young guys make a difference…..
