so when fighting baton vs knife, the one using the baton should be trying to defend by attacking the arm holding the knife, not by praying the knife blade since the knife is to short. it's also a good idea to use superior range to strike at the head and ribs with the baton. if you want to really do this test properly you need to get the person with the knife in protective gear and test those things.

Probably 90% of the value would be from looking intimidating and causing the assailant to decide it wasn't worth messing with you. For that purpose, I think a flashlight with surprise taser arc setting is even better. Plus, it's just so reasonable to already be carrying the flashlight at night. Having a reason to have it out already is a big plus. That's also why the sturdy umbrella is a good option.

I'm not a big fan of the collapsing batons. I'd rather have a weapon that I can use to thrust, and batons are made to collapse when they strike something hard in a thrusting motion. However, the idea of a guard on a baton is interesting. Maybe they could add something that would lock the baton open when the guard is turned into place. That would be a very nice weapon.
@VTPSTTU Жыл бұрын
Locking batons have been a thing for years now if you don't know
@stuffguru Жыл бұрын
Well, the issue is, weapon that good for thrust motion mostly is not versatile to hide and carry around. But there's already baton with feature with automatic system in locking mode that exist more than decade ago. So when it's lengthed even showly it just locked automatically and permanently, and you just need to press the button on the bottom of the baton if you want to shorten it again. Usually these type of baton can be quite expensive. Also these type of baton is also already common to use by the Cops in many countries. But still, this type of baton with automatic lock feature, still can end up fail to handle something over-pressure thrust, so if you try to thrust object or person too hard than the lock can handle, sometimes the baton lock feature will unlocked it self because the lock can't handle pressure when it's too great. but that still much better than your typical classic manual baton that rely on friction to get locked. Also basically still the best thing you can get now as versatile combat stick.
@Ilyas-ty6cy Жыл бұрын
@@stuffguru None of the batons that I've seen advertised have had a locking mechanism. All of them would close with a sharp axial tap on the end of the baton. I know that the "lock" in place when they are extended, but they unlock and collapse when struck hard on the end.
@VTPSTTU Жыл бұрын
@@Ilyas-ty6cy Thanks, I have never seen this type of baton advertised. All of the ones I've seen have been without the button on the bottom that would hold the baton locked until released. I would consider the button to be a big improvement, but I understand how designing that system would add to the cost. Knowing that the lock system might still fail would discourage me from buying one.
@VTPSTTU Жыл бұрын
@@VTPSTTU Well, I mean, these equipment are mean to use by officer or special unit police. Of course you will never hear or see advertisement about it. But base on my experience since I also own that type of baton, the lock actually still strong enough to be used for thrust in level to actually hurt person, even yes just to make sure just not overly hard especially to hard object, even with casual strength it's actually enough to hurt person especially when hit on the chest. Also just said you did it overly hard and the baton lock collapse, then no issue, you can just lengthed again, it's locked and it's ready for another thrust. Usually a known brand that sell this baton are, ASP Monadnock, Bonowi, and NEX. But for myself I basically have some connection to buy a subsidied version that used as standard equipment for a Cops in my country. So I can get it with cheaper price with no needed to pay for imported delivery cost and extra tax.
@Ilyas-ty6cy Жыл бұрын
In concept, I like it, but I think a redesign is warranted. Rotating the guard open should act like a 'forward assist' and push the baton into the fully extended and fully locked position, and you should not be able to collapse the baton without folding the guard.
@Taolan8472 Жыл бұрын
Agreed.
@wanderingcalamity3603 ай бұрын
This. I also assumed it would lock the baton. As the weakness of baton is that it might collapses when you use it to lunge or riposte to keep your opponent at bay; which is also why one would need a guard.
@submijiru3 ай бұрын
I was thinking the same when watching the video. Why not make a mechanism that locks the batton in the open position when rotating the guard. In fact this is exactly what I thought when I first watched the video and then disappointed when I found out it wasnt as such.
@pyronic1201203 ай бұрын
I have been looking at videos of these, and I also thought the baton locked when the guard was opened until I saw this video. It's really begging for that to be the design. Why in the world is that NOT the design? Not having the baton lock creates danger for the wielder through unpredictability, shifting weight, and inaccuracy! It boggles my mind that it isn't actually designed the way it's clearly meant to be designed.

Unfortunately, all you were able to do against a knife user in a training scenario is block....as you had no training baton w/a handguard. I've found a baton to be one of the most effective LE weapons for combat scenarios within arms reach. When I used two I employ them as I would two short swords or w/one folded along my support-side forearm while the strong-side is poised to strike....two expandable PR-24's would be ideal but w/ Tactical Batons the support-side holds one in "reverse grip".

of course it is hard to block a small knife with a large bulky object. harder to swing and counter for one, the knife wielder can move faster and stop and change directions much easier and faster. hence why they train you to go after the arm rather then try to stop the knife or deflect it as 99.99% of the time you get cut if you do, where as dodge the knife attack and going after arm lowers risk of being cut. may still get cut but you then have a high chance of disarming them and ending the fight before more cuts/stabs that put you down take place. best bet is to keep your distance against a knife if you don't have a firearm or ranged taster/prepper spray. using a baton best to also go for the arm to get them to drop the knife. a good hit to the arm anywhere really will cause almost anyone to drop the knife and attempt to shield the wounded arm. unless you go around wearing gauntlets and gloves that cannot be cut/stabbed through try to avoid knifes, go for arm if you cannot avoid.

Attacking without fear of a counter allowed her to make attacks she couldn't otherwise make without sacrificing her own defense. I understand the point was to show how the guard allowed for several more blocks/deflections than the unguarded baton. It's improbable that someone with a knife would see the person with a baton and continue the fight. The double baton and kendo swords... well in Japan it'd make sense but not in Texas. 🥷🦯🔫🤠

@@trext888 😅😅😅😅
She seems kinda scary with a knife 😂😂😂
Because he’s stupid. Only defending with the baton and not utilising the range of the weapon.
so when fighting baton vs knife, the one using the baton should be trying to defend by attacking the arm holding the knife, not by praying the knife blade since the knife is to short. it's also a good idea to use superior range to strike at the head and ribs with the baton. if you want to really do this test properly you need to get the person with the knife in protective gear and test those things.
Excellent point.
Pretty sure they are testing the usefulness of the guard in specific. Obviously the baton outranges the knife and would win if used aggressively.
@@theguileraven7014 yes, but testing the usefulness of a weapon only really works if you actually use said weapon correctly
@@yamiyomizuki But they aren’t testing the usefulness of the weapon, they are testing the usefulness of the guard. If you’re just abusing the length advantage of the baton, then the guard becomes irrelevant.
Instead of ribs I would target the shins,forearms, the spine,the knees,then the neck for a knockout strike. I feel the ribs would be a trapped position if the opponent grabs your arm.
Tactical baton are seriously underestimated. When used by moderately strong person, they can easily break joints and cause concussions and potentially death. They're more lethal than wooden clubs/tonfas.
They sure are strong
I have to share this link here. Donnie Yen clear demonstration with a baton. kzhead.info/sun/kqxmY7KDoWqvgnA/bejne.html
They are also easy to conceal To take a 10inch weapon and turn it into 3 feet in a second is very tactical I believe this is a highly under rated means of protection
@@mininhawaiian2911 also shock value .....if you unsheat like professional and good stance ITS look itimidating to some .......
I agree. The other thing to remember is that most of us have two hands so a pepper spray or a stabby-pointy thing to the other hand is the way I "dance."
I own one of those so this videos was extremely informative It was a gift from a friend and I think it’s one of the best batons out for the quality It takes a bit getting used to it and hitting hard and accurate takes practice I also agree… 4 out of 5
If you're sure it's the same one, could you or your friend provide us with a manufacturer and model number of some kind?
All will be ok, if you don't cross that girl in a fight! 😆
I think it is too big so hard to carry and conceal. It is too heavy and that is why it is hard to maneuver. Mine is only 21" and that is plenty. The cross guard I would consider a liability because it could catch on something and slow deployment. Also unnecessary. Seems most people forget we have two hands so I have a pepper spray or a stabby-pointy thing to the other hand as part of my EDC. A shot of Dog and Coyote Repellent changes things up pretty tidily.
Let me know if you can send me a link. Im interested in getting one. Too many false sites.
Do you remember where he got it from by chance? The only place I've seen to have found it is from wish
If you want them to get close enough so you can use a non-projecting tazer you are already dead. If it is a projecting tazer, what if you miss or they have a thick leather jacket on. If you are willing to trade a steel rod for an umbrella, you clearly don't know what you are talking about. When I am out at night, I have a 1500 Lumen headlamp on tight focus with a baton deployable to one hand and a pepper spray or stabby-pointy thing to the other ... depending on my mood.
Baton is better. The baton user in this one uses it to test the effectiveness of the guard and try to use like a sword. They should let an FMA practitioner show them the better use of baton
I carry 3 pistols
I prefer quick smoke bombs, with ninja stars and a katana! 😂
Or instead of being the victim be the assaulter with a bottton and plead self defence
She's very aggressive. Aggression is key to victory!
Until you get over aggressive
Offense is the best defense! If the baton attacks as aggressively the baton wins against the knife because of range.
@@frankbauerful A baton is useless when you know how to handle your knife ! I will just grab it with my left hand and start the infight with my knife in the right and then I'm all over you ! My left hand might be damaged bad after that but you will be dead !
@@frankbauerful Exactly. I'm not sure what they are trying to showcase when the baton is deflecting the knife attacks. Just attack the hand with the baton and it's over.
@@VincentTamer because they have a different video for the baton. This one is just strictly to check the “usefulness” of the guard.
It’s not a sword! Why are you using it like one?? It’s more like a very precise bat. *Beat your foe into submission!💪🏾😤* Edit: Do this test again with full, proper protection and really go at it!
Locking batons have been a thing for years now if you don't know
Well, the issue is, weapon that good for thrust motion mostly is not versatile to hide and carry around.
@@stuffguru None of the batons that I've seen advertised have had a locking mechanism. All of them would close with a sharp axial tap on the end of the baton. I know that the "lock" in place when they are extended, but they unlock and collapse when struck hard on the end.
In concept, I like it, but I think a redesign is warranted. Rotating the guard open should act like a 'forward assist' and push the baton into the fully extended and fully locked position, and you should not be able to collapse the baton without folding the guard.
Agreed.
This. I also assumed it would lock the baton. As the weakness of baton is that it might collapses when you use it to lunge or riposte to keep your opponent at bay; which is also why one would need a guard.
I was thinking the same when watching the video. Why not make a mechanism that locks the batton in the open position when rotating the guard. In fact this is exactly what I thought when I first watched the video and then disappointed when I found out it wasnt as such.
I unironically saw a guy from london incorporate chainmail under his sleeves to protect himself from knife crime

Probably the cutest knife attacker on you tube. Great review
I love the edits you do with the animated blood, people play pretend too much and don´t realize that Knives are an absolute nightmare. just look how insanely she would have cut him if she was an attacker going all out, even while the baton is longer and has a ton of reach not being a cutting weapon puts you at a disadvantage vs a knife, Run first, if attacker is already trapped you then pull out this thing. GREAT CONTENT.
Often more deadly than firearms in close combat. Unlike gunshot wounds, knife wounds are deadly even on the extremities. For fun: don a long sleeved white T-shirt, give your opponent a practice knife with the edges coated in lipstick, then have at it. And see how well you can prevent being stabbed / cut.
but that baton is used for attacking, not defending. The knife is deadly dangerous of course, but that baton is not build to be used like that.
He was not attacking her. he was only doing defense to see if the guard was going to help with defense. Alos the fact that the baton spontaneously collapsed is a major point reduction. Nobody needs a flaccid baton.
@@kaasmeester5903 Lipstick on your knife? Is that some kind of gay code talk? Lol
@@lloydlego6088 I don't know... If some woman was trying to cut me up I think my baton might go flaccid too.
against a knife attacker, I usually switch into my fencing mode (I was a fencer in my youthness, sabre). Use the tip to keep the enemy at distance and smash him if he try to close the distance.
I've seen those from Chinese online sellers. They make a 21 and 26 or 28in one iirc? Just a novelty but with these things they're best for hitting kneecaps. Or breaking glass in an emergency or something.
Sometimes you guys are funny but it's always interesting material that you cover.
You two are great!
Not a bad thing to place on a baton, especially when you have a machete wielding attacker. I've served as a Law Enforcement Instructor for Firearms, OC, Hand to Hand and Tactical Baton.
I'd be interested in any more ? I'm a keen Swordsman but trying to research and retain as much information about , walking stick, staffs, alternative fighting techniques. Military police videos are a excellent source of ideas."come along".
Is easy to win if the opponent never attack, and they use a weapon that can smash an human head only for parry. In this situation, you can win with a feather.
well put he's not on the offensive at all so obviously she can hit him the guard seems kinda useful otherwise
The best defense is a good offense. Ergo, he's not defending well.
Attacking wasn't the point. The point was does the guard help defend you. Pay attention.
I had an idea for an easy carry Buckler shield, just extend the handle outward a little more than make a belt holster where you could just slide the handle inside with maybe a strap holding it in. I think it's good idea.

Well, no weapon would work unless you put it to use!! Even a shield which is meant to block is also used to push back or hit when opportunity presents itself!!
The baton is most effective when you equip a group with them to beat up a man that's lying on the ground, half unconscious.
Can the group wear uniforms and tazer the man at the same time? If so, I'm in!

Love the way you laugh when he attempted to strike you with musashi style
Could you test boleadoras? It has a similar use to rope and javelin, in the case of the set of three with strings attached (South American Creole fencing) or double meteor hammer, in the case of the individual ball, used in each hand (Argentine dance with boleadoras).

One thing that would be really cool is to go through the song in its entirety one more time after breaking down all the parts to see how it all fits together.
Baton works as an extension of your arm, it is an excellent self-defense weapon, your goal is to hit any other body as fast and as hard as you can to stop the other party from attacking you. Of course, you need to have the muscle and some experience to use it.
Problem is ur trying to use it as a sword in the wrong range…is a tool that should be used to destroy ur opponents hand thereby nullifying the attack…defanging the snake as said in kali/escrimia, then striking hamstring and thighs to put opponent down, as the woman was doing with the knife…destroy the hand
HEMA guy here, and I musty say, you have lovely techniques, I learned something new. And for baton vs knife situation, I guess, you were just guarding yourself, but one hit to hed, with longer baton is game over. Hit, thrust, longer reach...baton is superior to knife. Knife wins only as a surprise, easily to hide weapon, or while held by someone who can be way better than someone using the baton. I was surprised you let yourself attack like that. Plus, footwork, you stood there and let yourself to be hit. But I guess, it was all for a semi-eductaional purposes, and part of it was to entertain. Nicely done video, and I hope you would do more thorough research next time.

Nice video, you guy should try looking up Arnis, eskrima or any of the other southeastern Asian styles.
He definitely was not using the Baton properly. If I had that baton there is no way she could've closed the distance to use her knife.
The fact that he is guarding against a knife when he has a weapon thats 3-4 times the length of it is puzzling, the whole point of having a longer weapon is to keep range and attack from where the attacker cannot reach.
1:02 I remember when I saw Jurassic Wars. Tears of nostalgia. The laser rex was terrifying.
Any guard is going to offer some protection for the hand, but these situations are why many more modern militaries (and even civilians) started adopting complex hilts, like basket hilts. This even included the shin gunto carried by 18th century Japanese soldiers.
That looks like it'd be a fun thing to use. You can get real nerdy, really quick.

The Baton makes such a pretty sound when you open it.
A good defensive technique when using that baton against a knife is utilize the baton's longer length and hit the knife wielder.

I ordered this one, but it´s problematic. Same as in the video, it folds during use. There should be a mechanism which arrests it extended, but this mechanism is very faulty. It also sometimes arrests when extented and then you can´t fold it anymore. Unfortunately, the place I ordered it from sent no information how to contact then, not even an adress, so I kind of feel ripped of. Moreso, the add I saw showed a longer version which could have also worked as a cane for wandering. Which it is not.

Especially with small guards like that, it’s important to remember you’re not SUPPOSED to block with the the guard, but it helps protect your hand if you fuck up the block otherwise 😊
better having it than nothing hehe, and ill make the first strike if I'm sure and positive that I'm in danger, safest would be to disable or damage their ability to harm then run. I will not wait for back up.

Saw a very thin three section steel walking stick today 👀🤔. Almost looked like a "tactical baton". L- shap small grip / possible hammer point. Rubber base ( possible hidden point /ice pick point for use in ice ). If this is spring actived ? It's an excellent walking aid could be legal because the design is aimed at a mobility aid. I'd welcome it instead of carrying a stick that can scare dogs and I may not need it but it's in my hand (in my way )
Seems like training to dodge is way more effective than just having the guard with no training.
Thanks
If you are only blocking trying to catch the blade of the knife with the baton of course you will get hit, I get this was a sparring test but the techniques and focus were wrong. This is a blunt weapon is meant to break bones, do not try to block something so small as a knife, strike it instead, aiming at the hand or arm that holds it, and keep your distance you have a longer reach.
“Those who only defend, miss the opportunity to attack.” 🥋
Is there a website for the expandable baton with hand guard?
Really annoying that they SHOW the one with the Guards, then zoom in to SHOW the "Automatic" open feature that is on a Completely Different baton. STOP IT - It Makes you look Bad. The one with the Guard Does Not Come with Auto-open Feature. But it is a Very Nice Baton. If I bought another one I would go with the Medium length. I went long and it is a Monster. Would also think about the Auto-open baton but they do not seem to sale it. Edit: and the guard Cannot be Removed. Least not that I figured out.

It is like crossguard on some messers, short but with the side protection, it is not that good in pure defense, but it will protect your hand if you are offensive and attacking opponent or his hand or his weapon because of different angles.
...which is difficult to test in free or even controlled sparring due to safety reasons...

How can I purchase one of these batons
Where to get that super long sword baton with out guard?

of course it is hard to block a small knife with a large bulky object. harder to swing and counter for one, the knife wielder can move faster and stop and change directions much easier and faster. hence why they train you to go after the arm rather then try to stop the knife or deflect it as 99.99% of the time you get cut if you do, where as dodge the knife attack and going after arm lowers risk of being cut. may still get cut but you then have a high chance of disarming them and ending the fight before more cuts/stabs that put you down take place. best bet is to keep your distance against a knife if you don't have a firearm or ranged taster/prepper spray. using a baton best to also go for the arm to get them to drop the knife. a good hit to the arm anywhere really will cause almost anyone to drop the knife and attempt to shield the wounded arm. unless you go around wearing gauntlets and gloves that cannot be cut/stabbed through try to avoid knifes, go for arm if you cannot avoid.
