Trade ties and the Ukraine war dominated the agenda in talks between the leaders of Germany and China. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang in Beijing. Mr Xi hailed the cooperation between their two countries, describing it as a guarantee for their stability and the future. Mr Scholz added that he does not want Germany to decouple from China. He also pressed on the issue of the Ukraine war, asking Mr Xi to try to influence Russia to stop the war. Olivia Siong reports.

Espacally the energy intensive industries, like those producing chemicals suffered from this. If Germany wouldnt have been that independend on Russian gas, it would have been mouch easier for them. On the second hand, every export focused nation struggelt in the last two years. The weakened thies with China are just one of a lot reasons.

Germany is a way more important trading partner for China than Russia can ever become. Just look at Germany's and China's biggest export goods. Cars!!! China got into the automobil market with focus on EVs, just so they don't have to compete with Germany's disel cars. Next step was high qualified engineers from germany working with China to make chinese EVs better.

  • Mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Germany is not a "risk" The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the industrial and supply chains of China and Germany are deeply intertwined and the markets of the two countries are highly interdependent. Mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Germany is not a "risk", but a guarantee for the stability of bilateral relations and an opportunity to create a future. Whether it is traditional fields such as machinery manufacturing and automobiles, or emerging fields such as green transformation, digitalization, and artificial intelligence, the two countries have huge potential for win-win cooperation that needs to be tapped. Both sides should carry forward the distinctive characteristics of mutual benefit and win-win, achieve each other's achievements, and China's exports Electric vehicles, lithium batteries, photovoltaic products, etc. have not only enriched global supply and alleviated global inflation pressure, but also made great contributions to the global response to climate change and green and low-carbon transformation. Both China and Germany are based on industry and both support free trade and economic globalization. Both sides should be wary of the rise of protectionism, adhere to a market perspective and a global perspective, and proceed from economic laws, look at production capacity issues objectively and dialectically, and explore more cooperation. It is also said that China adheres to the basic national policy of opening up to the outside world and hopes that Germany will provide a fair, transparent, open and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese enterprises to develop in Germany.

Meanwhile, the US imported oil products worth $588 million in November, raising imports to the highest levels this fiscal.
