    • They keep records for 20+ years, now they all go to the ATF to be scanned into their "not searchable" database... If they can't search it then why scan them into the database? What good is data storage if you can't access it for searching? Oh, right, they have separate software to search it because they play games with the language and definitions... the database doesn't have search feature, but that doesn't mean it's not searchable...

    • I love this talking point--conservatives are the "party of law and order" until it comes to gun laws, then suddenly, "CRIMINALS DON'T FOLLOW LAWS, THEREFORE WE CAN'T PASS ANY NEW GUN LEGISLATION WHATSOEVER!" In that case we shouldn't have ANY laws at all, because criminals don't follow them anyway, and laws are just restricting the rights of "law-abiding citizens"!     • @@ryanpenrod1859 Point being this, first of all, use common sense. Trying to apply gun laws and compare them to homicide laws is not comparing apple to apples. One is retrieving the ability of owning a tool, and one is restricting the ability to end a persons life. Despite what a lot of the media says, guns don’t kill people, people kill people, so that’s why it’s illegal to murder a person, I would think that’s common sense, but apparently not. Now yes, on the surface the point may seem backwards, but a prime example was the church shooting in Texas a while back. Where a shooter, who illegally obtained the firearms, was stopped by a completely law abiding citizen who was lawfully carrying. Two died, other than the shooter, but had that lawful citizen not had a gun, many more would have. Were guns outlawed, said hero would not have been able to stop the shooter. So that’s the point, a criminal is going to find a way if they’re dedicated enough, but if guns are banned, then there is nobody to stop them because surprise, police can’t be there all the time. Now, like Brandon said in the video, we have issues, and they need to be addressed. However why weren’t these shootings happening 40-50 years ago? When you could literally go buy an automatic rifle from your local Cabela’s. Guns are just the easiest target, and it’s what the administration wants gone. Now would shootings go down if guns were banned? Probably, but like I said, a criminal is still gonna kill with whatever he can, by this logic should we ban fertilizer? Because that’s what was used in the Oklahoma City bombing to massively lethal proportions. Banning guns would be like slapping a band-aid on a bullet wound. It would do almost nothing to address any of the reasons these shootings are happening. Make no mistake, the government, or at least those in ultimate power, do not care about why these shootings are happening. They only care to use them to further the agenda of whoever’s in power.

  • We had an audit at our store a few months ago and they were not joking about 0 tolerance. These guys were mad about mistakes that the customers were making. All the backgrounds had to be pretty much perfect or recommended only 3-ish mistakes max. They really are trying to push out gunstores around the country. They said if we have any mistakes again the next time we get audited. Sucks because I know there will be at least one and there goes 40+ years of an honest loyal business.

  • It just happened to me. I went into my audit confidently. I am meticulous with my record keeping. The ATF agent was courteous and professional. After verifying every serial number in inventory against my A&D book, we go through every 4473 line by line. Then it happened. He spotted one minor error. His face completely changed. "I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do about it. It's over and you can never reapply." I did not even understand what he was talking about initially. Then he hands me a piece of paper explaining the revocation process. He said in the past, it was the sort of mistake that we would just correct on the spot and move on. I turned in my A&D book and all of the 4473 files last week. Part of my soul died that day. I was not a "rogue gun dealer." I am an honest man who tried his best to conduct his business legally. It doesn't matter if citizens keep their right to bear arms if there are no dealers or manufacturers left.

  • My brother works at a gun store, and he came home one day and started talking about this. Apparently something as simple as calling a brace a stock can get you in serious trouble. They’re looking for any little mistake or screw up you could make, to shut down as many stores as possible. Your taking a risk here Brandon, you’ve gained even more respect from me.

  • As a FFL dealer, here's my two cents. In the state I live in, it's perfectly legal for a private transaction to occur between two private parties, or more. So, no 4473 required in those situations. In my state, furthermore, firearms do not need to be "registered" with the state or local law enforcement. When an individual comes in and inquires about a firearm and then decides to purchase said firearm, yes, a 4473 is required and a NICS background check will be submitted (we do it electronically). Now, some FFL dealers in some states may utilize a CCW permit to bypass said NICS background check and complete out the 4473, transferring the firearm to the buyer. We personally do not do that and will always run a NICS background check. Furthermore.. where I work specifically, we do not partake in the Brady law, which means if an individual is delayed you may transfer the firearm if no response within 3 business days, furthering marking that on a 4473. We make sure we have a response and let it run for 30 business days until the NICS background check expires and then start a new 4473 if the customer is still interested. As the FFL dealer, we're not provided a reason to anyone being delayed, or denied - it's for confidentiality of the buyer. A prohibited 4473 is something you catch pre-submitting it to a NICS background check and it always comes based on the federal questions you're answering. The FFL dealer cannot question you about them, but merely prohibit an individual if they answer a question incorrectly. You could technically "destroy" that 4473 as it was not submitted to NICS and then start over, but as a FFL dealer, you'd be going against the very principle of filling out a 4473 at that point. This is where many FFL dealers get in trouble, especially ones that utilize paper 4473's. Gun shops in America do not require all the employees to obtain a personal FFL as they're operating underneath the business FFL. It's the business' responsibility to properly train those people that handle and sell firearms legally, but you have to understand, not everyone has the same compliance goals and understanding with ATF regulations and could be rebellious, getting the entire FFL in jeopardy. When it comes down to it, you have to hold a 4473 for 21 years on-site in a secure storage, and then you may long-term storage it off-site afterwards. The ATF does audits, especially to renew your FFL, of about 5,000 4473's to see if there's any errors on forms, transferring firearms to any prohibited persons et cetera. OK, take that with what you will!

In most states across the US, you can legally purchase a firearm through a private transaction -- albeit perhaps at more of a risk of the origins of said firearm. When you're a FFL dealer or even operating under the umbrella of a business FFL, the employee has legal obligations to be in compliance, regardless of personal feelings. I personally don't think there's an unofficial ATF registration as you'd be able to do a private records request on them, and that's just purely based on when we receive ATF firearm trace requests, they're asking for customer related information on a 4473 -- they only have the firearm disposition record from the vendor/business to your business' acquisition book, not the disposition record to the customer, which is what they're after. But, I'm also a firm supporter of people doing private transactions too. :-)

Craziest thing too, cartels have guns stolen or given to by some sort of government so like 90% of gun related deaths are sanctioned by the government.

    • An executive from Heckler & Koch was indicted in a court in Germany for supplying the cartels in Mexico with that company's guns. I'm pretty sure they're coming even from the U.S. by crafty people living here. We can't forget Barry Soetoro's and Susan Rice's operation Fast and Furious. I'm pretty sure the criminal Resident at the White House participated in that lucrative operation. These powerful wicked people care nothing about innocent people killed by their actions and inactions. The mass shootings occurring in places like churches and schools is most likely another one of their projects.

  • I applied for an FFL over a decade ago. They ended up denying my license claiming that I did not have a business premises. They did not give me a hearing as stated in the 1968 gun control act nor did they approve or deny the license within the time limit required by law. The ATF is not a legal or legitimate organization. They are just trying to drive up firearm prices until only they can afford them. Best to develop weapons that they don't know about or understand.

  • Having a big list of everyone who owns guns, their names, addresses and exactly which guns they have is the first step. If you ever wonder what happens next, go look at Australia, New Zealand, France and Canada. Here in Australia, you can get a license for a bolt .22 or I believe 12 guage. That's it. No pistols, no semi-automatics. We have a registry and licensing, it's not particularly hard to get a license without a criminal record but it's $300+ a year and allows them to search your home without a warrant or advance notice. If your gun is not *exactly* where they expect it to be, you're screwed. The second amendment is not important because it gives people the right to own firearms, it's important because the government can't do anything about it; the fact that such a huge portion of the population is armed and you don't even know who is what's important. A scared government serves its people. A scared populous serves its masters.

    • Please do not spread missinformation. As an aussie law abiding firearms owner we can most certainly own more than a .22 rimfire or 12g shotgun. However, I do beleive our gun control laws and also our self defence laws are restrictive to say the least. In saying that, missinformation is not the answer. Unity and public awareness is.

    • ​@@Mr-Keating I uh, I'd avoid the word "misinformation" as only authoritarians and anti-free speech people tend to use it. From what I've seen of the laws, and what I've heard from people I know who own guns, it's prohibitively difficult to get anything else. Automatics and semiautomatics, and for the most part pistols are banned outright for private possession. The calibre limit is 9.65 mm, but I don't know of anyone who owns something other than the usual .22 or 12 guage. Also yes, gotta love our "self defense". Lovely laws we have that punish victims!

  • A buddy of mine who is retired ATF and is now a FFL said the most common problem he saw was having the wrong date at the start of a new year, (writing down 2021 at the start of 2022 as example). Easley corrected, but I guess now could lead to the lose of license. I've been working through upping my C&R to a 7/2 SOT like you, but this gives me pause.

    • That's just it. The ATF isn't anti-gun. If all guns were blanket banned and confiscated, the ATF pretty much ceases to exist. It is against the ATF's interests to ban guns or even enact more fun control.

  • This is happening to the gun store I’m working at. What we were told was a very good audit ended with us getting our license revoked. We tried to settle, but the person in the ATF over this stated as per the Biden administration, they are not taking settlements. We sent a blank check with an offer for them to audit us quarterly for 2 years…. They literally just want to close people down. This was over paperwork. A couple of multiple handgun reports were missed, which in the past as long as you submitted them, they didn’t care. Edit: our gun store is the exact target of this. Small family run store. Doesn’t make a million dollars or anything, but enough to make the family comfortable, and not much else.

  • Pennsylvania just had a huge statewide "audit" that resulted in the permanent closure of a lot of shops. This was back in January, I remember the shop I usually went to was closed for like 4 weeks while the audit was conducted. Luckily they had no issues, but that's really shitty that the government can just harass FFLs like that

  • I work on a small gun store in MS and we have noticed over the past 5 months back ground checks are taking forever to come back. Possibly even 30 minutes. Then when they do come back there are x5 more delays and denies with no explanation. This has been causing huge hits in our profits and often causing us sales. The ATF and FBI are using anything they can to damage small gun stores across America.

  • As someone who works at one of these “local FFL’s,” I hate to say that I have already seen this taking effect against others. We go through several checks per 4473 to make sure all is well before the firearm is even taken home. We’ve had two of our “competitors” within 25 miles of us shut down for this reason. When Brandon says “clerical error” it can be anything as small as misspelling a street name, county, city, or even having a checkmark from one box start to fill in another. It is truly horrendous as to what Biden has forced upon us to ensure that we stay in business

  • As an 18 year old American, I have to say that the actual cause of the shooting was the fact that *the school (just like every single school) is a gun free zone,* where they are completely unarmed and they have to rely on calling 911 and wait for police to arrive, therefore they're more vulnerable and are not able to stop the shooter and they would most likely not make it out alive. If the shooter was targeting a gun store or a police station, the shooter will be taken down very quickly since they are always armed at police stations and gun stores. The truth is, *the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is to have a good guy with a gun,* not by taking guns away from the people. Not only the gun control would be infringing on *the second amendment,* it would put everyone in danger since *the bad guy is clearly not going to give their gun up,* in fact, they would just cause chaos with other things like knives, automobiles, gasoline lit by lighters/matches, brass knuckles, chainsaws, and heck, even skateboards will do worse than guns. If guns don't get banned, us good guys would go out and stop those people that are looking for chaos.

Sticking to the facts, refraining from cheap insults or memes, and not painting everyone in a political group with the same brush is how you change minds. As soon as you resort to insults and exaggerations, you shut down what may have been an open mind and only hurt your own cause. It's how my opinion has been changed in the past and how I've brought people around to my perspectives as well.   • The thing that scares me is ammo regulations. Anyone can build a fully functional and well made gun for $350 or so, but if there are tighter regulations in ammo then it wouldn’t matter.   • I started to get a on a writer's tangent over how these issues are on a societal level. Enough of one where if I kept going I could look into getting it published. And I will probably pursue that. To summarize it, you're right Brandon. The issue needs to be about why my generation feels some sort of violent need. And being that weird kid growing up in school, I can tell you it is not culture or its "violent and over-sexual media". It is our lack of responsible leadership. We are surrounded by people who aren't willing to take charge for our future. Most teachers are only teachers for student debt forgiveness and job security, not because they are qualified, or have a passion, or genuinely want to teach kids. Our peers are so caught up in their own petty drama that they shun and shame anyone who doesn't parrot the loudest voice. Our school boards care more about banning books and buying new tablets than refining a curriculum. Our parents who can't come home from work and talk to their kids, or the ones who refuse and shove us into a smartphone to spoon-feed us ideas instead of showing us how to develop our own conclusions. Our politicians, who only care about lining their pockets and shouting surface-level simple ideas to the masses because they made us too dumb to see it is all a farce. Because in all of my 22 years on this planet I've been pushed and pulled around trying to be lumped into some sort of group or label instead of being treated as an individual. And then all these broken institutions are somehow shocked that the youth, each being told all their lives that they are all unique, are instead treated like numbers on a spreadsheet only guided by short-term standardized tests. How could they be so disillusioned with the world? Its not like you raised them saying "You can do anything!" But ensure that every opportunity for their growth was stunted. Then they are left with questions they don't know the answer to, in a society that betrayed them at every turn. How do you expect someone, regardless of their sex and political affiliation, not to break down and do something violent? To them it is the only thing that matters. They fail a test, they aren't held back. They do well, they don't advance. We have a system that doesn't reward progress, nor gives negative consequences. Our elders can claim they care about us as many times as possible, but just saying it doesn't say anything. Actions speak louder than words. This goes both ways. Parents and teachers, or anyone who is close to kids. Please, give them a hug, talk to them, ask about their day, get to know them. Ask them questions about why they think things, help them get to the root of their questions. Treat them as an individual. I was blessed with a mother who encouraged my curiosity, and a father that shown me he can give up a vice if it meant being closer to me. Even though I'm a newly graduated English Major, I used my time learning, reflecting, and thinking on these topics, then writing about them in a way that most people can understand in some hope that someone will read what I publish (or comment) and be able to push these ideas for people to talk about. If we as a society truly valued our kids, then our society wouldn't be as bad as it is now.

  • As a 23 y/o veteran, I have guns, from my WW2 vet Mosin-Nagant to the "infamous and super scary AR-15 and AK". I also have medically diagnosed depression. I have "radical" political opinions. Yet I have never killed or wanted to do harm to an innocent. It's not about the guns. It's not about the violent video games (reason #527 I hate the GOP). It's not even about our histories, cultures, races, religions, or genders that comprise America. It is the failure of the parents to teach our children right from wrong. However, it's only a part of the problem. It's also a failure of the democratic and societal institutions to those they were created to serve, the people. It ultimately stems from the corrupt bureaucrats and their corporate donors. They have slowly but surely made just living and existing a burden we're all struggling to bear. From the endless struggle to pay the bills in our deadend service-driven economy to the near non-existence of mental health awareness and treatment to the bureaucrats who do nothing except expand their own power and lie to us to get reelected. America has become a nation where nothing gets done. Nothing CAN get done. We've become a nation where violence has become the only way to send a message, intentional or not. As an individual in "Gen Z", we need to seize our future by dismantling the corruption that exists in our government. And no, I don't mean in violence. I mean getting involved in helping struggling families and communities, getting educated in politics, running for office, voting for 3rd party candidates. Both the Democrats and GOP, as political parties, do nothing for the good of America as a whole. They've created a system that doesn't bring change for good, but to benefit itself and gridlock the opposition. We NEED to dismantle this corrupt oligarchy called the 2-Party system and their gerrymandering. Guns are not the issue. The gun control debate is but a distraction for politicians to solidify their own power. Because in the US Declaration of Independence, "they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" I don't know about you, but the systematic denial and encroachment on our firearm ownership violates all 3

  • One of the things that happens is that if they are successful ONCE, that set a precedent. So if the next guy trys to fight, they have a precedent. A company I worked for ran into this in reference to an emissions issue. The first 500 or so defendants capitulated, so they waltzed in to court expecting an easy win. Fortunately for me I was working for a gigantic multi national company who showed up with an army of high dollar attorneys. Moral of the story is that you have to fight the bastards EVERY SINGLE TIME. We need to stick together on this.

I was even considering getting a FFL liscense to follow my great grandpa as a gunsmith. Now this is pushing me away from getting into one of my many dream jobs

  • I'm from New Zealand, where we had an atrocity that resulted in 50+ innocent lives being lost by someone who had legally purchased military styled firearms. Knee jerk reaction they banned all military style firearms (including pistols) and put heavy restrictions on sales of firearms including semi autos. End result, our competitive shooters who use those firearms, now have to go overseas to train..after surrendering their insanely expensive competitive only firearms for destruction. Another side effect, I can no longer sell my Ruger .22 semi auto rifle or 5 shot semi shot gun (which I had for pest control when I was farming) due to new laws of online sales....but I can sell it in the pub just fine (as long as they have a valid firearms licence). Reason I'm mentioning this is 2 fold. One, gun violence in gang related incidents has sky rocketed since the law was rushed through, so what did it achieve? And 2, guess who just spoke to your Harvard graduating class in the last few days regarding this same law? The same person who pushed the law through with a 5 pound sledge hammer, the prime minister of New Zealand herself who is meeting with Biden this week. Sorry for the long comment, but people need to know that these laws will always hurt the innocent parties more than the ones willing to harm. Governments want to help? Work WITH the gun owners/sellers/groups, and not see them as scum. It does not work, and only harbours I'll will between all parties.

Driveby shootings are common now, and cops are being shot at more often. Also gangs have become more involved in the gun trade We haven't had a mass shooting since the mosques, but that's because Mass shootings are very rare in New Zealand, on average we have one every 20+yrs, and theres only ever been two shootings with over 10 people killed

The bans achieved nothing at all, and was purely a politicians power-wank-fantasy to say they did something that America couldnt... the kicker is our High court determined that the bans were illegal, because they skipped on aspects of political due process... thats the scariest part for me. Our country just let them do exactly what they want with no recourse, all because the media (funded by govt) told them it was the right thing.

    • @@mattheweagles5123 The shooting in Christchurch that Malcolm was referring to was the only mass shooting in NZ in probably a decade or more... we have a completely different cultural attitude towards guns than the US.. our firearm homocide figures were at about 1.5 per annum. Pre-ban we could own a wider variety of firearms than the US could, we can also own full auto firearms with the right license.. and still can, post-ban.

  • From an outsider perspective people seem to deep in the gun tunnel vision, US has a population of 330 million and about 8-11k firearm homicides yearly, which doesn't seem statistically all that much. Most of them seem to be handguns, yet all the attention is on rifles. I understand the optics behind why politicians choose to blame AR-15's, but anyone actually interested in preventing gun deaths with gun control should focus on pistols. However if you're going to oppose government, rifles are the most important small arms the population has. I don't really blame Americans for not trusting their government after reading up on events like Waco or Ruby Ridge.

  • As an employee at a small gun store/range, I must say, it’s an incredibly stressful time right now. There is zero room for error. With the amount of paperwork that goes with normal Transfers, not to mention nfa items, it feels like we are walking on a razor’s edge. As others have mentioned, you could think you’re in 100% compliance, then they audit and find a 3310.4 that was sent a day after a sale and boom, revocation. It’s craziness, and we definitely need more attention to this with some pushback from Congress as well.

  • The AFT has been baiting FFLs with procedural tricks, like having one agent fill out the form and the other exchange form of payment or the same agent that filled the form use a form of payment with the other agent's name on it, and also having one fill out the form and pay for it, then have the other reach out to accept the firearm as the FFL is attempting to hand it to the person who legally purchased it. Another trick they use is asking a question about the form, and leading the FFL into suggesting they mark it a certain way, ie, "Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance? Warning: The use or possession of marijuana remains unlawful under Federal law regardless of whether it has been legalized or decriminalized for medicinal or recreational purposes in the state where you reside." where the customer asks something like, "how long ago do they consider?" and the FFL says something like, "Have you used any drugs recently?" , followed by them saying, "Not recently" and the FFL saying, "Well just check no, then."...bam, FFL violation. Done. Always have them answer, "truthfully to the way they interpret the question" and reinforce that you did not write the question, you are just there to process the forms.

The majority of gun owners what to be left alone because well over 90% of gun owners are law abiding citizens. I have friends on both sides of the fence and some in the middle and they all agree this current administration is terrible for the people. And when hearing about these actions makes me even hesitant to get my C&R FFL for my collection.

    • Well not really he’s leaving out just how lax enforcement was before. There were Gun Stores that were audited multiple times found with violations like say selling guns to convicted felons, failing to do background checks at all or having 600 guns missing from its inventory and the ATF decided hey let’s give them a warning. Even after the inspector recommended taking the license. So are they over correcting in the wrong direction, probably but this has been going on since before 2014. It’s a shift from giving chance after chance after chance to zero tolerance. There has to be a median between the two extremes.

  • I'm 21 and recently separated from the military, and this stuff makes me afraid for the safety of myself and my family. I'm afraid that I won't be able to adequately defend those I love and care about. The economy is already slowly going to shit people are going to be more desperate than ever, I won't be surprised if break ins are on the rise. And it'll just be more fuel for the big wigs to start "cracking down". Let's hope there's a light at the end of this tunnel, and that light is the muzzle flash of the AK-50.

    • @@jameshartwell4637 I was only in for just under 2 years, I got separated for severe insomnia, I got hospitalized a number of times and couldn't recover fast enough so they couldn't retain me.

    • @@michaelfreeze2949 Separation just means you're military contract is over or terminated. That can range anywhere from honorable to dishonorable discharge, when a decorated Captain that served for 30 years with a flawless record retires it's still considered "separation". I got a general discharge under honorable conditions, you can only relieve honorable if you serve a certain amount of your given contract. I was separated due to severe insomnia, that has nothing to do with any sort of mental disorder nor does it make me ineligible to own a firearm. I never said the military disallowed me from owning a firearm. That had nothing to do with my statement or the topic at hand.

  • I've spent the last 4 months getting my home based FFL started. 4 months, hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars later.... still waiting on the state to legally sell a gun. FBI dragging their feet for NICS access, state licenses getting "lost" in the mail. its annoying.
