Have you considered offering these language courses, and/or would you recommend the best place to learn these languages? I would so love to visit India and/or Pakistan in the future and speak with natives.

    • I've known of his channel for a while and he is excellent at learning languages, however, he is at a massive advantage living in NYC where MANY of the residents are 1st-2nd-3rd generation immigrants who still speak their native language regularly at home and in friend groups. Id personally love to learn some French, but I live in a rural area where nobody speaks anything but English unless you go to the local Chinese restaurant or see the migrant farm workers who are living here on visa. Being able to regularly immerse yourself in the language with others allows you to practice genuinely instead of just repeating it on a language course.

    • Also: intelligence in an specific field don't mean you're Einstein all across the board xD

      @LucasVenda@LucasVenda Жыл бұрын
    • @@LucasVenda Yes and no. The trait is called general intelligence for a reason - it plays a part in being good at just about every kind of mental task (and some less purely mental ones like pitch discrimination and reaction time, though the latter correlation is small). The thing is, intelligence is a lot like having a computer built from high end parts. Fast processor, lots of RAM etc, but still the same hardware architecture as anyone else, so subject to all the bugs and shoddy construction human brains are built with. Where the Einstein stuff comes from is that you can't do anything with raw hardware - you need a program. Photoshop to edit images, code editors for programming, etc. And you can't just install things into a human brain, every human has to build their own software, which takes a lot of work. Smarter people can do the construction work faster, sometimes a lot faster, and can run more complicated programs, but at some point in building any skill the quick wins just dry up and all you're left with is work and practice. And what we invest that work and practice into depends a lot on our circumstances and our personality, what we'e naturally interested in. Einstein and Shakespeare were both smart, but one was obsessed with math and physics, the other in writing stories and acting, so that's what they ended up being truly amazing at. Einstein wasn't intelligent at physics, he was *skilled* in it. His intelligence was what let him learn it at all, most people just can't even if they use much more time than he did.

  • As a North Indian (Punjabi), living in America, I got big respect for you Xiaoma. You have shown the whole world how diverse of a country India really is. We are much more than just Hindi or Gujarati speakers, actually over 400 languages are spoken in India's 29 states. We are much more than just the Doctors and 7-11 owners and cab drivers America thinks we are. With your language knowledge now, you are good to travel anywhere throughout the country. I speak Hindi, some Punjabi and Spanish, in addition to English, and you have even shown me more about South India and Gujarat and Bengali than I had ever seen. And I hope everybody sees how just making a small effort to learn a few words in someone else's language gets them to open their heart to you and connect on a level that wouldn't have been possible otherwise. Keep showcasing the languages of the world ! There is no substitute for face to face communication in this world. And I hope you remember the languages still even after you're done making the videos for them!!

Becoming fluent is very hard but learning stuff like "what do you do, where are you from, blah blah" is pretty simple. Most of the time that's like the first thing you learn in any language. I study Japanese at college and the first things I ever learned were how to talk about myself and how to hold rudimentary conversation.

I don't know all languages in the world, but I do know Japanese and English sentence structures are different, and I'd probably expect some middle Eastern and African languages have different sentence structures. This video helped me converse with people more in Telugu because I’m not very fluent at all, but your confidence to be able to talk at a very beginner level to others really surprises me. I would be too embarrassed to even try. So I just want to congratulate you on attempting to learn this language, and to thank you on making me at least a bit more confident and willing to talk to people In Telugu

  • I generally follow Xiaoma for his Chinese videos as someone who loves to surprise others when I speak their language too (I can speak about 5 languages, 3 fluently) but I didn't expect to see my native language here. In the interest of improving your pronunciation - a general rule of thumb for Telugu is that we have very few hard T and D sounds, most of them are th and dh respectively. So Telugu is actually pronounced Thelugu (don't stress the h too much though). And Telugu is generally a relaxed language without many vocal tricks, so you should be able to learn it quickly. Good going and I look forward to you busting this language out whenever you need another hyderabadi biryani.
