  • The closest thing we’ll ever have to a Time Machine is music. This song brings me back to a time when I had not a worry in the world. And everything was so innocent.

  • In my opinion, end of 90's and the transitional of early 2000's are everything. Bands are coming from all direction... It was a blessed that you could hear that the radio and billboard chart would be bombared with fantastic songs every single weekend... pop, rock, alt rocks, metal, punk, ballads, boy group, girl group... you name it. It was gold time to grow up. Less toxic, too

      @fariin2174@fariin2174 Жыл бұрын
    • @@fariin2174 yup... with the song material and personal vocal, back then - these things alone either make you swim or sink. Autotune are nice 'ummph' featurettes; but it tend to be so icky when you couldn't 'feel' the authenticity of the real voice at times. In addition, the small little details on marketing are essentially gimmick... press loves that. Just act crazy, and you'll be on top! Thus, the mediocre one goes everywhere within the chart and the good singer-songwriter are left unnoticed

Three months ago we are leaving a movie with my now 15 year old son and grab a bite to eat next door where in they have a small karaoke rig. On a whim I step up and sing it again... before its over, teenage girls are dancing by their booths, my wife is beaming sunshine from her eyes, and my too embarrassed to show his face son is smiling ear to ear because he had nooooo idea his Dad could sing.

  • Tal explained the backstory to this song long ago. When in high school trying to figure out where you stand in the status quo can really mess with your head. You really think that people actually give a crap about the choices you make. So you see a girl in school you really like but are too afraid to approach her because you may think that she is “too good” for your status. You want to ask her out to the school dance. Instead you keep your distance instead of taking a chance at rejection. Then you come to find out that she was sad because NO ONE asked her to the dance. Teach your kids about these things so they aren’t afraid of swinging the bat. Hit or miss at least they know instead of contemplating what if.

    • Yep. When I was 16 there was this dream girl in school that I could never get the courage to talk to... Many many many years later bumped into her at a pub, we were both older and settled down, but she said tocme that she always wished I would have made a move back then :-(

    • my mom taught me the same nonsense about hot girls not getting asked out. So I flirted and asked out as many as I could. Turns out...the only hot girls who EVER sat home alone? their personality SUCKED. oh, some were nice and shy, but that still doesn't make them much fun, being quiet and repressed on a date and insecure about everything they do. But most of the lonely girls were the real bitches or truly hot messes--once you looked past the makeup and short dresses and such to see the real person. I don't know about anyone else's school, but I never saw the beautiful girls go alone to any dance. That's because there's always an attractive boy, who grew up with girls chasing him. He doesn't ask out beautiful women out of confidence--he does it because he doesn't know what rejection is. He's always had a neighborhood girl, or a sister's friend, or a girl at summer camp, trying to get some "alone time" with him, always coming to his aid when he's sad hoping it will work for them. But I did get into the friend zone alot by asking. Beautiful women get hit on constantly, and some can respect a guy who has the guts to ask them out, isn't old enough to be their dad, is RESPECTFUL once getting shot down, isn't treating them like a "Score" but a real human being, and so on.

It was released as a single to North American radio on February 13, 1999, from his self-titled debut album. The song peaked at number three in Canada, topped the US Billboard Adult Top 40 chart, and reached number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also became a top-10 hit in Australia and New Zealand and peaked at number 30 in the United Kingdom.

  • Dear lord.... I was 10 years old when this song was released. I remember SPECIFICALLY where I was when I first heard it. In the car, with my dad driving, and they said on the radio "Now for the single from rising artist Tal Bachman... "She's So High". My dad, knowing that i was a big BTO fan at the time, looked over at me and said "This is Randy Bachman's son". Then he adjusted the volume knob and turned it up. What followed for the next 4 minutes was complete silence as we listened to one of the greatest songs I've ever heard. To hear it now, 17 years later.... and to remember all the little parts about the song that I loved, particularly the guitar sounds he makes at 1:20-1:25, and then again at 1:30-1:35.... brings back instant nostalgia and I have tears in my eyes. I feel as if music has really lost this magic nowadays. You can't even turn on the radio without being subjected to all kinds of controversial and questionable bullshit. Just my opinion of course

    • Also a ‘58 product! Discovered this song about 10 years ago and it restored my faith in great music still being made. My generation is stuck on insisting that good music stopped in 1979 as is every generation about their music. I love my Tull, ELP, Fogelberg, Yes and many others but She’s So High has the same feeling as Frampton’s Show Me The Way. Great music can happen at any time.

  • When I was in high school, there was this girl I’d known since 1st grade that this song reminded me of. She was so beautiful, kind, funny, and easy to talk to. By senior year, she was head cheerleader, homecoming queen, etc. We were study partners several times throughout high school, sometimes ate lunch together. I was so convinced she was out of my league. We all graduated and moved on. 3 years after graduation, I was home visiting my parents for Christmas. One night, I ran into this girl’s best friend from HS. We talked a bit and I finally said “Hey, how’s Kate doing?” Kate’s friend said “She’s good…she finally got over you! You know, you were a real jerk to her!” I was dumbfounded. I asked her what she meant by that. She told me “Always teasing and leading her on. Asking her to be your lab partner, having lunch with her, telling her jokes, complimenting her all the time….i kept having to hear her say ‘Maybe Greg will ask me to the winter formal’ or ‘I think Greg is finally gonna ask me out!’ And you never did! She cried so hard when she found out you already had a date to prom. She couldn’t understand why you wouldn’t ask her out!” All those years, I could’ve gone out with this amazing girl, but I was too nervous to take the first step. I’m 41 now. She’s happily married, has 2 sons and a daughter. I’m glad she found someone because she deserves someone as amazing as she is.
