With Summer right around the corner its time to start getting out the dry flies. These are some of my favorite dry flies out there! They are all simple to tie and cover a variety of patterns. If you tie these up in a variety of colors and sizes, you’ll have your bases covered!

  • This was a great beginners kit for a great price. kzhead.infoUgkxKRURvLsu9Vvyw7gIuvt8FsApoQNCdz-1 Its given us a huge variety to test out and see what works well and what we like to use. Majority of the flies have stayed together well, but some of the rainbow warriors did unravel after catching a few blue gill. All in all, this was a great kit and are so happy with the purchase and value for money.

    • Dry flies float on top or near the top of the water column in the case of emergers. So these represent the flies we see flying around and not the nymphs in the water

  • I couldn't cast a dry fly to save my life, I can barely cast with a 5ft leader, idk how guys use 12'

    @joshuawittcop9116@joshuawittcop9116 Жыл бұрын
    • You should be able to cast any foot leader with ease. I'd take some time and watch a couple videos to adjust your casting,I'm sure you will improve(i know i did). Always make sure you have your leader out and a minimum of 4 to 5 feet of fly line itself so it can pick up momentum a little easier. Let it fly/cast back until you feel a little tension on your rod pull back(depending on action of rod tip or fulcum point i belive is the term, this happens with back and forward casting)then you'll want to start casting forward and end with a little soft power push at the end of your cast(fulcrum point)so the line gets some tension on the rod tip to help propel the line forward

    • To present fly. Press thumb into the rod, directly opposite the eyes, pull the rod with your pinky at the reel, the eyes side has the strongest whip strength, use your thumb to point with/aim with, wrist is the fulcrum, and the leverage is between thumb tip and pinky bend (as stated above). Your rod and thumb and forearm should end horizontal at shoulder level. During that motion, pull the line slack a little more (a foot of slack is usually plenty), and move your entire mass forward over spaced feet (like punching, or throwing, more power), and the entire rod should flex over itself, the spring action of the rod will roll the line out. Just before I let that loop completely roll out, I let go of the slack so it pulls everything farther. 6-14 ' single width 15 # fluorocarbon (heat straightened so it rolls flat, i like p-line 15# or 20# fluorocarbon for this) does the same action as the fly rod and line, and 3-5 feet of 4-6# fluorocarbon (also heat straightened, be careful with the small stuff. suffix ice fishing fluorocarbon is my favorite tip leader) to have invisible line. Connected with barrel hitches on opposing line, not loops. Can usually get all that, and all of the floating line out, and into backing, and hit a bait bucket. Don't be afraid of the rod cracking noises, it's just the enamel over the eye wrapping. If it breaks, it's time to upgrade the weaknesses.

  • There’s a reason why we’ll established tyers not only have more a following but also tie a better fly. These are gimmick flies with poor directions. Need to explain proportions and Technique. We don’t need to enter dates to win a single fly or “a nice buggy look”. We need to stop tying 3/4 of the way down the bend of the hook lol.
