It's disappointing that the English cards don't have the same borders as the Japanese. The shiny borders create a unique card which could justify the price. It doesn't seem as high quality without it

I honestly want to like the English versions more because it's what I grew up on but the Japanese cards are just so clean. I love the holo border and the vibrantness of the Japanese cards

i like how the Japanese version is more visibly pleasing and the Pokémon are magnified a little more with that holo border is just amazing.
What a box, 400 dollars is crazy expensive, but every single card in the deck is amazing. The holo pattern is so unique and beautiful.

I love both! The yellow borders are so nice! But those holo borders on the Japanese cards hit different. And the difference in how vibrant the English and Japanese cards is insane!

Japanese colours are much more vibrant but having the yellow borders gives it that nostalgia and I definitely prefer that. Voltorb was an amazing card too!
I personally love the original borders! Also liked that they didn't put the base starters on the front- less likely to have damage. The contrast between the colors is just like the original base set unlimited english vs japanese base set. Love it.
Wish I had the opportunity to open this myself and see how sick these cards look in person. They look so good!

I prefer the regular yellow borders. I remember as a kid wanting to get certain commons/uncommons in holo like Charmander (I didn't understand only rares got holo 😅) so this just slaps. Fulfills that desire from 20+ years ago!
I really like both English and Japanese, I don't mind that English doesn't have the holo borders because it actually makes it look more old school for me

That was exactly their intention. Each card has the border it had at original printing. Hence the switch card having a different border

I think the sparkly borders on the Japanese version give them a little extra touch, but the English cards still look amazing. Thanks for opening this and sharing with us, it's super cool!

Gotta say, Rev when I first seen these I was disappointed the English cards weren’t getting the shiny borders. But after seeing them on camera I prefer the English prints for the more classic look as you mentioned which means a lot to me as I started collecting at 10 with Base set and prefer the traditional look that’s just a little more spicy.
Japanese version looks so much more pleasing, but the artwork is super cool in all these cards

This is just insane, while I don't think I will ever get this box, but it is so nice just seeing you open it up and go through it.
I feel ya man if I was gonna shell out 4 to 500 it would be on the og versions not jus another reprint they are kool n beautiful cards but I prefer the old 1s I had as a kid. This might be kool 4 collectors with a lot of cash 2 throw around unfortunately that ain't me gotta save up 4 stuff.
I was not going to buy this set but I think I will now! Just looking at the upgraded holos they did is outstanding, these are how the newer cards should look too, I get they want to go in a different direction with Scarlet and Violet but I personally think they should do a full new set with the classic card designs it be so nostalgic ❤

For the price you're paying, I'm glad it does feel like you've got a premium product. Really cool seeing all those holos. I think I prefer the yellow borders just a little more than the sparkly ones.
Very cool to see these beautiful artworks! But you can see the Japanese big 3 the Pokémon are a bit more “zoomed in” than the English side by side. Preference for me are those sparkly Japanese borders, the feel is a bit more classy and upscale than the English version.
Voltorb and electrode are the first two cards I bought from this box, I always thought that electrode should have been holo when I was a kid and now finally seeing it holo is impressive!
If you sent some cards off to get graded would having that slight bend effect the grading?
Sometimes it’s nice to miss a week of videos to have a bunch of great content to watch all at once.

I have always like the Japanese cards with the Silver boarders. I am glad to see English move in that direction. Holo on the edges would make more sense for the price, but all the cars look sick.

Just preordered for myself. Now that I’m older I’ve been waiting for a box like this to have all the base set originals in one. $400 is a small price to pay to relive my childhood. It’ll be a great Christmas present to open for myself. Excited!

Both sets have the positives. The Japanese set with the shiny borders but thd english set looks more old school, really going for the classic look ❤ . I'm not sure I'd part with 400 quid for the set.
I would prefer the japanese edition... some of the yellow borders fit pretty good aswell but i think the sparkle borders is giving the whole thing some extra flair

Just opened my box, I loved it but I couldn't help feeling slightly disappointed with the lack of "Pokemon" cards especially for £399.

The Japanese are obviously ideal. I’ve already picked up a few singles from the Japanese for my binder collection, they’re so so stunning. Perhaps the best Onix card ever!!
I definitely like the color contrast on the Japanese better but I like the border on the us cause it give’s more of an og feeling

I wish the cards had the same borders as jp…for the price point you would only expect the best
English man. the yellow brings back that nostalgia for those cards like Squirtle, and Wartortle. Cards we had as kids but NOW they are holographic, it makes them feel a little more special. The Japanese cards are quite attractive there is no doubt there, it brings out the "Ooooooh Shiny!" in me yet i still love to see that solid yellow border. When i was a kid and the EX cards started coming out, I collected a few but I stopped buying them because I didn't like the lines at the bottom of the card that you could swipe into the E reader thing.. stupid me though, because if i wouldn't have stopped i'm sure i would have a decent collection of classic cards. I'm half tempted to buy this just to hang on to for 20 years

The cards look a little more vibrant for the Japanese cards because of the holo foil behind the art, since the Japanese cards have holo borders
Every card being a holo is so cool to me. I think the Japanese sparkling boarders are better in my opinion because this is a special set/purchase so they do it for the zing and attractive matter. The classic yellow is nostalgically awesome. However, there is something to a special set and the zing it gives for the japanese version.
If you look at the Japanese Blastoise, he's more zoomed in then the American version
From the standpoint of nostalgia as an American consumer, I don’t mind the yellow borders because it’s closer to the way they were originally printed in english

Alright the yellow boarders are like Pokémon’s classic look for their cards, also the cards that do have a sparkle edge are that much More special so I like it just how they are 💛

I do wish the English cards had the shinny borders like the Japanese but the set is still cool. Too bad you can't use some of the trainers in tournaments like the Switch and Ultra Balls.
I think the gold and silver borders are better. Especially when they're made to match the hollow.
