  • Brigette has been my best friend for 30 years and I can tell you all that she is as lovely, creative and adorable IRL as this video portrays. I seriously am so thrilled by how accurate this is. Her apartment feels like an immersion into safety, a painting, and chic comfort. I am so proud of her, and I am so happy to see such kind and wonderful comments. Love you so much my Brig. I am blown away by you.

    • If she's willing to pay to upgrade her landlords property for them... It really speaks to how awful the rental market truly is. Even with the high rental costs it's still impossible to find somewhere bearable to live without also having to pay to renovate the place you're renting 😏

  • I have rented my entire life by choice. I'm in my mid 70's and feel as Brigette does. I didn't want the responsibility of owning so doing upgrades and renovations on my apartment was a no brainer. Everyone always comments on how beautiful my space is in one breath and then feels it's foolish to spend my money on the landlord's property in the next. I've ignored them all and loved pretty much all the spaces I've lived in. Do what makes you happy and to heck with the nay-sayers. Your home is absolutely gorgeous Brigette.

    • I love her philosophy of not thinking of her apartment as a temporary dwelling. She has made it a home for however long she lives there. My first thought was that she earned her living as an interior decorator. I like the living room in the room that gets the most natural light. Buying the Ikea wardrobes and swapping out the knobs was pure genius! I watch a ton of NYC apartment tours and I always wonder how people can survive with such minimal closet space. I have a lot of clothes including coats, boots and shoes. It’s like a gym workout to pull out storage bins from beneath the bed, or clear everything off the cocktail table or ottoman to get linen to change by towels and sheets. I’m curious about something. Pillows. It seems to me that while they look nice and add texture and color, a lot of pillows seem impractical when you have guests or make up your bed.

  • Yes, everyone deserves to love the space they're in, but something to be mindful of is that when people say, "Why decorate a rental?" it's not because they don't _want_ to have a beautiful temporary space. They just can't afford to. An insane amount of money went into the decor of this lovely apartment, and that's not something most working class folks can dish out every time they move into a new rental.

    @munchkin0518@munchkin05182 ай бұрын

    • Also in my experience many landlords won't let you even put a picture up on the wall, let alone painting or renovating. This woman's very lucky she was able to do what she did, and to afford to do it. The end result looks gorgeous though.

    • You're probably talking U.S. conditions here. There are other countries where renting is even more common and where it is quite normal to adapt things to your liking and spend a few bob on it over time when you think you'll be there for a longer period.

      @roadwayrona@roadwayrona2 ай бұрын
    • But what shes saying is if you can afford it and your landlord lets you do some changes, do it. She’s not talking about the money, she’s talking about what it means to spend time and effort in a place you’re gonna leave, eventually

I saw this apartment in a video done previously, and almost skipped this, but glad I didn't, seeing what she did with the bathroom alone was worth it. • I love you! I am your kindred spirit. We rent and I have poured a ton of money and effort into my rental. Drives my husband crazy and I keep reminding him if I have to live in a rental, I’m going to make it my home as if I owned it. I have painted all the kitchen cabinets with the approval of my landlord. I replaced all the knobs I replaced the Spicket at the sink and the sink itself, we landscaped outside we bought rosebushes and shrubs and mulch, and she paid for some of it and we paid for the rest. My husband works very hard to make the yard gorgeous by putting fertilizer and weed and feed on it. I have not knocked walls down, but I have done everything I can do to make it. My favorite place to be. All my friends think it’s gorgeous and can’t believe what I’ve done with it. My landlord loves having us there and states that we are the only couple that has improved the house, and made it gorgeous! Just because we rent doesn’t mean we have to live in a home that doesn’t feel like my home. I showed my landlord’s son the home and he stated I needed to be an interior decorator and he knew that this house had potential but that renters usually don’t do anything to improve the place they rent. So I got your back girl and I will watch any video you put out where you do things in a rental to make it beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing

You’re going to be moving with that tree quite a bit. Actually the rest of your life. Mine have names, Doris and Roger and they’re stunning

  • While it's not my taste, I can appreciate what she's done, and there is no denying that she has great decorating style. I understand her reasoning for wanting to make a space her own and I respect it, but I would have trouble spending the kind of money she has to upgrade a space that I don't own.

Also, when I was a young woman just starting out, I had a studio in Brooklyn and it was a magical time! Congratulations, young lady!

  • I totally agree with your philosophy that your home is where you live, and has no necessary connection with property ownership. That's so important, I think. I know a couple who have lived in the same unit for 30 years, and the hubby actually grew up in it, but they won't do anything to make it truly their home because they're "just renting"! And they have no intention of moving, because the rent is low, so will probably live there their entire lives. But "just renting." Home is where you are, for however long.

I appreciate her vignettes, as I always look at spaces as they are seen from different angles and always in small vignettes throughout. When I was a renter I'd go all out too, and loved making them my spaces. What a wonderful personal tour!

  • Oh my goodness. Oh my goodness. Oh my, my. I saw this young lady on Instagram and it was literally life changing. I know, cheesy and weird talk but honestly, her words changed the way I thought which was very much „I‘ll save it for later“ mentality. Her style and natural gift for decorating and furnishing is unbelievable. I hope she‘s happy and will get swooped up by some cute television channel who will treat her right.

    • Who cares? You're living in the house, might as well make it nice. Some people will live in the same place for 30 years, are they not supposed to do anything at all in that time because it's rented?

      @giuf175@giuf1752 ай бұрын
    • @@giuf175 Decorating it? Of course. But why would you spend money on renovating something you don't own when you leave the space? Or is the housing price that bad in US that people literally rent for that long and justifying the decision to renovate along the way?

    • @@bbfifi1991 Buying in New York often isn't an option. It's definitely worth spending money to create a nice home because you live there. For this girl, it's also her job.

  • This apartment is ASTOUNDING!!! It is so fresh, yet so traditional, so lovely, so life-affirming, so light and bright, so artistic, so gracious. I could almost envision Renoir sitting there on her couch. What a great artistic designer she is! I wonder what she does for a living, because she could easily have her own designing company. I would never think an apartment in Brooklyn could be so gorgeous and homey. I hope her landlord has given her a break in the rent for all the upgrades she did. One of my - no, my *favorite* apartment. Full stop! It should be showcased in Victoria magazine or Beautiful Home.
