Angry? No, he's Happy!

He looks angry, but he's actually happy.
It was over 30 degrees that day, so I gave him a shower.
After he cooled off, he was sleeping comfortably in the corner of the room.

  • I love how he looks down to make sure he can truly be bathed everywhere and so you can get his neck, only for him to wait a few seconds after you finish before giving you that look of "Hey, why'd you stop? Who told you to stop?" Such a vivid personality on this owl!

    • Yeah. There's a lot of trust here with the big guy and his owner. And the fact he looks like he's defensive about being sprayed but he's loving it too!

    • Believe in Jesus because Jesus is the only Savior and no one else. Open your heart to the Lord Jesus and you will have life! But read the Scripture, learn from it, here is the whole truth! And know that your sins have been forgiven on the cross and that every mistake has been blotted out and the Lord has done it for you! If you believe it you will follow it, if you don't believe it you will not follow it. Give yourself a chance and go to life. Christ Jesus is life. Do not harden your heart, do not be numb, but let yourself be saved by the Lord Jesus! Return to Jesus please...

    • well, at the beginning i thought it was angry, and thought even "what is the person spraying there?" - so i had to pause the video and look what the description says, then it made sense to me. without knowing that it was a hot day thad that's for "cooling them down", it seems as they were angry... but, to be fair - a wet owl looks a bit... confusing, especially the ears.

    • I know very little about Owls, but the few times I've seen them acting this way, they were trying to not be seen. I used to go biking at night, A LOT, in the middle of nowhere before bed, and if I ran across one (and noticed them) they would spread their wings, and always face me, blending into the ground. First time I noticed it I was startled, but I've noticed it many times since then. Just leave them alone.

    • @@fuzzywzhe That isn't meant to be camouflage, that's actually a threat display. It thought you were a predator and it was trying to drive you off by making itself look bigger

    • @@JetFalcon710 I admittedly don't know much about owls, but it was well camouflaged when I biked past. They blended in, and it turned as I went past, I only noticed them because of their movement. They didn't reflect a shadow. I don't pretend to guess their motivation, I'm CERTAINLY not going to mess with them, but I only noticed them because they didn't completely blend into the background. I'm doubtful this is a threat display but that's just human words anyhow and human thinking. It didn't want to be noticed, and if I noticed it and approached it, I'm certain I'd have been attacked. I'm certain it didn't want to be disturbed, and I had another 10 miles to go, and 750 feet to climb, I didn't want to bother it either. It was just interesting and surprising. I have to wonder how many I passed, I never noticed. I had nothing to give it, and I doubt it wanted to get pet.

    • @@JetFalcon710 Oh, wand BTW - the US overthrew Ukraine in 2014. The whole war in Ukraine is the fault of the US. The coup led to an immediate civil war between the east and west of Ukraine. The US supported their puppets, Russia supported their side (mostly Russian speakers), until they engaged in direct intervention. Be careful with your unqualified support. Know what you are supporting. Ukraine will be wiped out, it's just a question of numbers. This entire horrific war could have been averted if the US didn't overthrow Ukraine in 2014. • That owl isn't happy, it's just submissive, it's trying to intimidate the person but it isn't able to do anything. Owls aren't pets, they're wild animals, and for one owl to arrive to someone, other 10 die. This owl was probably taken from their nest when they were a newborn, and thanks to someone's avarice, they aren't in the place they should be, that being a forest or another natural environment.

    • That was a playful reaction. It only looks like aggression because it involves nipping. It's literally just excited and fluffing up because it's trying to get all the moisture it can on its actual skin. Imagine you're wearing a coat while trying to take a shower, you would take it off to actually clean your skin right? I literally work at a nature center with six raptors and three of them are owls and one of the owls is an eagle owl (same type of owl as this one I believe).

    • Yep. Owls are very underrated in terms of HOW good/precise the hunting skills, and their beauty is incredible, IMO. I went to a newly-opened technical high school, and a one of the built-ins next to a window was a glass-walled enclosure that housed a BIG owl. When I first saw the owl in person, that's when it hits you HOW striking and large the bird was. I know an owl isn't exactly recommended to be an ideal pet, but I've often thought how enriching it would be to interact with an owl on a daily basis.

    • Logically when an animal puffs up to make itself look bigger that tends to be a sign of aggression to chase off the other creature bothering.

      @Mate397@Mate397 Жыл бұрын
    • @@Mate397 yea, but at any moment you could look at the situation instead of assuming. it clearly tries to eat the water multiple times, so it isnt trying to get away or anything. it spins around trying to get other parts of its body wet as well, if it was being aggressive it wouldnt face AWAY from the perceived threat. basically, the only way you can think its angry or being defensive is if you see 3 seconds of it puffing up and then stop watching the video to go post a comment saying it got angry.

      @TheShizzlemop@TheShizzlemop Жыл бұрын
    • @@TheShizzlemop That most likely is what happens. There are videos of wild owls getting filmed, with how they puff up and snap their beak at the threat was close to what it looked like in the beginning, for those that don’t see the differences in threat stance or relaxed stance. At one point when he got closer, Garu did a warning snap and the owner responded back. “Hey hey” I think is what he said. Maybe Garu doesn’t like the water can being so close? To me it looked like he was puffing up so it’s easier to get all those feathers underneath to get wet. Especially at the end. He had a more relaxed puff to him, and like you said wasn’t watching him or his hand 24/7. There needs to be more videos of owls getting bath time. Lol

    • @@kips8156 Yea. Not all owls like showers. There's a clip of another owl on youtube known as Taiji-kun, and he doesn't like showering. But they way the two act towards getting sprayed makes this real clear unless if you don't watch more than a half second and instantly react with angry comments. Owls are definitely a species that are harder for humans to understand their expressions due to their inability to make facial expressions, so misunderstandings are expected, but still an unfortunate reality of youtube.

      @komo6103@komo6103 Жыл бұрын
    • @@kips8156 Yea, wild owls or any wild animal that act like that would be a likely sign of aggression. But for pets or tame/friendly animals, it could just be their way of being excited or playful. Similar to cats. Stray/wild cats would pounce to kill or hunt, while pet cats likely pounce at anything that catches their attention for fun while it being in their nature.

  • I rescued a Great Horned Owl once. It got trapped in our chicken pen, overnight. We took a broom and shooed it out, so we could let the chickens out. It sat under a tree all day. I kept an eye on it and called people all day. Nobody would help. Then one of the barn cats noticed the Owl. Then i saw 5 cats surrounded the Owl. I didn’t know what to do. I grabbed a big towel and ran to the tree. I was afraid, it’s a large bird. I threw the towel over the bird and took it in my kitchen. Ran to the barn and got our biggest dog crate. Made ‘Oliver’ the best comfy home on my kitchen table. After hours of calling people, including my own vet. I found a Raptor rescue. Delivered him to safety. Turned out ‘Oliver’ was an ‘Olive’. She sadly passed away the next day. When she swooped into the chicken pen she couldn’t get out. She probably bashed her brains into the fence all night. Trying to escape. Oh and for future reference, Owl’s are airplanes, not Helicopters.

  • Yeah if he didn't like it he WOULD NEVER do that with his head like that. So adorable and those happy hoots at the end made me laugh. Glad you take so very good care of him and give him the love to where he trusts you that much. Hope you both have a wonderful day and please be safe in this craziness (also to all who read this comment).
