LED DIMMERS - HOW THEY WORK - WHY THEY FLICKER - WHAT HAPPENS INSIDE A DIMMER - CAN I MIX LAMP TYPES
This video from LearnElectrics follows on from our recent video on dimmer switches for incandescent lamps. Many of the principles and methods of operation behind those older technology dimmers are similar for LED dimmers, but of course, there are some important differences.
Technology has had to move on with the introduction and development of new products, new methods and new materials. Both dimmer types have their place, and we hope that you benefit from this video on LED dimmers.
The principles here will work equally well with 50 Hz or 50 cycles per second as used in UK and European systems and will also be relevant for 60 Hz supplies as in North America and many other countries.

Led dimmers & led lamps generally give me more grief with customers than the old filament lamps. Even with matching brand of led dimmers and led lamps, they often flicker or just pack up. I've also had a customer replace 1 single dimmable lamp for a different make & the rest of his 9 led dimmable spots started to strobe badly at certain settings. Nowadays if a customer requires dimmable led's i try to talk them out of it.
I have the same exact issue even when I use the V-Pro programmable dimmers that are very expensive I end up with issues and the client thinks it’s my fault! I try to explain the complications but it only makes it worse! I too try to talk them out of using dimmers.

Sometimes you have to add a 1-6Uf capacitor to smooth out the flicker at lower dim levels. They should put these into circuits in the first place

LED dimmers are crap. LED internal dimming with PWM also sucks. We live in a cheap world.
