It is still the same weight as the Mach 1 was almost 4000 lbs as well so not much different other than being slightly bigger. Sam almost always gets the weight wrong. The size is big at 190 inches. • I drove a 2016 GT w/MT for about four years. When Ford came out with the second gen S550 in 2018, they reworked the Coyote V8, upping the compression ratios and adding direct injection on top of the port injection on the previous version. They also reworked the gear ratios on the manual transmission on the GT's. The end result was, even though the new engine produced about 20 more hp, the car's total performance did not improve much. There were many who believed it would have been much better off with the previous years gears.

At least with the 370Z that I had all of the power was above 2500 rpm. The new Z is a TT so it is likely to also lag at lower RPM , but once the engine spins up, then they are in the fat part of the power band. Still, Z's are supposed to be for driving, not dragging.

  • Seems to me that a twin turbo v- 6 should be making a lot more than 400 HP. I could be wrong, but seems like almost all v-6's now a days make over 300 HP naturally aspirated, being twin turboed, and only 400 HP doesn't seem right to me.

  • Great review, Sam. Thanks for the amazing content and for giving us something to look forward to on a daily basis! Wonderful cars and hard to drag race. As a former GT owner, I’d take the muscle car always. Doesn’t mean the Z is bad at all. It was actually pretty darn good. Cheers

  • On drag race 1. You didn't have a burnout. Your second gear shift was horrible when the front end of the car dips in like that it's cuz you didn't depress the clutch fully and release smoothly as you were getting on the gas. You dumped the clutch and that's what caused the front end to dip and your tires to lose grip. And that's how you lost valuable time on that first run. You need to practice your release of the clutch or just get an automatic. At 7:21 I'm not being mean. Please don't take it as such. I'm just trying to give you some good advice and I hope you're able to accept the criticism

  • The Getrag MT-82 6 speed gearing isn't ideal actually the 2015 - 2017 version was much better geared... also the shifting was kind of bad... imo if you aren't getting the Dark Horse which has the Tremec TR-3160 6 speed you are much better off getting the 10R80 automatic in the 2024 Mustang GT.

  • Sam, for a pretty decent car drag racing channel, you need to work on the numbers. Sounds like you’re just guessing the weight of both cars (“3,700-3,800 lbs for the Mustang,” it’s 3,827 so your second number was pretty close, “3,300-3,400 lbs for the Z,” it’s actually 3,486 so you were off by almost a 100. Not a huge deal, but just look up the actual stats on the Manufacturers’ websites, it’s pretty easy. And I’m surprised no one said anything about the Z performing noticeably worse in the second and third drag races. Maybe the engine was getting hot and it reduced the power. I mean just look how it was right next to the Mustang in the first drag race, and how far it fell back in race 2 and 3. You should also bring back the stats on the screen, right next to each other, so we can easily compare the cars. Keep up the good work!
