Drumming ruffed grouse entering from stage right

This ruffed grouse almost looked like he'd rehearsed for this by the way he entered from stage right and took his position directly in front of the camera. I noticed that he likes to hang his claws over the front broken edge of the rock for better support, which made his final position very predictable. Taken near Frederic, Wisconsin.

  • I once saw a male ruffed grouse following a female around do his display in the spring of this year. I never heard him drum but I knew he had a female to try to impress.
