  • Every time I've seen a harpy eagle it's been standing on solid ground instead of perching like you would expect a bird of prey to do, and for some reason seeing them from that perspective makes them seem ENORMOUS. Like, they are enormous but having them be enormous at your level is much more visceral somehow.

  • I just discovered this channel. It's both informative and hilarious at the same time. I love the analogies and nicknames. It's also a refreshing counterpoint to the delusional social media anthropomorphization of wildlife. No, wildlife is NOT benign, cute, gentle, or "can show humans what love & harmony is." Nature is brutal, messy, violent, and ill-mannered.

    • @Flightless Lord I made my comment because there's a tendency on social media to post videos and have cute music in the background saying how sweet all these animals are and then people go out in the wild and think they're going to take a selfie with a bison, play with bear cubs, or get a close up with an alligator and end up maimed or killed. I live out in the middle of the woods in a rural area by the Olympic mountains, backed by 3500 acres of state forest land with bear, coyote, mountain lions, bobcats, fox, raptors... surrounded by wildlife & nature in it's primitive form. There's life-and-death struggle everywhere, 24/7. I've seen some pretty brutal, violent things. I've also seen tender, funny, amazing, and courageous animal behavior. Have calm, "gentle" deer in my yard every day who let me get within a couple of feet of them, but if they were pushed to it, they could kick your skull in with their pointy little toes and wouldn't think twice about it. 😵‍💫🦌

  • After almost 27 years on earth, I didn't know that barred owls could laugh, until about six months back. Out for a 2am smoke, and with no build up or other hooting, I hear one single laughing noise. It must've been on the roof of the building, or on a tree right above me, bc it sounded insanely close, almost as if it was right in my ear. Seriously, look it up if you haven't heard it. It was just so unnatural and out of place in the silence. • That point at 8:27, where he says "if you know, you know..." For those of us who don't, he's referring to a event that happened in the early 2000s, where a man spent (I believe) eight years in jail for the murder of his wife. The stairwell pictured is where her body was found. The wounds were found to have Micro feathers in them, a feature common to owls legs. It was later posited by several doctors that the woman was in fact struck in the head from behind by an owl. If you've ever seen the talons on a great horned owl, you'll know why she didn't survive. This is the most well-known example of owls attacking people, but there are other instances recorded, mostly because those people inadvertently strayed too close to their nesting sites. Owls are exceedingly territorial, and will take it personally if you get what they consider to be "too close".

That noise they make is to scare prey unto running, in this case it would hop on the field's fence and scream and they'd open fire on the explosion of crows making a run for it.
