In a clash between two submission wizards, former ONE Lightweight World Champion Shinya Aoki defeated former featherweight kingpin Marat Gafurov in a grappling super-fight at ONE: KINGS OF COURAGE. The matchup was an intense back-and-forth encounter for both warriors, but “Tobikan Judan” secured the Russian’s back late into the bout and sunk in a rear-naked choke for the submission victory!

  • Love that Catch wrestling Single leg ride Shinya Aoki used in the end to control Gafurov's hips to be able to secure that Rear strangle. His Shoot wrestling background really shines through.

    • its not a single leg ride,that would be done from top position only.

  • Shinya's game plan was genius! He desisted from attempting submissions/offensive position seeking until the last 3 minutes. This way, Gafurov spent most of the time working for positions and attempting submissions, only to be tired at the end when Shinya finally switched from defense to offense.

  • Just saw the fight during which this guy breaks his opponent's arm ON PURPOSE, then goes on to flip the finger at him, lapping around the ring, flipping his finger at everyone and mocking his opponent who's down on the floor in agony... I'm not a specialist...I just watch a fight once in while, but... How was this guy not thrown out of the MMA circuit?

    @hithere_1967@hithere_19673 жыл бұрын
    • His opponent did not want to tap... and He should have because he was stuck, couldn't escape and had no other option but to tap. He thought Aoki was gonna release him, but the rules are the rules. The 1st time I saw that incident I shared your opinion, I found that victory gross. But Aoki explained that he was super pissed off at his opponent for not tapping out, saying that he had too much of an ego. Which honestly explains his post-match freakout. MMA is a tough sport mentally. I understand why Aoki would go bersek in a stressful situation like this.

    • @@cyberpunkgrappling6447 Hey, Nathan! Thanks for the comment! Very constructive and I got some info I didn't know about! I do see your point of view...but, I must ask myself: ""In this case, then the only option the other fighter has is to break his opponent's arm?" That's a tough decision to make. It's like that fight between Victor Belfort and Jon Jones years ago... Victor had him in an armlock and pulled it so far back that I'm sure it must have been very painful to this opponent. But Jon Jones had this "go ahead...keep going...I'm not going to tap" attitude. Had Victor pulled Jones' arm more, it would have broken - so, he let go off it.

    • I think Shinya matured he’s been humble in his last few fighys. See Aoki vs Lee, there’s a debate that aoki let go Lee’s arm so as not to break it.

      @marvinsanluis7410@marvinsanluis74102 жыл бұрын
    • @@hithere_1967 Then he should have broken Jones's arm. It's really that simple. How can you call this a fighting sport if you are supposed to give up if your opponent doesn't tap? That makes no sense when you take a little time to think it through.

  • Don't really get the point of this, it doesn't really mean anything in terms of mma, doesn't mean a whole lot in terms of bjj/submission grappling either since they're both focused on training mma nowadays so they're not at their best at pure grappling
